FCPS hides FLE opt out forms on new website
Date: August 27, 2016 12:53PM

A few days ago, notices went out with links to opt out of the new FLE program. FCPS has moved all the opt out forms, and has made them very difficult to find on the new website.

- No forwarding link
- Google search can't find them
- Drilling through menus to find them? Good luck with that, I couldn't.

I have been able to locate them. Is this intentional to combat parental objection to the new curriculum, and objection to the political agenda they put in it? Probably.

The FLE materials this year are highly objectionable, from using LGBT language which is not used by the scientific community to discuss the topics to a very objectionable lesson on the discrimination policy where they read kids a statement removing religion and national origin, and inserting gender ID and sexual orientation instead.

Here are the new links, I highly recommend opting out of the entire year, or read the lessons and decide what your child needs to hear and only opt into those lessons. Or better yet, look at the materials and teach these to your child personally from your family's values.

Elementary grade K-6 Opt-Out forms (towards bottom of linked page)
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle

Middle School grade 7-8 Opt-Out forms
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle-school-academics-7-8/family-life-education-fle

High School grade 9-12 Opt-Out forms
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/high-school-academics-9-12/family-life-education-fle

"Discrimination: treating of some people differently than others without any clear reason; treating people unfairly based on a category, such as age, race, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identification"

Note the addition of "sexual orientation" and "gender identification", as well as the omission of "religion" and "national origin". There is a long list of problems I have with the materials. The FLE content is full of bias like this which I find very biased by the creators of the curriculum.

Remember to check every lesson you are opting out of. This must be turned in with all the other forms at the start of the school year. It is unfortunate they decided to HIDE these, and break our links to them, when parents are now looking for them.

Only morons opt out of FLE. The ones whose lives are driven by the vulgarities of outdated myth and superstition.

@Let the kids learn, "Nut job helicopter parent alert"

Too many parents zone out of their parental involvement with kids. The materials are important, and better served coming from a parent than a politically motivated school board.

Have you looked at and read the lessons?

Every parent should know what they are teaching our kids in the FLE program, and every parent who finds objection with the materials should take advantage and opt-out.

I find it very offensive, being a multiracial/cultural family, that they would remove "national origin" when addressing discrimination. This just scratches the surface.

If they ran the state FLE program, my child would be in every lesson. The custom, politically driven FCPS one which was not reviewed was put up at the last minute with no chance for corrections or changes. Quite intentionally by this school board who doesn't want to deal with parental involvement.

They have been operating with the mindset of doing whatever they want, without any concern for parents, or student diversity for too long. The state program takes great care to teach topics to help the students without being offensive. FCPS board (at least the 9 of them) doesn't take any effort to do this like the state does.

Probably Flip Flippen, Eric Jensen, and Tara Brach wrote the latest FLE materials. What a waste! That money could ahve gone to building more turf fields.

The good fight is one against the stupidity of wanton assholes such as yourself, Frankie-boy. The causes of abject idiots are never something that rational people should take up. The County needs more revenue and more diverse sources of it. Only blockhead dumbfucks stand against the meals tax. Which of course explains your position perfectly. Fucking asshole.

One of the things I value about Fairfax County are the diverse number of restaurants available.

A 10% tax means they will locate elsewhere, or the reduction of those able to eat out will mean those struggling to survive will fail.

I typically tip 20% to the wait staff, so now this means every meal will be 30% over the actual meal cost.

Certainly the wait staff will suffer, as people reduce tips to make the meal more affordable. Making for less attentive staff and service.

The meals tax is entirely for meeting the FCPS budget shortfall. A shortfall they are not making up with by paying for a new website, logo, nifty slogans, an FLE program rewrite which didn't need to be done. Just take the state program, most would agree with the content and it would benefit every student, rather than so many parents opting their kids out now.

If the board cannot be responsible with the budget, and what they have, why should we trade larger class sizes for a new website and objectionable FLE changes? Ridiculous!

What you have said is convincing, convincing me to vote “NO” on meals tax. Too many empty words in your rant for me to agree.
