How are schools different today compared to 1993

Let's say you have a 5th grader going to school here in Fairfax now in 2016.
How are they different compared to say 1993?

Trailers outside from overcrowded classrooms?

Can't wait to hear the answers.

Mostly the illegals were inside the beltway and out in PWC. They're still inside the beltway but PWC made their lives uncomfortable so they drive their kids to FCPS, drop them off at SACC on their way to mowing lawns and cleaning houses and pick them up from SACC after they're done and head home to PWC. In the 1990s' most FCPS schools didn't see this.

I think by 1993 the anti American liberal agenda was really taking a toll on education.

They have eliminated any source of pride in America.

1993 was a very bad year for America.

it was considered somewhat shameful to be labeled as needing "special education" and programs designated for "special needs" made up a very small percentage of the schools total budget. Today these programs constitute almost 25% of total spending and are increasing at 6% year on year while real funding of programs for general students has fallen by 5% in real terms since 2009. On average FCPS spends twice as much on a "special needs" student as on a general student - and more and more of the rich residents are seeking this status for their children.

But your choice of year 1993 indicates that you are aware of the Cole Commission's work; a panel of respected community leaders who suggested that the County's growth and prosperity were dependent on careful restraints on spending - limiting the growth of spending to a maximum of the inflation rate plus the population growth rate.

I have not looked back to 1993 but from FY09 to FY17 total County Revenue All Funds increased by 12.7% in real terms (adj for inflation) while total County population increased by less than 7%.

We are spending beyond our means and our spending priorities are incompatible with future growth.

It's all about the "changed for the worse" demographics in this Fairfax area.
All the illegals getting FREE STUFF at the Tax payer's expense.

Vote 100% NO on the meals tax. You illegals can stop at 7-11 before dropping your little tykes off at school and get them some Tacos or an Egg roll or even some samosas.

Relax. Special needs are ok and they can "get attention."

You missed the point here. It's about all the illegals coming into FF schools like the chinks, dot heads, Hispanics, and midEastern dirt bags.
Special needs are ok.

Vote NO. I don't want my tax money going to these non-english speaking scum.

You heard the sentiments, but not the words. In the 1990s we had helicopter parents insisting that their kids be given special treatment. Back then it was just because.... As schools got better at saying "no", those parents started looking for legal ways of forcing the schools to do it.

FCPS graduates knew math and english skills in 1993 - in 2014 only 71% can pass the SOLs... but all we need is MORE MONEY!!

now stfu and pay up - D.C. spends more per student than FCPS and look how good they do - we can do that good too... aarggghh

We had smoking courts in 5th grade back in '93. Some of us owned cars.

Yep. So cut their funding and put the squeeze on the illegals. Get them out and sure up the budget. Make things right again, and stop trying to kill off the white population which is vital to success.
