As some of you may know, a couple FCPS pyramids (I'm not sure how many) are recieving computers to give to every student. This irritates me for several reasons, the primary one being I am an angsty teen who wants to "bring down the man."

I've written a tutorial that uses some well known exploits to grant administrator access to these computers. The hack is simple, and can be accomplished by anyone.

Spread this around as much as possible.

It's written in layman's terms so anyone can follow it.

Yes, this will work for every machine, but you will have to repeat the process for every machine on which you want to gain admin rights. This particular tutorial will also only work on these intel probooks. Once again, other computers will be similar, but not the same.

Step 1: Grab your computer

Step 2: Power it off all the way. Not sleep, all the way.

Step 3: Wait for the operating system to start booting (you may have to try this a couple of times). When the OS starts booting, meaning when you see a blue screen with a white spinny thing and text below it that says "please wait," press and hold the power button until the computer turns off again.

Step 4: Turn the computer on again. You may have to repeat steps seven and eight several times. The timing is sometimes difficult.

Step 5: If you were successful, you will see a black screen with a blue windows logo towards the upper middle and a white spinny thing with white text saying "please wait" below the windows logo. Wait until it changes to a screen that says "Recovery"

Step 6: Below the word "Recovery" will be the sentence "it looks like windows didn't load correctly." This is normal. Do not worry. You should see two buttons, one labeled "See advanced repair options," and one labeled "Restart my PC." Click "See advanced repair options"

Step 7: Click "Turn off your PC"

Step 8: Turn on the computer again and repeat step 4 until you see a screen that says "preparing automatic repair" or "diagnosing your PC" The computer may shut down. Keep repeating this step until you get to a blue screen that says "Automatic Repair" and has two buttons labeled Restart and Advanced options.

Step 9: Click advanced options

Step 10: Click troubleshoot

Stel 11: click advanced options

Step 12: Click system image recovery. Your computer should say "Windows cannot find a syste image on this computer" Cancel out of this window. If there is a system image, switch the checkbox to "Select a system image" and click next.

Step 13: Click "advanced" in the bottom left

Step 14: Click "Install a driver" and then "ok"

Step 15: Click "This PC" on the left, then the windows folder, and then system32. It will look like you are already in system32, but it's a different folder. Trust me on this.

Step 16: Find cmd.exe and create a copy. This is the hardest step, along with the next two.

Step 17: Find sethc.exe and rename it sethc1.exe

Step 18: Find the copy of cmd.exe you made and rename it sethc.exe.

Step 19: Turn the computer off.

Step 20: Boot into windows.

Step 21: Before signing in, press shift five times. You have just opened an elevated command prompt window. Good job :)

Step 22: Type "control userpasswords2" into the command prompt.

Step 23: Click add

Step 24: Click sign in without a microsoft account (should be towards the bottom)

Step 25: Follow the prompts to create a new account.

Step 26: Click on the new account and click properties.

Step 27: Click on the group membership tab and set the group to administrators. Mission complete. You can also do this to your account, but that could make it obvious that someone has been tampering with the computer. Creating a new account is fairly hard to find, and even harder to pin on you.

Step 28: Log in to the new admin account and go to town. Have fun. Good luck.

Parents, show this to your kids. The computers are a huge waste of money. There total pieces of crap, and judging by this tutorial, the security is crap. WTF FCPS?

This is really stupid. You're going to get caught and expelled, and you deserve it. Asshole.

The only way to fix fcps is to completely tear it apart and rebuild it. Get rid of all board members, fire all administrators and fire or force older staff into retirement. We need to totally cleanse fcps.

There's some potential here. It's not just kids who want to see fcps get their just desserts.

There's also easier ways to get system on winblows.

OK, what are the legal implications for both the students and the parents? Somebody post an intelligent discussion. They are obviously enormous.

You'd think with computer literacy what it is and the amount of money FCPS has to throw around, they'd do a better job of computer security, but no.

I'm sure they'll be scheduling a management retreat at Sedona to discuss this, and then they'll hire some self proclaimed expert to try to fix the problem.

How many meals would have to be bought to pay for this bit of ineptitude? Just another reason to vote NO on the meals tax and make FCPS act, and spend, responsibly.

To be fair, Windows can't be secured. There just isn't any way.

Of course there are easier ways to break through the security, but this method requires no outside software, and is very difficult to detect. Admins would have to know what they are looking for, which is a somewhat dubious assumption to make.

The legal implications are huge, but they only come into effect if the hackers get caught. Detecting a new admin account that is only on one computer is fairly difficult from a network administration standpoint. What the new account is used to do is going to be the more obvious and therefore more punishable set of actions.

Test scores are stored in the cloud; you can't get at them even with domain access.

