first he talked about the poor and that they are not lazy and how some race think they are better than other race groups. then talked about how in the past America was racist, and how some people who are running for presidents are racist and want MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. "GOOD OLD DAYS" ! Had to listen to 3 hours with this dude. I am not sure if his allowed to hate America so much. I asked him at the end of class if he voted for Bernie and he said Yes. I asked since his a socialist if he can give me an A and he said that isn't how socialism works and I Should stop listening to my mommy and daddy and think for my self. Can I report him to the president of the college?

This is the problem with these clowns, they really need to leave politics and some things out of the classroom or at least have an open and balanced discussion if it is relevant to the class.

You will learn that professors are individuals with their own beliefs and prejudices just like everyone else. If you want to do well in their class you must meet their expectations. After all, they are the ones with the power to pass you or flunk you or tank that hard earned GPA of yours.

So my suggestion is to sit back and listen to this guy. Figure out if he's the type that likes to debate issues and is receptive to hearing opposite view points (interesting) or if this guy is the type that wants to hear you spout back what HE says (baahhh). Then give him what he wants.

There is no way that a *MOM* is calling a kid a "loser" for going to community college.

Part of what you go to school for is to learn how to conduct yourself in "The Real World". Chances are very good that in your adult life you are going to need to work for or with people whose views differ strongly from your own. If you are going to succeed you will need to learn how to "suck it up" or "fake it". Consider this class to be a chance to develop that skill.

Besides you are in summer school and the class is on an accelerated basis.

I've heard some of that but I also know that there is a price to pay for that mentality. Their right to buy into I suppose.

This. Common sense, as usual, from Bill. I bucked this advice once in graduate school (GW). Had to take a course called 'Individual and Group Dynamics in Organizations'. The professor was a self-satisfied ass. We were required to keep a notebook of our honest thoughts on each lesson and turn it in at the end of the semester. I did. Let's just say it did not end well. Lesson learned - people generally only want to hear your opinion if it happens to agree with their own.

Like everyone else said, don't bother trying to fight this asshole. Also, reporting him to the president would undoubtedly accomplish nothing while also wasting your time in the process and putting you on the radar for any other chumps within NVCC. Gotta know when it's worth picking a fight.

I sympathize though, these kind of profs. drove me nuts.

Bill N. above has it right. You are going to have to work in the real world with people that you know to be absolute idiots of all sexes, races, religions, colors and political persuasions. You have to keep quiet and just focus on doing your job to the best of your ability.

Set your own standards and work ethic, because there are a lot of people, especially in government or 8A firms that simply collect a paycheck. Most of whom don't even bother to show up for work on a regular basis. Don't sink to the lowest common denominator because it's easy to do. Strive to be more than that.

In the class room environment don't think for a second that you are going to be treated like an adult and on an equal footing with the instructor.

Assholes like you described above don't care about teaching you anything. His mission is to politically indoctrinate young adults to "not think for themselves" but regurgitate his politically correct mantra.

I would drop this class and find some other elective if you don't want to screw up your GPA. Already you can't get any better than a "C" in his class. Or if you like you can tell him he's full of shit in front of everybody and then drop the class.

Does this professor have an online Ed.D. degree? If so, tell them they can make more money and do less work if they get a position with FCPS. Also, they'll get lots of free food and travel.

If college is all about alternative viewpoints, then why are the socialist professors not giving their students all available alternative viewpoints so that they can learn the pros and cons of each one? College should not be a brainwashing camp, the original goal used to be to turn out people who have learned to think for themselves and take responsibility for their choices themselves.

Dropping the class is an obvious solution, but it might not be the most practical one. The class might be needed to meet some gen-ed requirement or be a prerequisite for some higher level class. Even if the OP is just taking the class to pick up credits, with the accelerated summer schedule dropping the class and picking up another one might not be an option.

As for "racist piece of shit teacher", it is also possible what we are dealing with is a reactionary know it all student, or a STEM kid who sees no value in becoming what a generation or two ago would be known as "an educated person".

Many of the better professors are also the ones who get the lowest ratings. There are many students who only are there to get credits and get high grades, and they are shocked their professors actually expect them to do the work and to learn the material.

A professor with an online Ed.D. degree won't make you work, in fact you'll get an A even if you don't bother to show up for class. Truth to tell, there are not many jobs for people with online Ed.D. degrees. People who have them teach for a while, then they seek a permanent position as a school district administrator. They don't want negative reviews.

Just tell this guy to sign up for an online Ed.D. program and within a year or two of finishing it he'll have it made. If he already has one tell him to apply to FCPS has the transgender rights administrator.

NVCC is highly aware of the flaws the young mind have and use it to their advantage to INCREASE RE-ENROLLMENT (for money).

they used to have english classes full of suicide essays when i was there. changed books ever semester to almost same book to increase prices.

they now have many "certificate" (NON-transferrable courses)

and ALL THE CURRICULUMS are longer till you graduate than ever before: money, time, money, time

a sociology proffesor (assuming he is - i'd bet he's no better than a pre-school teacher)

knows that if he causes you to hate the class you will likely not remember the material and have to re-take the course until you pass

go home f'in foreigner if you dont like it

It's professor Stewart, I know. Just get through it. Complaining to Dr Ralls is like complaining to Obama aboutgetting a parking ticket. As for Nova certificates, choose the ones that roll into a degree and can transfer. Talk with an advisor. Not every one wants a transferable certificate, so it is offered. Curriculums are longer? Not sure what you mean by that. In class clock hours and learning outcomes are mandated by SACS, and credits needed for programs of study have been steady for decades now.
