Find a Denny's for a hot skillet dish. Einstein Bagels breakfast, or a McDonalds bagel meal.

These places start me through the crappy day I have been handed. These are my favorite paces to get me going on my worthless days.

Hit the Gym (or at least grab some cheap weights), you probably gained weight too. Lifting will also help with your stress and tire you out so you sleep better. Plus you will look better for the new lady friend ;) Lift your way through winter while all the others are packing on pounds and once spring comes back again, you will already be cut up and ready to rock while other people are just getting started. Drink at least a half gallon of WATER a day, cut out the sodas and sweets as much as possible. Sugar=bad. Fat (on your meat)=ok.

Shop at Aldi's like the first response said. Or if you have to go to wegmans, eat more veggies and meat and less processed crap. Shop on the outer edges of the store where the healthy stuff is.

Get a cheap car off Craigslist if you don't have one- look for a honda or toyota or even newer model hyundais are ok (fuck kias though!), easy to find a running one for $2500 or so if you are willing to take time to take a mechanic with you. DO NOT go to easterns or any of those shady dealers, actually don't even bother with a car loan right now. Can we say auto loan bubble? Just wait, a flood of cars people can't afford will be on the used car market soon....


Snow is fun if you have a snowboard/skis/a snowmobile/a nice ATV to ride in it!!! Enjoy the silence after the first snowfall it is glorious. Then come in and have some hot chocolate or hot apple cider with liquor in it like a grown man should ;)

I'm a second generation Arlington native. Two of my kid's, now on their own, have chosen to not live here. The one in Charlottesville has easy commutes compared to here, and pays half the rent. The people are not up tight, and after growing up in Arlington, he prefers it there. Another son is in Chantilly and works in Reston. Reasonable commute, nice neighbours. The other two live inside the beltway. They struggle with high rent, and the people are a bit more high strung. The higher living expenses and the stress of commuting definitely contribute to attitudes living here. If I was starting out again I would give serious thought to smaller area's. But being young, the excitement of a metropolitan area is alluring. Pick your poison. Enjoy the positives, marginalize the negatives, life's too short.

People who can only whine about traffic, snooty people, and the high cost of living around here are simply lost causes. Give up. There is nothing for you here. Or in any other reasonably populated and civilized setting. You would feel beleaguered and out of place in ALL of them. The problem is actually YOU, not any of these places.

Absolutely right. These people would be fish out of water in any metro area at all. I have no idea why they actually come to or stay in such areas to begin with.

The damn real estate taxes keep going up because the county cannot get their act together, particularly with spending on FCPS. If you own a home, expect your taxes to continue to rise until we get some competent leaders.

Also, what sucks is the Fairfax County DOT .. they've screwed up Braddock Road so bad with the left lane merge just inside 495, that traffic is literally DANGEROUS on the inner loop off ramp onto Braddock. During evening rush, traffic is at a stand still and at times BEFORE the exit lane begins! I wonder how many acdidents there have been since the Fairfax Geniuses screwed up Braddock Road. People driving at highway speed come around the bend only to see brakes lights and a line of cars at a dead stand still. WTF?

Another plus in the metro area is the tremendous selection of Escorts and bodyrubs on Backpage. Some live here year-round and the others visit the area frequently.Some times you can get two nuts in an hour and and after you're done be having a nice meal and a drink at your favorite watering hole in peace. Great bang for the buck.

Finally, the main way to feel good is to help someone else who is in a lesser/poorer position than you. It's as simple as lending a pen. (In my case, it includes putting up numerous people in temporary need of housing; damn, that's gratifying to help them.)
