Embarrassing - empty Nationals "Delta" seats
Posted by: This looks pathetic ()

Yes, it's early into a noon game. But this is typical for even prime-time games. Corporations buy these tickets and give them to their employees/clients who generally don't care about the game or are fans of the opponent. It looks like hell on TV.

Sell these tickets for $50 to real fans who would love to go to the game and would be behind home plate cheering for the Nats instead of relegating them to the upper decks.

You can sit there anytime you want to. Every seat has a specific price relative to it's location.

There are $50.00 seats, but not there. If you want to sit behind home plate you will need to spend more than the cheap seats.

Thanks for the economics class.

You missed my two points:
1) This looks terrible on TV.
2) Players derive energy from excited fans.

Most real fans do not have $300-$600 to spend on a baseball game.

Move these seats off to the side somewhere.

Who care how it looks? The seats are paid for, and the people/persons/companies that made the investment can do as they please with the tickets.

The players are motivated by a little bit more than some beer guzzling slobs screaming "Wilson"

If you don't have the money to pay for the privilege of sitting with the 1st class fans, then stop attending the games if it bothers you that much.

Not everything in life is a subsidized free hand out that the Government hands out to the "Underprivileged".

Things and situations in this country are getting ready to change very soon.

Who is implying anything about privilege and subsidies? You are trying to skew my main point into your political tirade, which is completely tiresome and immature. I can see that reading comprehension is not one of your strong points.

Get off of my thread and get back to over-billing the government, you tool.

For the record, I'm a big time Trump supporter and loathe Hillary. We at least have that in common.

"Pathetic", why do you care about something over which you have no control? If you don't like how this team is run...then go out and buy your own team and run it your way.

Here's the thing...complaining on an Internet forum read by tens of people won't resolve anything.

I don't even attend games anymore. Why sit with all the drunks and people standing up in front of you at the ballpark.
Last game I attended was last year and for 3 people on the first base side even with first base about 20 rows off the field, it cost us $330. This included tickets, parking, one drink each, a hot dog each, and a pretzel.
So, the HELL with that crap.....I have MLB TV and a nice A/C house with a 44 inch TV.

Have fun on Sunday at the 105 temp game.

A lot of people come late to 7:00 pm games. Of course some people are going to show up late for a noon game.

Looks like a typical Redskins game.

Players derive energy from excited fans?! Assholes like Strasburg should be deriving energy from the $25,000,000 he makes each year.

"why not move the seats off to the side?"

Apparently YES, you do need another economics lesson. Clearly, you don't have the funds to buy these seats.

How much would the seats be (genius) if you moved them off to the side? How much then would the new seats be that you are bringing into this very same location?

I bet you think that breaking spaghetti in half gives you twice as much.

Bringing a gun to a knife fight? That's the Chicago way.

Arriving late and leaving early for sporting events? That's the Washington way.

So let me wrap my head around what you are suggesting - You want to take the existing Delta seats behind home plate, and unbolt them to move them off to the side.

I assume you mean moving half to the right, and half to the left, but give no discount.

Then install new seats in the spaces left vacant by moving the Delta seats, and charge a lower ticket price.

So why would anyone stay with the higher priced Delta seats that are in a less desirable location?

Where would you locate the seats you needed to unbolt and move to put in the Delta seats?

Your suggestion makes no sense, and will cost a lot of money in labor to move around all of the seats, and to purchase new seats to replace the Delta seats.

Oh, I always use fresh hand made spaghetti from Dean & Deluca.

Absurd prices.

I'd rather watch a game in the comfort of my A/C, then pay that much money to sit in a tight, cheap, plastic seat.

The same with the Redskins. I used to pay to go to games at RFK, because it was fun. With the new stadium, I only go when a friend/colleague/co-worker offers me a free ticket.

And, I'll tell you what, I've given up 10-15 free tickets over the last few years at Fed-Ex Field, because it's a bullshit experience.

The last post was spoken in Pig Greek, in case you didn't know.

What he meant to say was, "Baseball exults in all ways."

In reality, if the last poster is a misanthrope, and hates all things human, then I sort of understand him. I also pity him.

However, if there is something that the last poster enjoys, then I label him a moron. He has a lack of understanding, and enjoying, the greatest sport of all time.

