Parking for Hybrid and Electric Cars Only

WAWA is starting to make some inroads in the NOVA area and I noticed that they - like other LEEDS conforming buildings - are putting up "Parking for Hybrid and Electric Cars Only" signs in premium spots at their facilities.

Now I completely ignore these silly signs as there is no functional reason for them. Seems like most others ignore it also as I'm not sure I've seen a qualifying car in any of those parking spaces yet when I go there.

Some people just order the Hybrid Badge on ebay from a legit hybrid car and stick it onto a conventional gasoline car. What about a 58MPG non-hybrid Geo Metro? It gets better mileage than many hybrids and can't get Special Clean Fuels tags for HOV or use any of the benefits of hybrids.

Good idea about ordering the badge on ebay. I am going to get one for my 1984 Ford F-350 4X4 with a 460cid 4V engine.

And I will be regrettably writing you a ticket...In the Commonwealth of Virginia, it order to qualify for hybrid/electric specific parking on Commonwealth owned property you must have a hybrid/electric classification on the vehicle's license plates. In order to receive that license plate, your VIN is confirmed with the DMV when you register that vehicle.

As for hybrid/electric specific parking on private property, such as the spaces on the lower level of the parking garage at Springfield Town Center, it's up to the landowner or its agent to decide what to do with an improperly parked vehicle. They could boot you or tow you, depending on how their signage reads and their contracted towing operations.

Leave them to the hybrid/electric cars only. We don't need your ancient firebreathers to be around the spots anyway.

They had these at one of the rest stops on the jersey turnpike. (Had the misfortune of having to attend a wedding there recently.) I just ignored the sign and parked my crown vic there anyway. Nobody bothered me.
