higher minimum wage = restaurant job losses

In DC, higher restaurant wages have resulted in job losses. A meals tax in Fairfax would have the same effect.

Vote NO on the meals tax on November 8.

God, but you're one fucked up asshole. Restaurants are not charities. They ALREADY employ the fewest people they can while still getting the job done. If there were people on the payroll that could easily be laid off, they would already have been laid off. Meanwhile, running a restaurant means dealing with all sorts of cost changes. Taxes are just one of them and quite a small one at that. If a restaurant manager can't handle that sort of heat, he should get out of the businass and let someone more capable make the profits that he is unable to.

LOL! I'm a person who understands both taxes and how restaurants actually work. You are a worthless dumbfuck know-nothing moron. Congratulations.

In its present condition, the County needs both more revenue and more diverse sources of revenue. It is important therefore to pass the meals tax. Shove that up your worthless flabby babbling ass and let it stew for a while.

I'm sure you could tell us which restaurants you have operated and also present your credentials in taxation.

The truth of the matter is that you are deluded; you think FCPS can do no wrong. For all anyone knows, you are an FCPS employee or maybe even a school board member fuming over the possibility that your upward mobility has been halted.

In the meantime, hopefully you still have that "Wrecking Ball" video to amuse you.

They say the county needs more money-sounds like they support a tax increase. If they are not at least willing to pay more taxes, then they are hypocritical.

Sorry, no one in their right mind is voting for the meals tax.

Yes, indeed I could, And as I have years of hands-on experience at both, the information would make you look like the pathetic dumbass stooge that in fact you are. But only a complete idiot would post PII at FFXU, and unlike you, I am not any sort of idiot at all.

Such a childish babbling dribble-ass fool. The truth is merely that I understand the revenue situation that the County finds itself in, and I also know full well how restaurants function. You are far too much of a sick-ass little puppy to hold a candle to ANY of that.

More worthless crash-and-burn assholism from you, The facts here are that you know less than jack-shit about any of this. You are not equipped to discuss any of the topics at hand. You are just plain too fucking stupid for it. End of story.

Would anybody authorize these crooks to tax us more?

Restaurants across the board are against the increase because it's bad for business. Businesses do not pay taxes from their own pocket. They pass the cost of taxes along to the consumer.

These government asshats will never stop raising taxes. They will never survive with less money. They don't care if we have to survive with less of the money(that we earned)if they can have their tax increases.

Fucking democrats.

What percentage of extra income tax do you pay every year? 10%, 20% more? I mean if you're that idiotic and want more taxes then I'm sure you already voluntarily contribute more out of the kindness of your retarded heart.

These taxes should only apply to anybody that votes democrat because the sane people in America don't want any taxes at all.

The meals tax is just a setup for a major real estate tax increase. The Board of Supervisors know it won't pass and don't want it to pass.

The real money is in R E taxes, not a few pennies more tax on a Big Mac.

Well,,,,fuck it, I'm your huckleberry!

You're a Democrat elitist and it shows. You think (your words) that if one can't afford the extra money their an "asshole". I'm going the other direction. I think elitists like you that believe people are somehow flawed, because they make less than they do, are the assholes.

It's crass to brag about these things but in all honesty you don't know who I am or how much I earn. I promise you wouldn't want to bet next weeks paycheck on who's is greater. I'll give you a hint on this my credit card is black and this is disposable income for me.

My opposition to allowing the local tax increase has less to do with the few extra dollars I will be spending on the tax then the damage it will cause to local restaurants. It's clear you don't understand basic economics and have little logic to reason cause and effect. If it was good for business you wouldn't see most restrauants with professionally printed fliers against the increase they would show support for the increase.

How much tax is enough for this County? Spell out the max percentage we should pay in taxes. I earn my money. It's not yours and it doesn't belong to Fairfax. It's mine.

What most conservatives want is for our representatives to be good stewards of our tax base. They haven't been so that's why I oppose the increase. In Liberal minds govenrnment can never survive with less revenue so it is acceptable to raise taxes and force the tax paying citizens to survive with less.

You sir, are an asshole. Look in Webster to see your picture.