I totally agree! I watch most Nats games on TV and those seats are mostly empty. Or they are filled with people who really aren't there to watch the game. They are often on their cell phones, waving to get on camera, If companies aren't going to fill the seats - they should sell the tickets for some reasonable amount and donate the $$ to charity. I watch lots of baseball, and other stadiums don't seem to have this issue.

Why would anyone fight through the nogs to sit in 100+ degree temps on those dark blue scalding vinyl seats?

Just to note that Strasburg's recently signed contract calls for seven years at $15 million, then seven years at $10 million. No $25 million seasons are involved.

Also, the large Delta Club bar and restaurant is directly behind those seemingly empty, extra-wide and comfortable corporate seats. There's A/C and shade back in the bar plus table seating and free food and drink of considerably higher quality than typical ballpark fare. This accounts in large part for the seeming absence of fannies in those seats.

And unless you are some scout interested only in charting and radar-gunning the pitchers, seats directly behind home plate are a terrible place from which to watch a ballgame. Like seats next to the ice at a hockey game, fans may want to shell out to try it once just to see what it's like, but at any price, it's no place to be on a regular basis.

If the Nats were smart, they let the wounded warriors sit there when the seatholder are no shows. Win-win. Costs the Nats nothing, seatscard filled, looks good on TV and great publicity.

Direct your attention to Nats HD. Do you understand where those people come from to make their appearances? Now back in the day, it used to be that they were all actual "wounded warriors" brought down from rehab at Walter Reed. Now, it's just "brave" servicemen and women and their families. Kind of not the same thing. You might say that it's all descended into pointless jingoism at this point.

I've only been to about half a dozen games this year, but I have yet to see these hordes of "nogs" you complain about. The Metro, when I take it, is overwhelmingly white or Asians. When you exit the station the only African Americans you see are a number of enterprising individuals selling water or souvenirs, or are police officers conducting traffic. In the stadium probably more than 90% of the fans are either white or light skinned Hispanics. Yes the beer man is African American but he is quite pleasant.

There are a number of good reasons to watch from home. You don't waste the time travelling to and from the game. The food is better. Unless you are watching to jumbotron or the TVs at the park you can get a better view of the action at home. Having to fight through hordes of nogs though is a racist fantasy.

Near SE was a pretty tough area a dozen years ago or so. Now it's Yuppieville. The ballpark has brought billions of investment dollars pouring into the area, and while things were stalled for a while by the Great Bush Recession, the place has been converted to being a broad Bethesda-like area these days. Upscale condos. Million-dollar townhouses. Popular parks. Terrific restaurant options. M Street, 8th Street, PA Avenue, Eastern Market...it's all a diverse group of well-to-do 30-somethings that roams the streets these days. With their dogs and their baby-strollers.

Racist goobers of course don't want to hear this. Or see it. They are too afraid to do anything but hunker down in the no-class parts of NoVa and never go into DC at all. They go to Chantilly gun shows instead.

Teehee. The Nationals are the embarrassment of the MLB already anyway. In their short existence they have already redefined the meaning of Playoff Choking, to the point where their idiot fan base now proclaims that it's the regular season (not the playoffs) that matters in baseball.

And since only slow-minded losers go to baseball games anyway, it's actually a positive if the seats shown on TV are empty. Makes the city look a little more intelligent.

Try your evening stroll over at Barry Farm. It is only 5 minutes from Nats Park, and your upscale townhouses.

You go ahead and keep fucking around down there, and those people will shove that baby stroller up your ass.

In a region awash in firearms and where you can easily purchase blades legally I am supposed to worry that some random black person is going to fashion a homemade weapon and wade into a sea of people to attack me? On the scale of probabilities having my pocket picked or getting into an accident driving home from the game or Metro station ranks much higher.

Although it's less than 2 miles, you can't do it in five minutes. But next time you go, do stop off and play on the railroad tracks. The eventual impact will make you a much better person.

I'm sure you'd be such an expert on street life in Barry Farm. What a sorry-ass worthless fucktard you are! By the way, Barry Farm has nothing at all to do with Marion Barry. Dumbshit racist asswipes have a strong tendency not to know that.

