I went to the Safeway this afternoon to do some shopping and to take advantage of everything being 20% off. Fucking bastards have raised the price on many items prior to the 20 % discount. I was so disgusted and walked out.

The safeway in Vienna closed about a year ago, and I'm pretty sure it didn't destroy the community.
It's a fucking safeway. They never had a great selection, it was always the safeway branded generic, and maybe one or two national brands. Their produce department is filled with low quality vegetables trucked in from Mexico (even before globalization) and their deli has 6 different types of potato salad, but very little of anything else. Not even egg salad, just the 6 different potato salads, tuna salad, macaroni salad, and two other choices.
Losing safeway is like losing McDonald's.
Oh, wait, yeah, I'm sorry, the folks bitching about safeway closing probably eat at McDonald's a few times a week, if not a few times a day. In that case, you folks should be more concerned about whether you have a good hospital nearby and that it remains in business as your diet leads you into the health-care system for diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, etc.
Safeway's motto should be "If you like high-fructose corn syrup in everything you eat, and you still haven't figured out why you keep packing on the pounds, we are here for you".

First and Last time working at a grocery store. hate it! hate it! hate it! too many faces too many things to deal with at a simple job. Im honestly going to miss safeway being open til 12 because i could walk up there and buy beer at 11:59. tonight i had to drive to 7-11 to buy beer cause safeway had virtually none left. i like most of the cashiers, the younger ones really, late at night. safeway will forever be revered in the neighborhood. there will never be a better grocery store. period. fuck giant.