We live in a free market system. For the most part anyway. Raising the minimum wage will help bring one thing for sure. Inflation. Every other tier in the job market will at some point go up until $15 an hour is the new $7 an hour. Then goods, housing, transportation ect. will all follow. The problem is that inflation is a beast. Once it starts, it gets out of control as it destabilizes consumer confidence which is in fact what really drives the economy as much as anything else. It would be better to listen to economist yhen to politicians on this as it is a logical issue. Or, we could go back to the Carter years with 23% unemployment and 17.5% home mortgage rates. Then watch as all the money leaves the stick market for high interest at low risk, and then the market collapses and the cycle repeats. Fun fun fun. All so entry level jobs can pay low skilled workers more money to garner votes for political opportunist. We forget, and politicians reap the benefits of ignorance. Press on.

Restaurants paying $15.00/hour? Instead of a $6.50 hamburger, you will be paying 16.50 for it, or up to $20.00 with all the added fixings. If they can they will fire people that are the order takers and wait staff and install robotic ordering devices. There will be a cook in the back, an assistant and a money cashier at the cheap places. You will order by punching buttons like on an ATM. The fancy restaurants will already be under the restaurant exemption for salaries due to tips. Instead they will add the tip on the bill and it will be high enough to cover the $15.00/hour rule. In any case, YOU will be the one who pays this, not the restaurant owners who can raise taxes. Next thing it will be forced on all types of clerical positions, and your rent will start going up exponientially, because YOU will be the ones to whom this is passed on.

Higher minimum wages cause employers to replace people with multi-cultural kiosks.

At least the kiosks speak understandable English, without the ghetto accents.

When a dish washer who makes 17000 K a year starts getting 33000 K a year. You had better have gotten a $16000 K raise yourself.. otherwise your income has just been diluted by the min wage 15 dollar a hour raise. You will have just lost 16 grand in real income buying power!

And where that's going to hit hardest is with the elderly who are on min social Security 15-20 k a year and all low income people as Rents and home prices will skyrocket to take mucho of the extra 16K the min wage people would get. Everyone Loses!

And yes many jobs will be lost.. What a totally useless Idea from Democrats ..Only designed to divide the people between the stupid who think it can happen.. and the smart who know it cant. To keep the Stupid voting for Democrats and not for the Smart Meanies of the GOP who wont let it happen cause it would be a disaster!

Min Wages must rise with the normal flow of the economy, and BY Rights it should be regional not Nationwide.

With all the 'Wonderful" 401 K's and IRA's that were supposed to have a million dollars in it by the time they are 62..The reality is that many Yuppies have NO Pensions.. And only about 100 k in a IRA or 401 K. And these Liberals will be the ones getting bashed by any 15 dollar Min wage they endorse today..as they will be getting a lousy 20 k in SS and that's it. In Fairfax ..They can keep their house with property tax relief after age 65 with certain amounts of cash , stocks, bonds allowed and you will know who they are.. The ones with the houses with the ruined leaking roofs, the old cars, the grass and weeds grown up.

They made good money bouncing from job to job..in their time and they spent it too, with not much for retirement which can come too quick. Of Course Fed Yuppies, Teachers.. others with a good pension. Like me..! Are Doing Very Well..Thank You! But we did stay in a job 25-40 years to get it. And were not the job bouncers.

Start deporting the illegals (maybe they will take their kids with them) before increasing the taxes on homeowners (which will come after the meals tax fails to pass). In the meantime, start with a renters tax and enforce the housing codes in regard to overcrowding.

And places are doing just that now WaWa and Sheetz gas stations come to mind.

A 15 dollar min wage will hurt.. Not help the working poor.

We pay now through our taxes for the mimiumn wage folk
They get food stamps, tax credits, use emergency room as their doc, etc..

Basically we are subsidizing the businesses with our tax dollars

Same when companies that hire illegals, business make money while tax payers make up the diffrence

I propose a change in the way we pay taxes.

No taxes of any type to be automatically taken from our paychecks.

On a quarterly basis you must write multiple checks to cover your fair share.

One for social security, one for federal, one for state, one for local, another for FCPS, ect.

Let's see how long this shit lasts then.