I try to avoid the outside the beltway crowd as often as possible. You can immediately pick them out of the crowd by their low brow demeanor.

You started off strong in your assessment of the area. I lived there when it was not the place to live... about 20 years ago.

Of course you went off the rails when you started attacking other people who don't live there and may have their own reasons for choosing to live where they do. You sound like a typical elitist Hillary voter.

LOL! People can live wherever they like (and can afford), but white trash trailer-parkers will know exactly NOTHING of the current state of life and affairs in SE DC. All these lifetime losers can do is spout off their usual ignorant racist bullshit. What dumbfuck racist asswipes should do of course is simply shut the fuck up. Sadly, that's just one more thing that they don't know how to do.

Blow me, you scum-sucking piece of trash. Facts can be tough things to swallow sometimes, and one fact that stands out here as clear as a bell is that you are a worthless two-bit asshole. Feel free to go fuck yourself.

White libs and their self serving attitudes are pushing poor black families out of their neighborhoods that they have lived in for generations. So they are actually part of the problem.

When anyone points out that there is crime being committed by rampaging hoards of black people, they scream "You are a racist".

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, but don't come back pleading for help when you or your family falls victim to some thug simply because you have a smart phone.

This has always been true, and it has nothing to do with DC. The playoffs (especially these days) are nothing more than a series of made-for-TV exhibition games. Bad teams win and good teams lose with regularity. The games may be good theater, but they are not real baseball at all.

LOL! Baseball has been the thinking man's game since even before the days of Christy Mathewson. It is also the only sport about which a significant actual literature has grown up. Too bad you don't measure up.

Aww, that's the cutest thing I've ever read. Butthurt Nats fans and their dopey logic never cease to amuse. Someday when they manage to win a playoff series, you'll change your tune entirely.

And we both know that you've cheered them along during all of their playoff series' to date, getting all giddy with glee as it looked like they were about to win....only to watch them choke it all away in classic DC fashion. :-)

That's only because they have so many boring ass games/year.

Average attendance for NFL - 67,604
Average attendance for MLB - 30,514

A major college football game turns out more people in one day than some MLB teams do in probably a month of home games.

So, the antidote for boring would be to do something six times a week instead of just once a week. I think there may be a hole in that logic.

MLB teams play an average of 13.5 home games per month. If 30,514 fans attended each home game, that would be an average monthly home attendance of 411,939. Even if they played every single Saturday and never played concurrent with a NASCAR race. no major college football program would surpass that number.

Look, you may not like or understand baseball. We all realize that there are those frenetic types who require constant emotional jarring simply to feel like they are alive. Maybe you are just one of those. But the facts still say that baseball is not dying, but is rather broadly popular and becoming more and more popular every year.

Ummm... You realize that you just made my point by having to compare a MONTH of MLB home games (even using the average, not as I said for some teams) against attendance at ONE event.

The fact is, as I said, that the only reason that MLB's numbers are high in total as you cited is because of the much greater number of games played vs others used for comparison.

I understand baseball perfectly well. I used to be a fan. I even worked with MLB on the major rewrite of their web site at one point. As difficult as it may be for you traditionalists to recognize it, the game is painfully slow and there are just too many of them. Even fans and players are bored with it at this point in the season. Attendance actually has declined since the peak in 2007. You can blame some counting-type factors for some of that but popularity really is not rising in any way. You also can see the decline in things like World Series viewership.

0eba770c787a6d8f57170449cdb43f57.png

Regular season viewership bounces some year-to-year but the trend also is substantially down over the longer term. Some of that moved to other ways of viewing, which have greatly increased compared to what they were, but still don't make up for the overall decline.

People have an attention span of maybe about 15 minutes at most these days and desire immediate gratification. Like it or not, the game is not a good fit for any of that. It's too slow, games take too long, and there are too many of them.

LOL! And baseball is SO BORING that crowds of 30,000+ turn out day after day after day for every single one of an 81-game home season. And in many venues, you have to scramble to get tickets for those all-important Spring Training games. Here are the facts. loser: The attendance numbers for baseball are so high because the game is accessible, affordable, and above all else, massively popular. That's what's going on here and nowhere else.

> I understand baseball perfectly well.

