I watched the whole thing. It was awful and mesmerizing at the same time that people could be so dumb in the name of "compassion".

These kids don't need to be mocked or bullied--but this is not going to make them like all the other kids--and that is what they want. But, it's just not. In fact, it is going to make it worse, I think. Because the other kids will now resent it. The next step will be that FCPS will start making dumb decisions on a "case by case" basis--and the trans people are not going to be the only ones that are confused.

Succinct and appropriate commentary. I saved the youtube to use as an example of how our elected leaders ignore Roberts Rules of Order, cast disparaging and condescending looks at those they disagree with, and use opportunities to pontificate - i.e. the wagging finger student representative. The meeting was a great example of how not to govern or run meetings.

What I want to know is how the policy will effect overnight trips. How will children be assigned to hotel rooms -- by biological sex, or claimed gender?

Where is the push back? I can't believe that parents will just sit down & let this happen. I pulled my kid out of FCPS two years ago, but I will stand with any parents who want to fight back.

I live in the City. All City students go to Fairfax HS. Not sure of the percentage but it could be 80% total student body are City residents. This school does not get a vote in the school board election.

All of this is stupid. The law needs to back up to one word “discriminate”. The more specifics added [not to] discriminate against, the more [specifics] are needed. It just narrows the law by adding specific groups to its [not to] list.

Simply, "Do NOT discriminate” must be the way the law reads and then let the judges rule. Otherwise, there’s no way out of this insanity.

These public accommodations exist for the purpose of hygiene, safety and modesty, not to affirm the self-identified gender of certain individuals. These facilities are restricted to persons of the same sex to protect the bodily privacy of all individuals. More importantly, it shields young boys and girls and all others from offensive, criminal, and dangerous behavior by voyeurs, exhibitionists, and rapists.

There are individuals with several conditions (in addition to gender dysphoria) who are uncomfortable using a multiple–occupancy, sex-designated public bathroom. These persons include but are not limited to those with a disability, deformity, or the need for assistance from a caregiver. A single-user, uni-sex bathroom is a reasonable accommodation that protects the privacy of all children.

FCPS is going to need to vote again.

Sure we know what it means: another feather in the cap for Mr/Ms. McElweeny on his/her political ascent. Next stop: Board of Supervisors where he/she can do some real damage.

This Board is unbelievable! This new regulation has a ton of implications that the Board refuses to explain. When is the consultants report coming out? The Board requested it over a year ago.

Why are they so afraid of the giving details to the public and answering questions?

It is the a lesson taken from the Nancy Pelosi book of governing. Knowing that if the consultant's report is released prior to the vote, it would mean facing death threats for their families and a public rebellion. Instead, by taking the "you must pass this law in order to find out what's in it" approach, the damage is already done and very hard to undo. The damage was already done when you filled out those little circles on the ballot and reelected this board.

I am sending a msg to my school board rep to ask when we can expect the report. This is ludicrous.

It should be telling that the MD yearbook for my kids school was titled "Define your Normal".

It's instructive to read the Dear Colleague letter http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/letters/colleague-201605-title-ix-transgender.pdf and the Examples of Schools accommodating transgender students http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oese/oshs/emergingpractices.pdf

These documents show the policy approaches of 20 school districts that have addressed issues pertaining to transgender students. In general, common sense prevails and the principal and staff are given leeway to find equitable accommodations using their judgement. I expect FCPS can come to the same reasonable conclusions, although it will likely take an inordinate expenditure on "consultants" and involve a lot of inflammatory rhetoric from social justice warriors and their minions who don't take the effort to be the least bit informed...

I just posted this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here. And I agree, the school board, except for the 3 sane ones, is a mess, controlled by lobby groups with money outside our county.

The schools will provide private accommodations for those who object to multisex bathrooms and locker/showers.

I think we ought to come together and file a petition, because it does affect more than just privacy, girls athletics are no longer fair for those girls who don't make the cut because a boy takes her place.

According to the school board, any student who requests will be provided private bathrooms and changing facilities.

Since bathrooms and lockers are now multisex at FCPS, those of us who don't want our kids publicly changing or using the bathroom publicly with the opposite sex, have to ask for private accommodation.

Strange, since the transgender student in VA who sued the school board, the judge ruled that providing a private accommodation for that student wasn't sufficient. But somehow FCPS seems to think what is not OK for the transgender student, is OK for the rest of us.

I recommend everyone start putting in requests with their school (principal, counselor and gym teacher) to let their student use a private bathroom and changing areas.

The key here is to defeat the meals tax which will show the Board of Supervisors that the residents (taxpayers) of Fairfax think the schools are out of line.

But the idea of bombarding gym teachers etc. with requests is good. Every such email should be cc'd to Bulova, your supervisor, your school board member, each of the at large school board members, Garza, Lockard, and Foster.

Finally, Foster is not the consultant-for all we know they are waiting for Catelin Jenner to lower his/her/its rate so McElveen can get a selfie.
