Recommendation for Local Movers?
Posted by: novaguy78 ()

We are making a cross-county (east side to west side of county) in a few weeks and there are so many of these fly-by-night places that it's scary to think about trusting these people with everything I own, even for a 20 mile move. Can anyone recommend some good companies that treat their customers fairly and won't overcharge at the last minute? Thanks.

I know a number of people are pleased with either

JK Moving or Carmack Moving

Interstate moving in Springfield. Not the cheapest, but they are the best. They have been in the moving business in Northern Virginia since 1943

I've used Paxton in Springfield 4 times. Professional crews, top notch packing, and they go above and beyond. They also didn't flinch for a second when I mentioned a 1000 pound safe to move- none of the other smaller companies would touch a safe.

Not JK.

They ripped me off then ripped off another neighbor a few months later.

Guys standing around goofing off for half the day then charging for extra time. JK is notorious for ripping people off.

That is the benefit of the 7-11 moving package. If the Beaners stop working or slow up you can threaten them with INS or ICE.

Hire any two or three black guys you find on the street. They'll empty your house in a flash. The downside is that your stuff will never make it to your new place.

I just used Town & Country for a 2 stage move (old hours to storage / storage to new house). These guys were fantastic.

This company is awesome! I have used them for the last 2 local moves I have made, and they are wonderful! I'll use them again if I move locally in the future.

Can confirm...Interstate is the best. I once moved from DC to Seoul, Korea. I had forgotten to empty all of my ashtrays before the packers and movers came. When I got to Seoul and started unpacking, I found that they had zip-lock baggied all of my ashes, placed a baggy in each ashtray and then wrapped each ashtray in bubble-wrap and brown paper and taped them shut.

We've used JK for a local move Oakton to Fairfax and a long distance move Fairfax to Florida and had a great experience with both.
