GSA Chooses Springfield for New FBI Headquarters
Posted by: Federal News ()
Date: July 21, 2016 11:55AM

Word out of the General Services Administration (GSA) is that an existing GSA site in Springfield has been selected for the new FBI Headquarters. Two communities in Prince George’s County had been the other other finalists for the headquarters, one in Greenbelt and the other in Landover.

Federal officials have begun the next phases in the relocation of the FBI’s headquarters to Virginia.

The Obama Administration approved a $1.4 billion budget request earlier this year as the next segment of funding for the new headquarters.

Contributing to the selection of the Springfield location was the variety of transportation options already available near the site, despite earlier announcements that Metro access was not being considered as a primary criteria.

President Barack Obama intends to propose a budget that supplements the $390 million, passed by Congress in December as part of a larger spending bill. The money ultimately will enable the FBI’s relocation from the J. Edgar Hoover Federal Building, the agency’s longtime home on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, for the new Springfield location.

The goal of the relocation is to provide the FBI with a consolidated facility, bringing its 25 satellite centers throughout the capital region together into a single space of more than 2.1 million square feet. The GSA found that the Springfield site can accommodate more than 11,000 FBI employees.

That's racist.

How will all those nigger support workers get to Springfield? Oh wait, that's right. The FBI does real work and doesn't want niggers working for them.

Well I hear Metro is hiring.

I used to see a negro midget maintenance worker at the JEH building. It wore white coveralls.

It's probably somebody wants to stir up some shit because he knows that local reporters occasionally use this site for tips, so they're gonna waste time trying to get their contacts to confirm it and get the scoop.

The park is a mix of older flex warehouse buildings developed in the late 1990s and is assessed at a combined $72 million, according to Fairfax County land records.

An asking price of $124 million seems to indicate that something nearby has caused its value to increase. That's a lot of money if the objective is to tear down and rebuild.

obama opened FBI offices right near West Virginia Coal mines - whcih is where Pepco (the corrupt energy company) bought it's DC coal from.

and obama sent dc niggas and foreigners to West Virginia with federal cash to control and take over WVA coal - probably to kill anyone until they were in control

obama.gov even suggested that "WVA's management is poor and needs federal oversigh by europeans with much higher experience in coal production"

meanwhile - DC was being sued for not paying their coal bill and was refusing to pay

the inflation on USA and "foreign empowerment" of those attacking USA 911? IMMENSE AND UN-HEARD OF EXCEPT DURING A WORLD WAR

*infact at that time niggas in DC were being arrested for like $80,000 credit debt even thought they made that much yearly throught their gov job black connection - atrocious behavior. $15/hr my ass they were racking up debt and relying on gov to look the other way.

WASHINGTON — The final decision to locate the new FBI headquarters in Springfield, Virginia, is expected to be announced in December, and Virginia state and local officials are already planning for the move. The relocation is expected to provide an economic boon for the area, which includes the recently renovated Springfield Town Center and several nearby underdeveloped land parcels.

Two possible sites in Maryland, Greenbelt and Landover, were rejected primarily due to traffic and crime considerations.

The FBI headquarters, currently located in the hulking J. Edgar Hoover Building on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, houses about 5,000 employees. The Hoover Building was built in 1975, but after 40 years, the General Services Administration has determined the structure no longer meets the FBI’s needs.

The Hoover building houses only slightly more than half of the FBI headquarters’ employees, and there are multiple FBI divisions scattered throughout the Washington metropolitan area that will be consolidated in one location when a new headquarters is built.

GSA started to seek interest for a new site in 2009, but the deep recession at the time forced the agency to put the search on hold.

In December of 2012, the GSA issued a request for information seeking developers interested in housing a consolidated FBI headquarters. In July of 2014, the agency selected the Springfield site in Virginia and the two sites in Maryland as finalists.

The government envisions a building of 2.1 million square feet to accommodate 11,055 employees, at an estimated cost of $2.5 billion.

The Virginia site was selected because it best met the requirements of being served by mass transit, has adequate surrounding highway infrastructure, and is in substantial conformance with local land use plans.

The site for the new headquarters is currently occupied by a government-owned warehouse that is operated by the GSA, with an unnamed government tenant, according to Fred Selden, director of Fairfax County’s Department of Development and Planning. Springfield would prefer not to partner with a private developer, keeping the sensitive project under government control, he said.

