Police Scanners for Fairfax

ok it's been a while, but I'm back. I see they retired my Amanda Wenk post,
I got a Pro-96 Scanner from radio shack to test out, I've been getting alot of good info from the area and I figured out how to scan the 800 MHZ channels that are used for this area. What are better scanners out there? I want a portable only scanner. The web really doesn't have much to offer in comparisons ect.

Uniden is pretty much the only other consumer priced scanner out there. Not sure on the model # but get the digital one. I have a Radio Shack (GRE) 2096 base scanner and have been happy with it.

I think FFX county employs "trunking". I tried scanning last summer but couldn't find anything beyond EMS.

Right... you need a digital trunking scanner. A non-digital trunking scanner won't get the FCPD.

I have a 2096, I could stream it but I dont have alot of bandwith so it'd have to be mirrored, and I like to play games so my computer is sometimes down for a few hours.
The other thing is I'm in PWC now so you'd have to listen to them too. It can be pretty interesting if you're stuck at home on a weekend night. Alcohol poisionings, Blockbuster video robberies, etc. I have yet to catch a pursuit in progress though.

I've posted this on other threads on this forum, but here it is again - this guy lives in PW County, and has a scanner streaming that scans PW County, VSP, and Fairfax County

As far as a good scanner for picking up Fairfax County, you will need a digital trunking scanner (as has been said here before). Expect to shell out some cash though. You're lucky if you can get one for much less than $500.

I have a Uniden BCD396T - Great scanner - I highly reccomend it

If by that you mean all you need is a $25 rtl-sdr dongle and a computer then I agree.

go to Bearcatwarehouse.com and order a home patrol II. Tell them what frequency's you want and they will set it up. I listen to all of Fairfax County and anything with in a 15 mile radius of this county. Money well spent. State police in that package too.
