How many FFX County residents own cop cars? And what does the FFX County Underground community think about this?

What do you mean own cop cars?

I mean owning retired police cars. My dad owns a Ford Crown Victoria, former detective car.

Why anyone would purchase an old cop car....

they have been ridden hard, and put up wet. All the time spent with the motor running idling with the AC on. not to mention the hack job done on all the wiring when they decommission them..

You really need to be a mechanic to own one Yes they are cheap....

This is true, but some police departments have different ways of decommissioning them. And sometimes there will be ones that were retired early for whatever reason and have much less wear and tear. Even the more heavily used cruisers run pretty well, seeing as they were fleet-maintained by the department pretty intensely to keep them in shape for their duties. My dad's police car has been running well over the 10 months he's owned it.

Black folk seem to buy them, for some reason.

If they include the back seat cage, shot gun rack, and 2 sets of complimentary handcuffs, I might consider buying one as a family car.

I have a 1970 Plymouth Fury III that I bought at an auction of surplus state property in 1974. It is an unmarked 1970 Plymouth Fury III (440 ci, 4 bbl) that I was told was a "sargeant's car. It had about 76K on the clock.

Original black paint is near perfect and it has it's original little bitty hubcaps. They left the spotlight but removed the "highway whip" on the rear deck, I had the holes filled and paint touched up.

Here it is 2016, and at age 46 this car will still bark the rear tires when that torqueflite hits 2nd gear!

Nice! I love old Mopar cop cars, especially a certain 1974 Dodge Monaco. :D

Some of these can be had with very low mileage. It's not that far from the station to the Dunkin' Donuts.

You know, on Ebay and craigslist, you can frequently find cars in amazing shape. One Ford Crown Victoria i found on Ebay had around 77k on it.

its not the low miles. its the time time spent with the engine idling... and the resulting potential for sludge buildup of oil deposits...

My dad, when he bought his car, made sure to check the idle hours and how clean each car he considered was.

Cop cars are not regular street cars. They have additional gear added such oil coolers, beefed up suspension and dual battery systems.

If you go with the Chevy Caprice PPV, they are basically the long wheel base version of the Pontiac G8 GT. They have 6.0L V8 rated at 351 hp and have the heavy duty suspension. Only one I see around this area is the red VSP one that works in Fairfax and PW along the 66 corridor for the most part. Just have to be careful as the 6.0L engine has a little bit of a habit of dropping lifters as they have the cylinder deactivation from 8 to 4 cylinders to improve gas mileage. A lot of people pull all that DoD crap and replace it with a non-DoD cam.

I find the post-2004 Impala as an interesting cop car. It's especially good as an unmarked because it doesn't look much like a cop car, but the police model definitely lives up to it's job. Fairfax County uses a lot of them in my area.

In the medium-sized town where I grew up, a guy had such a car. He'd repainted it and fixed it up, complete with graphics (which did NOT say "Police" but were reminiscent of real cop graphics) and a non-functioning light bar. He finally gave it up only because he got tired of being pulled over and having to demonstrate that there was no siren and the light bar wasn't functional. But it was way cool to see!

Of course this was 35 years ago; nowadays he'd be pilloried by people afraid he was going to pull women over and assault them...

Actually, an officer is required to clean out the back of his car after every time he transports someone in it.

That's because back then we fucking built real cars here in the USA.. Real Steel big engines etc.. Now we build wimp mobiles that fucking suffer $3k dollars in damage when some asshole bumps you in the ass end with engines that act like a 50year old fat fuck going uphill when trying to climb a small hill..

Ranks right up there with volunteer firefighters putting a siren and lights and their POV. Anybody buying an old cop car is a fucking wannabe at best and a serial rapist at worst. They fuck up traffic flow when people think thy're legit.

I know a place in Nokesville called High Performance Motors, they have multiple cars. They might give u a good deal if u buy lots

The county has a few of these that I sometimes get to drive if my county truck is in for service. They still have the local government plates on them for added realism. It is amazing how different people drive around me when get one of these cars. My neighbors think something is up when I have one in my driveway too.