“We knew that not only is the site convenient to Metro and other attributes, but it is also a redevelopment that will be accomplished using government land,” Selden said.

Fortunately, Maryland has a plan B for the Greenbelt site. With plans to build around the Greenbelt Metro before FBI headquarters relocation news was announced, a lot of the preparatory work already was done.

At each of the three sites, officials have said they had received largely positive feedback.

Still, there has been concern among some area residents about the impact such a large facility could have on local traffic. In order to address such worries, WMATA is already putting together a plan to improve traffic around the Franconia/Springfield Metro station.

The first part of the plan is to build a new garage between the two facilities, so that it does not interfere with the existing parking at all.

Springfield, where the median household income is 4 percent lower than region's median household income of $91,756, stands to gain financially from the project and the relocation of employees. Springfield is also racially diverse, with 43 percent of the current population being non-white. The Washington metro area is 56 percent white. Source: U.S. Census American Community Survey 2014.

The federal government has to give the FBI to Maryland because Virginia has gotten most of the recent agency moves. Maryland feels shortchanged and they would throw a huge tantrum and file numerous complaints and lawsuits if they don't get the FBI.

Everybody knows this.

Let PG county have 'em- and we will see how long they tolerate it before they realize it was a huge mistake- between the really long metro commutes (can be an 90 minutes each way from vienna to the metro stations out there with all the track work) and the "fine citizens" of PG breaking into their cars and robbing them when they leave the secure premises for lunch- it won't take long for them to hightail it back to VA where it is SAFER and CLOSER to quantico and whatnot already here.

The agents already know it. I have a couple who live in my neighborhood here in FFX. If they move to PG, both said they will seek reassignment outside DC. One is a 14 and would probably have to take a downgrade to a 13, but he said he'd still rather do that than have to commute to PG every day. Both said they would NEVER move their families there.

Why would they need to move their families in the first place? They would rather uproot to a completely different city over a few miles. They should just resign now for incompetence.

Then again, the decision will be made by GSA political dweebs. Who live in PG County.

The Virginia location does appear to be the best choice for all the reasons they say they are considering.

No dumbass. Here, let me break this down to a 1st grade level so your 6 year old mind can understand:

They hate the idea of a shitty commute, especially to a shithole like PG County
They won't move their families there to make their commute tolerable
They will therefore seek to move to somewhere more desirable by getting transferred.

There ya go junior, do you understand this simplistic idea now? If not, kill yourself.

They should move the HQ down to Quantico with a "day" office in Dc for Big shots that have to go to the capitol on certain days.

That said Springfield is the next place They should be.. But It does seem that site is a bit small but it is in a location that can be well secured as well.

DAJAX Just think of the Ruined Agents that would go bad.. After going broke at the new MGM casino in PG , they would have to pass every day. With Springfield They would be saved from the temptation.

the location where the GSA is located is 2 minutes away from Newington, Wegmans, and Kingstowne, and Franconia. So are you saying no one you know with a decent job lives there? Everyone I know who lives there are business owners or current/former govt employees.

This project is officially on hold.

President Trump wants to personally review all major building construction projects.

Appears he has some expertise in this area and wants to apply it.

Greenbelt not looking as good.

"Officials believe Greenbelt will need about 60 percent more parking spaces than initially projected if the city is chosen as the site of the FBI's new headquarters.

A draft Environmental Impact Statement released in 2015 estimated only 3,600 parking spaces would be needed if it was located in Greenbelt."

The Springfield site has room. Look at the map posted previously above and you can compare Metro parking lot to site. The 5,000 garage would easily fit on the site, they could also put 20% more under the building(s).

It think they're being too aggressive with parking. Technology and transportation business models are rapidly increasing. By the time it's built and occupied self-driving Uber could be 1 or 2 years away.

The NGA East garage has 5,100 spaces. There is also an overflow lot (non-garage).

They always build less parking than is actually needed. That helps the oil companies due to increased gas consumption from people driving around looking for a spot, and it adds to municipal revenues from parking tickets. Parking shortages also encourage employee turnover which stimulates the job market.

WHICH IS WELL OVER $2,000 SO IF YOU PROVE IT, IT'S A MASSIVE FELONY AND JAIL TIME

however - your over-rating they way they work. they short-change everything so parking is a no-brainer. it is short-changed because everything is.