As for creating a GUI, why? Most of this tutorial is done graphically, and the parts that aren't are super simple. You just have to follow the instructions.

NO computer can be secured if you have physical access to it, smart guy. Excepting biometrics which is an area I don't know about. This hack fails in a network environment because MAC address. Yes, you can spoof that, but then you need to know someone else's or use one that isn't on the approved roster.

Windows could be more secure as far as the filesystem. Recently, Microsoft started requiring signing for kernel modules. It's hard to forge since they do the signing and hold the private keys. They could do the same for the filesystem binaries and protect against this rename attack.

Still you should have a basic just wipe it and reinstall it policy when these laptops are returned.

I'd be interested in watching for a while to see what they're up to.Wasn't there a case in PA where to school administrators turned cameras on in kids bedrooms while they were dressing?

I've never seen a hard drive secured to a laptop with anything other than a philips head screw. They're all threaded the same and you can buy a lifetime supply of replacements on ebay for about five dollars.

It's rare to see security torx on equipment but you can still buy those bits online. Sometimes you need to turn them a bit on a lathe to extend the neck due to the deeply recessed pockets. I suppose a dremel grinder would work too but the result is ugly.

Yeah, I didn't do that. We had ionic smoke detectors and a dry sprinkler system. You set that off and the system precharges and you get a visit from the local FD.

OP checking in here. Some people are wondering what local admin access is for. I had never really intended for this to become some "electronic jihad," hence why I didn't give instructions for getting domain access.

There's a shitload of monitoring software on the computers (which I despise), and so I wanted students to be able to get rid of that, as well as having the ability to install games; currently students are extremely restricted in what they are able to do.

If someone really wants to turn this into a rebellion movement, that's fine by me, I'll stand back and watch the carnage.

Someone mentioned Torx screws, and they are correct, the whole computer is a bitch to take apart.

Anyway, go to town or whatever, but don't drag me into a rebellion movement.

Normal (robust) antivirus ought to log system events and something like a Snare agent would actually catch your privilege escalation/local account addition and report it back to the log collector. Now whether FCPS is shelling out for a full-service SIEM and/or any sort of MSS, is another question.

I know they're using software called securly, which is cloud based, but I haven't done enough sniffing around to find anything else. I'm fairly confident they've don't have anything looking for privilege escalation.

HP Probook 11 G2; Celeron processor, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD.

Here's another question: these things sell online for roughly $850, but the school only charges $355 for a lost one. How do they expect these things to not get sold?

Why not just boot off a Unix Live CD once and create your account? It only takes 2 minutes.

Ok, that makes a little bit more sense now. Do you think they're going as far as to monitor for keywords like anything about transgendered students / bullying? Not sure if that's what they're monitoring for, but if that's it then I'd say by all means disable their shit. If it cloud-based unplug the Ethernet cable, back in, and disable the securely services from starting at boot. Again, for this movement you'll want admin creds. Even if an admin logs in locally, at some point they will need to authenticate using their domain creds, so you can capture that with a good keylogger. You can also just plug one in in-line which would be easier and the security software probably won't pick that up. Godspeed.

If you want to be a real hero like Assange find a way to plug one of these bad boys into one of the school admin's PCs.

The bottom line is don't use a computer loaned to you by someone else to post to or read social media.

I guess it time school students grow up and join the adult world. My job provides me a computer and network. Because my job is valuable I use those for work. It's just like work hours. I use those for work.

I provide my own network and computer for play, especially if I expect my activities to be private. Even then you aren't very safe, but if someone else owns the hardware you have no expectation of privacy at all. We all live in a surveillance state, and public schools are among the worst offenders.

If school gives you a computer, use it for school work, then turn it off. Try to leave it at school if you can.

As I said above, physical access trumps security every trip of the train. The smart thing to do would be to password protect the BIOS so the user can't change the boot order.

Regardless of how you go about subverting these programs, you have to tb right 100% of the time. The school can have technology IQ's in the low 50's, but they only have to get lucky once and they have you.

FCPS may be stupid enough to give a kid a computer without bitlocker turned on, but I doubt it. So that kind of screws up from using a livecd if you need access to the file system.

By the way, assuming you can open your laptop, it's usually easy to bypass the ROM BIOS password.

O my God i still can believe the world still have legit hackers like this out there. i came across Sabina Roman’s post on a blog where she talked about a hacker whom helped her out with a bank hack so I contacted him to see if its truth because of my experience with some hackers that I had to stop looking for a hacker until I saw the post and I decided to try for the last time. its actually impossible to put in words how much of a Genius he is and also can't stop thanking him for helping me through my divorce case because I needed to hack into my husband’s telephone to get some proof before going for the bank hacking .Jonny Belter is a Black-hat hacker and very capable of any type of hack in the hacking world as they call it.
