How Much More Do Teachers Earn at Private Schools

Local ES just lost one of its best teachers to The Congressional School in Falls Church. 25k annual tuition there. Wonder how much more a teacher makes moving to a place like that?

Private schools pay much less and ha e much worse benefits than public schools. Most teachers work at private schools because they are not certified, they couldn't get a job at a public school, are super deliver they have kids that they want to attend private school. Most private schools give reduced or free tuition for children of staff.

Maybe the teacher actually wants to teach in an environment that is about education and not an SOL?

Public education is a joke, invest now or pay later.

Most teachers in the public schools are overpaid babysitters that can't handle the real world.

True, in most cases. And yet, we have no problem recruiting and retaining quality teachers.

Not true. We have teachers who retired from public school - very few as we are much more selective, and younger teachers who proved to be excellent at public schools but wanted to escape the administrative BS and worthless dictated lesson plans.

I have no idea what that means

A huge benefit that helps compensate for the reduced salary.

I should also mention that our teachers often arrive at 6 am to meet with motivated students who arrive that early, and are here - voluntarily - at night.

The teacher that moved to The Congressional School was recognized as outstanding in FCPS in the field of the Arts so she didnt have to deal with SOL's - she doesnt have kids and she is young so Im trying to figure out why she would switch if, as is said here, the compensation is lower.

Maybe it's just none of your goddamn business.

Teachers are the ones putting public disclosure of pay fair game. You use your pay as leverage to get a new tax passed for your benefit. Salaries are now our business. You can't have it both ways.

The initial question was about private school pay. That is none of your goddamn business. The second item is about trying to figure out why she would switch. That is also none of your goddamn business. Public school teacher pay scales have always been open to everyone. Stick to the topics. You just failed your first essay test.

The pay in general is lower at private schools and so is the accountability. And if your kid needs any sort of special services, your choice is likely to be quite clear.

Teachers are paid plenty of money in Fairfax County.

A teacher making $75,000 a year in the county is the equivalent of a private sector job with pay of $111k.

Do the math....

Teachers work 1,316 hours a year!

Enough is enough with teachers pay. If the teachers are so fucking good why are the kids so dumb!

Spend as much time with your brats as I do. You will double my salary. Private school teachers can converse with their little angels in English and go home daily with a warm glow in their hearts.

Lots more than you, I'm guessing. Sucks to be a douche in a meritocracy, doesn't it.

I would hang myself if I made either of those amounts in a year.

Most teachers are overpaid sitters.

For the record, my 4 angels attend private school because I would rather deal with other parents of privilege then deal with entitled county teachers that cry about pay all the time.