Obviously, with Springfield getting filled up with foreigners and minorities - it's AN OBAMA OBJECTIVE TO HAVE PEOPLE OF COLOR - ESPECIALLY THE ILLEGAL KIND - IN CHARGE OF HOW MUCH THE GOVERNMENT SPENDS ON WHICH EMPLOYEES - TO ENABLE THEM TO FUCK OVER USA EVEN FURTHER

OBAMA DIDN'T BUILD IT. SO THE FACT IS: THE SITE HAS TO BE RE-ASSESSED AS TO WHY SPRINGFIELD, NO LONGER A PLACE WHERE USA MILITARY IS STRONG, WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO SITUATION A CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE WORKPLACE

I WOULD SAY BUILD IT IN TENNESSEE CLOSE TO THE AMAZON MAINFRAME AREA, OR THE MINES

Springfield is the probably most militarized part of Northern Virginia. It is about a half-mile from the Fort Belvoir North area, and the NGA is right there. The DTRA is also on Ft. Belvoir and Intelligence agencies have facilities in the immediate area.

Springfield has a very high number of military and retired military people living there due to the proximity to Ft. Belvoir and the Pentagon. The Navy Yard, Andrews AFB, and Bolling also have a lot of people coming from Springfield.

There is a lot of pressure on the government to give the FBI to Maryland because Virginia has already gotten a lot of agencies.

First, you say 'its about politics not logic' and then provide and explanation based on logic - already a lot of agencies in VA.

The fact is politics and logic are not exclusive of each other.

There's nothing more than the usual 'pressure' aka lobbying. ALL states compete for business and jobs. Equity in distribution of agencies isn't a significant factor in federal decisions.

The Springfield location just pulled way out in front of the two Maryland sites.

GSA decided to defer to Congress for funding the project, which naturally gives the Republican Congress some additional say in the selection process.

Previously, "Congress was under the impression that GSA planned to use the proceeds from selling the current FBI building to fund the bulk of the consolidation project, and that it ultimately had little authority to get involved since it asked for a small amount in appropriated funding."

The solid Democrat Maryland contingent is "dismayed" by this recent event.

The only issue preventing a decision right now is that there are few national Republican leaders from Virginia who represent the Springfield location and can take credit for the move. Congresswoman Barbara Comstock is the senior Republican legislator from Northern Virginia, but does not represent Springfield. One possibility is to include Fairfax County Representative Pat Herrity, who is well respected by the Virginia delegation of both parties.

The professional FBI staff overwhelmingly favors Virginia over Maryland because of its proximity to the Quantico FBI training facilities, and their own homes.

Trump administration has sealed the deal about the location of FBI headquarter. The article “Trump Has New FBI HQ as Leverage Over Sanctuary County” written by by Edmund Kozak explain the problems of putting FBI in prince Geroge county:
…The region is famous for its crime and corruption — on Jan. 5, two PG County officials were charged in a liquor license bribery scheme and only five days later, former Maryland Delegate and PG County Council member Will Campos pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges in a different case. But Prince George’s County also happens to be a “sanctuary” jurisdiction, making its consideration for the location of the new FBI headquarters — which is slated to lease offices to agencies involved in immigration enforcement — all the more paradoxical. In 2014, the county’s Department of Corrections announced it would no longer honor Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers without a warrant signed by a judge that demonstrates probable cause. "This campus is to include offices for ICE and Border Patrol, yet it will reside in a jurisdiction that openly violates federal law," Sue Payne, a member of the Remembrance Project and former Baltimore-area radio who is concerned about the impact of these laws on her community's quality of life, told LifeZette. "PG County … is an openly declared sanctuary jurisdiction for illegal aliens. The police do not honor ICE detainers," Payne continued. "How do you put an FBI campus that represents the law enforcement agency in this nation into a jurisdiction that open violates federal law?" she asked….

Agree, can't put FBI HQ in a Maryland sanctuary county.

But the Springfield site ain't much better. It's in Gerry Connolly's district and with the crap that Connolly and Kaine have been saying of late there is not much interest in helping them out.

If Barbara Comstock could identify a site near a future Metro or VRE station in her district it would be a done deal. Despite having to redo the location work again.

We arent helping them out. This is for the good of Fairfax County. Any Fairfax county resident would support the move to Virginia.
