New Alexandria red-light camera to issue tickets this week
WASHINGTON — Drivers in Alexandria should be aware of a new red-light camera that will start issuing tickets Friday.
Alexandria police began using a new red-light camera on Aug. 22 at the intersection of Duke Street and West Taylor Run Parkway. The warning period for the new camera ends Sept. 22, and fines will be issued for all citations starting Friday, Sept. 23.
The fine will be $50, said Alexandria Police Department spokeswoman Crystal Nosal.
The location for the camera, which will be administered by Redflex Traffic Systems, was determined through traffic studies, Nosal said.
The camera is part of the city’s five-year-old Red Light Photo Safety Program, which includes five other cameras that operate 24 hours a day to capture images of every vehicle running the red lights at those intersections.
Alexandria police will review and approve each violation before they are sent to drivers.
Old FFXU readers may remember about 10 years ago when a dumbshit on the Alexandria City council blurted out that that camera was fake. Lolz.