Plainly, you understand next to nothing about the game. It simply floats gently above your seriously over-amped little head while you remain below, flat-out oblivious to it all. Go watch some WWE reruns or something.

Go take your Adderall, dum-dum. The rest of us -- having operative intellects -- will sit back and enjoy the unfolding of a baseball game tonight and then do it all again tomorrow night. Game after fascinating game until the curtain sadly comes down in October. Then, we can't wait for it to start up again when pitchers and catchers report. In Boston in particular, they celebrate Truck Day each year -- the day when the 18-wheelers set out from Fenway Park to carry team equipment down to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers. You don't understand that. You don't know what the hell to make of it. It's all your loss here you know, that you are unable to appreciate and process what has been going on all around you for your entire life.

> Even fans and players are bored with it at this point in the season.

How would you know? You are neither one. You're just a no-account blabber-mouth nobody,

> Attendance actually has declined since the peak in 2007.

Total MLB attendance in fact increased by 9.5% between 2003 and 2013 and has been bouncing around between 73 and 74 million per year since 2010. See those data tend (as yours deliberately did not) to push the effects of the Great Bush Recession right out of the equation. Got any more deceitful cherry-picked gibberish numbers you'd like to pass on to us here, weakling?

> You also can see the decline in things like World Series viewership.

You really are a special kind of stupid. Annual World Series viewership is highly dependent upon the markets involved. If markets like Kansas City, Detroit, and Dallas get in, TV moguls are pissed for reasons that are too obvious to require an explanation.

Yes, in fact they do, just as cable TV expanded total TV viewing even as over-the-air audiences declined. People with "devices" (many of whom are young) watch on those devices in part because they have such range and flexibility. MLB has burrowed deep into the world of live streaming on demand with prices falling further all the time. It's all a crowded world that didn't exist at all just a few short years ago.

I'm not even going to guess when the last time you read an actual BOOK was. Meanwhile, make an appointment with a local mental health professional. Perhaps there are drugs or forms of therapy that can help resolve these issues you have with failure to recognize the nature of reality.

Fact is that you were trying to slide annual attendance numbers by without accounting for the difference in the number of games. You got called on it.

You know it's true. That's why you have to respond with this kind of crap.

Know why stats and trivia are such a significant part of baseball? So you have something to do while sitting through the too-long, boring-ass games. lol

Come on... You don't really think that you're going to get away with that kind of obvious bullshit do you?

In typical contrived baseball stat fashion, you try to cherry pick your starting year with 2003. Why don't you want to start with 2000? Because 2002-2003 was way down from 2000-2001 and 2003 represents the lowest point that you could start counting from. Weak. lmao

Even then that doesn't really help your case since most of the increase that you want to claim was leading up to 2007. You even now concede that, in fact, it is not "becoming more and more popular every year" as you claimed. At least as measured by attendance which has been relatively flat. It's doing good now to equal the 74.4 that it was in 2005. That's not even accounting for the increase in number of potential participants over that same time.

That explains the smaller ups and downs that you see year-to-year in the bars. It doesn't account for the very large downward overall trend line as anyone can obviously see. Sorry.

Golly gee Wally, I didn't realize that! Considering that we built most of the original on-demand components of the MLB site you'd think that I'd know that kind of thing. No, it doesn't make up for the difference. What has happened primarily is that the same audience has traded off of live TV to other means of consumption, not that any new audience has been gained. Those devices do come in handy though to give you something else to do while you're sitting through the too-long, boring-ass games.

Unfortunately it's not me that you need to be concerned with. There's a whole generation of non-fans who haven't grown up with the game, most of which very likely never will be fans. Your head-to-head with other sports is 'off base.' That's not the primary competition. Now it's more Call of Duty, Minecraft, etc., and individual recreational activities vs organized team sports. Relative to other alternatives now available the game is too slow, requires too long of a commitment of time and attention, and there are too many games most of which for most teams mean nothing. (The same applies to a large extent to other major league sports as well btw.) MLB understands all of this which is why it's now doing things like the pace-of-games stuff. If they thought that they could get away with it without pissing off you old timers still penciling in scorecards, you'd probably be seeing sharks with lasers on their heads somehow incorporated the game. lol
