Typing this on the day of the first debate, when Trump has closed the gap with Clinton to just a few points in several important swing states. We'll see tonight what happens next.
Brian, I am a so-called inside-the-beltway Republican, somewhat like you, but not too much. Just like my good friend who hosted the party "wake" in the Capitol Hill Irish Pub during the Dem convention. Didn't see you there.
But here is how we differ. The two of you cannot seem to get past the fact that Republicans, real Republicans, voting Republicans, hard-working party-loyal Republicans from all over the Country chose Donald Trump as our candidate for President. His "Make America Great Again" theme resonates with many voters of all political persuasions.
Sure, Trump's nomination was a rebuke to the superbly qualified candidates of long Republican heritage. Beginning with my personal favorite, Scott Walker, who I suspect you might detest as much as Ted Cruz, though for different reasons.
But please come to terms with the big picture now, though it may already be too late.
You know damn well that a Hillary Clinton administration will be far more Democrat, Liberal, and anti-Conservative than a Trump administration.
Do you really want to spite Republicanism, Conservatism, Americanism, and so many other values and beliefs just because our favorite insiders lost?
Do you really want Donald Trump to "prove" himself to Republican elitists to gain their support, unlike any other Republican presidential candidate in recent times? Or is that just one of many lame excuses?
Is there a real reason that professional Republicans like you are scared of Donald Trump? Could it be that you fear you won't be invited to participate in a Trump administration?
Or is it just sour grapes? You didn't get your way so you are going to sulk and hand over more political power to Democrats? Then you will blame Trump instead of yourself for not supporting our party's candidate?
The same way the Republican establishment pulled support from Ken Cuccinelli - who could have won Virginia?
That, my friend, would be pathetic.
