Bootlegging cigarettes is big business. Purchase a carton of cigarettes for $45.00 here in Virginia, and carry them up to New York where the same smokes go for $100.00 a carton.

Re-sell the cigarettes up north for $75.00 per carton. People buying them get a 25% discount off of the regular price, and the Bootlegger makes $30.00 per carton.

Bootleggers carry thousands of cartons per trip, and have customers waiting on the other end. Some drug dealers are doing this now because you can earn 100K CASH per trip, and if you get caught the jail time is less than 3 years.

Drug dogs are not sniffing around for Newports or Marlboro Reds.

It appears ciggie bootlegging is the problem of other jurisdictions. Yet, we have ID requirement?

Fuck it. Bootlegging is THEIR (read - non-Virginians') problem.

$60 in Virginia for "normal brands"

$45 i doubt even for 2nd rate brands (also might choke the person smoking them, depening how old they are - and bargain ones might be REALLY old)

cigarettes in NY cost the about the same as in VA

#1 fuck NY they and others sued VA and ran off with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS dispensed by democrat leaders in VA funneling money out of VA

#2 the price in NY is %70 taxes - so that $40/carton going to NY,NY

what do you think the pricing is magic or cigarette makers hate NY ? they probably reached $100/carton while Hillary was there

* there are jackass 7-11 selling old cigarettes way past the sale date (they rotate wrong, they never throw away the product when the manufacturer warns it's too old to sell)

* there are mexican pickers in VA who are SUING VA TOBACCO GROWERS (there's thanks for you), saying that "chick peas are more profitable". the fucking mexicans want to sue to own the farm. after they get it there is %100 chance mexico begins growing tobacco in VA

fuck you and your communist stories "quick smoking"

i am going to tell you get the hell off base, get the hell out of politics, go back to your axis country

telling smokers they have no right to hold a little farmed leaf in their hands

some of them need it medically, for nerves, there is no "healthier cure" medicine has. that's a medical fact. (ie, drinking is not a good substitute, neither are pain killers, etc). for instance, people who breathed pain fumes on the job and due to tuoline xilene etc have permanent nervous disorder: usually smokers for life, for a good reason, it is an easement

gasoline also cannot be shipped across state lines for sale

Congress divies up federal tax and does a little "re-distributing". Their mechanism for doing so are breached if their main taxed items are not protected by lines.

However - many argue there are other mechanism and the mechanism is simply a tool for non-competition between states.

On the other hand, high prices in one state equalized by "trade" could easily become what is called "a shell game", so while free trade is demanded by the Constitution, Sherman's law must be monitored

I ran into the same thing at the bank. I went in to deposit $500 in my kid's account, had the account information and they said they needed to see an ID. This is an account that might see $10,000 in total deposits a year. Money laundering rules shouldn't be an issue, but apparently some risk management expert decided the bank needed an overkill solution.
