Fairfax county maintenance worker taking county truck home to Front Royal?
Posted by: Tax revenue provider ()
Date: July 21, 2016 04:00PM

I have a weekend retreat cabin in West Va and have noticed a Fairfax county maintenance Ford F-250 being driven to exit 6 on I-66 every day at about 3:30pm.
I understand that some county employees need to take county vehicles home to respond to after hours emergencies but Front Royal?? That seems like a huge waste of money. I am going to try to get a picture of it next time I see it. Do many county employees get a benefit like that?

Change your title to 'Ticket revenue provider'.
I've informed the State Police of an idiot recklessly driving and taking photos with the times and locations you provided.

There is nothing unusual about civil servants taking county vehicles home, it is all part of the compensation package.

Its Being On The Gravy Train.. Now about those cops...taking cars and motorcycles home 50 miles away. Emergency Response???

I know a county employees, he takes his county truck to a fire station that's on the edge of the county, in his go home direction then takes his own car home. And he too is on call. And thats fine with me.

Get the plate and a description of the driver and contact your board of supervisors rep and ask them if the employee using this vehicle has permission to do so; my wager is no. Fairfax county taxpayers shouldn't be paying for fuel to his house in the boonies just because he/she chose not to live closer in.

As a maintenance worker, he's not likely paid enough to afford either living here or the fuel to commute here. In this case, I bet he probably knows something - rather than knows somebody - to get this perk. Good Lord, the man is devoting hours a day to get here, and if he's providing good service to our community, God bless him.

All those trucks have gps, management knows exactly where those vehicles are. There are a limited number of county employees that get this perk and as someone else posted these maintenance guys make 50 to 60k a year and simply cant afford to live in Fairfax.
George Mason has several state owned commuter vans that transport employees from Winchester, Front Royal and Luray on a daily basis for the very same reason.

Can we get them a more fuel efficient vehicle than a Ford F-250?

yes do that. but realize its' a drop in the water. these people pull every snake bend the soil will hold

there are billions missing (and a protection for illegals resulting in immense population change) only since democrats seized control of the area , about late 90's but esp. in 2000's

it's not one guy in a truck the whole highway is doing it

if i stand in near the courthouse (for a ticket) i see %98 hispanics and asians in all vehicles of every kind, and a church turned into a business selling child care to illegals (also: illegals working on the courthouse itself !!)

20 years ago (10 or 15), the picture was absolutely different - foreigners maybe %5, %10, depends on day

fx co gov democrats have taken it upon themselves to take any loan (infact some in fx co gov work for the loan houses making the loans) and sacrifice any future of a denizen to make way for a liberal voter however illegal the deeds done

no one is giving me a free car. i had to pay for it, and do significant engine work to keep it on the road without a "lift" - and pay shiloads to the county after that.

you think i'm taking crap from some democrat who's threatening me to think that if he's spending my money, getting a good part of my paycheck, i should forget it ?

think again.

let me tell you "that's none of my business" doesn't apply here that's parly my truck, IT IS MY BUSINESS

its' about the MONEY

If you take a county truck home it means you are on call for emergencies. If a water pipe busts in the jail at 2 am several of us have to respond, if a motor burns up at a Library and sets off the fire alarm several of us have to respond. We each take a week of on-call duty each month and it is rare that you make it through the whole week without at least one call.
We save the county millions of dollars each year by doing jobs that contractors would charge double or triple to do. Some trucks go to Winchester, Front Royal, Manassas and we are still saving the county taxpayers a bundle. When you see a county maintenance truck you should thank the guy behind the wheel for saving you a shitload of money.

Screw that! I am a teacher and I make less than $55,000 a year. Where the hell is my free vehicle with free gas and free maintenance? Pisses me off that maintenance workers make more than half the teachers do and get free transportation? Fuck that! I save the whole world by educating people!

How many times do you get up at 1 or 2 in the morning and come into work? Let the A/C go out in your Taj Mahal school and see how much bitching and complaining you do because they didn't come and fix it while you had your pretty little head on you beauty rest pillow.

Fucking whiner, you chose your profession. Go get a job that pays better or live within your means. Hell, become one of those maintenance guys.

Chances are you are one of the P/T teacher or new. Your salary in 20 years will eclipse theirs.

I see you guys sitting in your trucks all the time, parked behind the dumpster so the gps will report that the truck is at the school. You guys sit for hours playing games on your phones and tablets. You guys know where all the cameras are because you installed them. You guys are professional fuck-off artists.

The county does not have enough parking for us. It is a benifit to the taxpayers that we take our trucks home. I live in Stafford and have taken a county vehicle home since 2002.

Why are teachers always bitchen they don't make enough ? Its a joke, they make 40 grand and some a year when they first start so they point those ones out like that's the way all are, by the time they have 10 years in that's 100 k and the summer off plus generous retirement and bennies, why are teachers so goddammed jealous of everyone else, maybe they take bitchen lessons from the glorified janitors with a hose who are in the streets on county time sticking a smelly ass old boot in your face when they should act like the real heros that they are when SHTF , and man the stations instead of being union hacks.

What can really make hack teachers faces turn beet red is when they find out the blue collar maint man has bigger nicer house then theirs, and a real college degree as well. Not some liberal arts crap with a teaching certificate.

If the FCPS maintence workers are truly on call then I have no problem with them driving a FFX county F250 truck to and from work even if they live in bum fuck Romney, West Virginia. Is it wasteful? Sure a little bit. But it pales in comparison to the huge salaries, perks and benefits that Gatehouse employee's recieve in return for a minimal amount of work...

That employee is likely "on call" for emergency situations, and is required to drive a county vehicle home. One can only pray that your the asshole that gets fired.

Fairfax County maintenance workers are on call for approximately 7 to 8 days on a rotating schedule. They're subject to be called back in 24 hours a day 7 days a week. During the time they were on call they are afforded a vehicle to use. That is the only time they are allowed to use a vehicle to commute to and from work. So leave the four guys alone they're doing a good job.

I take my truck home every night, even when I'm not on call. It is just a benefit to help make up for the fact that I only get paid 80k a year.
