The national education budget of South Korea is just over 11 billion. The FCPS budget is just over 2 billion.
Something is very, very wrong here. Safe to say, South Korea probably does not have a lot of administrators with online Ed.D. degrees, their spending on transgender facilities is probably somewhere around zero, and they probably review contracts of educational consultants rather closely.
It seems FCPS could learn a thing or two from South Korea.

No. I don't want to pay more for lunch every day to cover stuff for people, here legally or not, who will never contribute to the tax base. I already pay plenty in car and real estate taxes. I work across the line from Alexandria and avoid going there at lunch for this reason. Reduce spending.

Yes, the Meals Tax is important. Because our friends in Richmond do not want us to have much power or autonomy (they just want to keep taking our money), we are stuck here in NoVa with a narrow tax base that depends heavily on taxation of property owners. This is akin to putting all one's eggs into the same basket. We need to shift some burden away from property owners and diversify the tax base. Towns, cities and counties all over the state have already taken this step (including nearly all of the other jurisdictions in this neck of the woods) and it's time that Fairfax County awoke and did the same.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with questioning Jensen's credentials. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with with pointing out that at $9,000/day, Jensen's hourly rate approaches that of a top tier attorney.

The reason I am going to vote for the meals tax is that it is a great way to get revenue from non county residents. At any given time there are thousands of tourists staying in our hotels and eating at our restaurants, people who travel here from other counties to work will pay the tax every time they go to McDonald's or any other food place. It is a great tax because it is not entirely on the backs of county residents.

At first I thought the meals tax was a bad idea. After reading up on it I now realize it makes good sense.

I like the meals tax idea and everyone in my neighborhood is in favor of it except for one really ignorant guy.
