Looks like someone get evicted the old fashioned way by Fair Lakes
Posted by: Zombie Dr ()
Date: August 07, 2009 10:08AM

I was driving on Fair Lakes blvd yesterday and just past the Best Buy on the other side of the street, just before the stop light I saw a whole bunch of stuff sitting by the road. It looked like a yard sale at first. Everything was sitting there, a couch, a bed, a dresser and a couple was there looking through it. They were still there at about 10:00 last night, I didn't see if they were still there this morning, but I would imagine so if they wouldn't have anywhere to go. I thought that kind of eviction only happened in movies and sit coms.

I saw that as well around 6:15PM. I couldn't tell what the hell was going on. Thought it may have been some kind of strange yard sale :/

The sad part is that the deadbeat will sue them in small claims court and win. If you evict somebody without going through the court, the jackass will just claim that the valuable stuff was damaged or stolen.

I just tried to Gimp it a bit so it wouldn't look like the poor quality amateur cellphone picture (which it is)

I never understood this part of the eviction process. And the people that rifle through all of that person's belongings and steals shit are fucking assholes.

Why don't the sheriffs departments at least order up one of those "PODS" 20 foot trailers, stuff as much as they can fit into it, send it off to storage so that the evicted person at least has a chance at getting their shit back? They can tack on all the costs to whatever else the person owes, and if, after a certain amount of time (3 months, 6 months, watever), they haven't paid off their debt to reclaim their property, that shit goes off to auction. Whatever the Auction nets could go first to the storage fees, then to pay down their debt or just go into county coffers.

I mean, even when the bank reposesses your car, they don't throw whatever personal possessions that happen to be in the car on the street. If you can't pay up to get your car back, they at least allow you to retrieve your personal possessions from the car.

Why just throw the shit on the curb? Are Sheriff's Deputies just a bunch of jilted women?

Why should we pay for their storage? They've lived rent free for months. If they care, they could have moved the stuff or put it in storage. Why should we all pay for that?

Reading comprehension. It's not that hard.

If they don't reclaim their property within a certain time period, that shit goes to auction. Once it's been auctioned, the state or county or whoever can use the money raised to pay for the storage fees, and then either (based on however they choose to write the laws) give the remainder to the evicted party, or put the money into general funds or whatever.

So, "we all pay for that" isn't even a valid argument. It will at least pay for itself (and possibly provide a motive for people to come forward and own up to their debt) and could possibly put a little more money into the county's funds.

An auction? Wow, what a great idea!

I'm sure there's a huge demand for cum-stained mattresses and particle board furniture from WalMart!

Well, the real tragedy would be if these people were just renters and came home from work to find their stuff on the curb.

One of the problems with this latest mortgage crisis is that landlords who were renting out their condos/homes get the foreclosure notice but never tell the tenant because they want to keep getting the monthly rent check. In fact, Just this July a new law went into effect requiring landlords to notify their tenets if they go into foreclosure. I'm sure most don't know about the law or follow it.

ยง 55-225.10. Notice to tenant in event of foreclosure.

The landlord shall give written notice to the tenant of a mortgage default, notice of mortgage acceleration, or notice of foreclosure sale relative to the loan on the dwelling unit within five business days after written notice from the lender is received by the landlord. This requirement shall not apply (i) to any managing agent who does not receive a copy of such written notice from the lender or (ii) if the tenant provides a copy of the written notice from the lender to the landlord or the managing agent.

(2009, c. 663.)

A lot of shit would have to be trashed, but usually the type of people who end up being evicted have all of the latest and greatest electronics and appliances.

Ever notice that there are more satellite dishes and fairly expensive cars in the ghetto than in a working class neighborhood? I used to deliver pizzas in High school and College, and the people with the biggest televisions and the latest game consoles (often one of each) lived in the most squalid homes. Yeah, their furniture sucked, but somehow they could afford (or stole) all the big entertainment center electronics.

The gentleman that was eivicted went into the woods of southern Virgina and hung himself, after calling his little girls to say goodbye.

I hope that satisfies your need to see someone distroyed. Everyone involved is sick over this. You people think it's funny, that says alot.

People take all kinds of crap. About ten years ago I was cleaning out some stuff my family and I had stored in the basement. I found a case of this fruit drink that fell behind furnace and had been there for about three years. I remember buying a bunch of it and couldn't find the last case.

I put it at the top of my full trash can and put in out by the curb. A few hours later I'm looking out the window and I see a car full of Mexicans suddenly stop right in front of my house. This kids gets out, runs over to my trash can and grabs the case of "fermented" fruit drink and hops back into the car.

No joke, this family probably drank some juice that had been stuck behind my furnace for at least three years.

Ah, yes, the old "Mexican Yard Sale". Happened to me a few years ago.

I was cleaning out a bunch of old crap, broken electronics, random crap in boxes that I hadn't touched in years. I put a few loads out by the curb, and when I came out again about 20 minutes later, there were a bunch of hispanics digging through the piles. After a moment, a lady who was sitting in a chair that I had just put out, noticed me and asked if I was moving! What If I had been, and I was just setting this stuff out, waiting for the moving van? Anyway, I told her that I was just throwing stuff out, and they went right back to their rummaging. The next morning, most of it was gone. I did see my broken DVD player on the front seat of my neighbor's van.

Senor, your DVD player works great! I fixed it in about 5 minutes.

We don't have much dinero, so we fix stuff and use it.

In my country, there are many, many old american school buses, including some from Fairfax County, that are running 20-30 years or more after you gringos thought they were worn out and got rid of them. They paint them purple or lime green, put racks on the roof and carry up to 100 people between villages. Some are over 50 years old and still driving through the jungle and over the mountains every day.

If the Sheriff's department evicts an individual the county has a truck that picks up the furniture the same day.

They should also arrest any scumbag looters. Or, actually, can't looters be shot?

It would just cost too much. In terms of manpower required to coordinate this, actual renting of the pods, storage fees, etc... the bill would be huge. Since they got foreclosed on and evicted, it's pretty obvious most won't have the money to pay a large bill.

So their shit goes to auction after 6 months. You'd have to have someone sort, organize, and manage the auction. They'd probably have to contract it out. Or, they could do it like a giant yard sale, but then they have to have someone determine the value of all the individual items. They'd probably have to contract that out, too.

So, they could spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a program to make life easier for evicted persons, or they give a couple mexicans with a pickup truck a couple hundred dollars to take it to the local dump.
