On Thursday, Donald Trump made the claim that Ford was going to cut all U.S. jobs and move its operations to Mexico, and as a result he would charge them a large tax for doing so.

"They think they're going to get away with this and they fire all their employees in the United States and...move to Mexico," said Trump. "When that car comes back across the border into our country that now comes in free, we're gonna charge them a 35% tax. And you know what's gonna happen, they're never going to leave."

The Ford corporation's CEO, Mike Fields, wasn't taking that lying down, and appeared on CNN to correct the record.

Small car production is moving to Mexico and the plants, were told, are going to be retooled to support the plants. The workers at the US plants will now be support and not build the cars.

How come Ford does not keep small car production here and build new support plants in the US and create good paying jobs?

You don't think that the auto industry will move in a year or two do you? Ford had 77,000 jobs in Detroit Michigan in 1990. They now have 34,000. GM had 73,000. They now have 31,000. The number of employees dropped about 1300 job's per year on average. That's 1.7% per year on average.  Total in 25 years, over 42%. And now Ford is not only sending 2800 jobs to Mexico, twice that yearly average in one action, but has stated that all small car production will be done there. So no, Ford may not be sending all it's job's out of the country today, or even tomorrow for that matter. My point, not to be misconstrued as a disingenuous drug addict, is this. What will Ford look like in relation to domestic employment in 25 years? Or am I being to dim for you to understand?

Around 25 years ago, I learned to stop equating how money someone made with 1) how smart they might be, 2) their skill at anything else and 3) whether or not they are an excellent businessman.

I saw people making tons of money that were dumber than f***, were no good at anything else, and were lousy businessmen (except if your only criteria for being a good businessman was making lots of money-by all other measures, they sucked-people hated them, they had several lawsuits against them, nobody that worked "with them" made any money", they were dumb as sh**, etc).

If your rejoinder is, well they must have been a good businessman, because they made lots of money, you are wrong. You can make lots of money and have no people skills, no analytical skills, etc.

What you are good at is never, ever, believing you are wrong, and having no fear, and, an ability to convince people they are going to LOSE if they don't deal with you. you might be good looking or have a personality that people don't forget. And, success early on, can snowballs. But not because of any skill that translates into being a good businessman. And certainly not any skill that equates to being a good leader, with a good handle on what is going on around the world.
