Crap, that was my go-to place for beer from 10p to midnight. When is it going to close? Maybe some other grocer will move in, that shopping center is expanding.

I went into that store once in my life about 6 months ago. It was incredibly depressing. They should have handed out ant-depressants at the door. It was like a 3rd world grocery store. Good riddance.

I think the ants have enough shit to be bummed out about as it is.
I learned the store is closing from all the signs plastered on the entrance doors. The store was never anything to be proud of but their prices are better than GIant and their airline mileage promo with United Airlines earned me enough miles over the course of a few years for a free plane ticket to Seattle. They also had the free gas promo which got me a free half tank of gas once a quarter.
I can't stand the Giant up the road. It's always crowded, long checkout lines and higher prices. On the positive side, they do have a better variety of goods.
Maybe I'll stop at the fancy new Safeway in Fairfax on my way home from work when I need groceries...

Dude, I recently moved to South Riding, it sucks balls. The houses were built like shit, and all the people are assholes. There's nothing to do, the D.C.'s an hour away. You try to go to one of the pools, there's people wearing fucking turbans in the water. Gross. I can't fathom why you would be proud to be a resident of Southeastern Loudoun. They should demolish South Riding and build a huge Safeway
Safeway and Giant are both about the same distance from my house. I go to Giant 9 times out of 10, so I don't really care that Safeway is closing. I wonder what's going to take its' place? Maybe a Blooms or something?

I'll bet... it has a whole community of suckers willing to pay 30% more for just about everything. Some of their specials are good, but unless you shop specials-only yeah they love you long time for the premium you are paying.
I go to safeway 10 times out of 10. its open later, less people, and cheaper beer. its by far the best grocery store in centreville. those fucking 'do it yourself' check out lines at giant piss everyone off. I do not fucking work there, i should not have to scan my own items. P.S. the sign on the the door at safeway says the pharmacy is closing august 24th. it says absolutely nothing about the rest of the store closing
Lots of safeways closing. The one in Vienna is gone, this one is gone. I think that any safeway that isnt a mega safeway or one that sells gas is due to exit the market.

I love self checkout lines... I wish Wegmans had them.
Yeah, I use them myself. I have a pet peeve with Giant that they only have one or two lanes with a human at the cashier Friday and Saturday evenings, and they are always people too young to sell alcohol so a manager has to clear it. I'd rather go to self checkout and have the blinking light call a manager over to clear it and I don't have to wait through the line.
I also like to tell it to use Spanish for the spoken commands and stuff.

Dude, don't you like MILFs and cougars? Asian chicks? The Harris-Teeters are great pick-up joints.
Centreville does not even compare to all of Loudoun Co, especially Ashburn and Brambleton.
All of developed Loudoun Co. = New homes, zero crime and clean streets. Plus, there's more money in each of these neighborhoods, in both income and property values.
Centreville = Everyone looks like Trebor Snika with their loud exhaust, straight-brimmed baseball cap, gold chain, FUBU tracksuits and Friday night meet-ups at the McDonalds parking lot. Not to mention that wispy goatee that took a month to grow, but you think is gangsta.

God-dam. I always see those Indian ho's that smell like the inside of a porta-john with the sarees on. And the asians are all "mo tong fo chink"
There's a bunch of stores that are likely leaving that complex - the Safeway, Century 21, G Street are all clearing out in the next few months. The Subway is moving into one of the new buildings they're building currently.

Perhaps Safeway is building a larger store and taking down the old one plus adjoining stores before building the new store. They did this at the Pan Am Shopping Center off Nutley when they built the new store there.
fuck yeah this shopping center sucks they better put some good shit in place of the old useless stores. a fucking real estate office, animal hospital, asian dry-cleaner, and add shitty ass ledo pizza its terrible, just terrible.
Have to admit it wasn't the nicest store, but I could go for a walk and pick up bread or even milk if I felt like really energetic. so i am bummed. does anyone know what they are putting in place of it. hopefully a more efficient grocery store
And tear some houses down :) Wegman's takes up a lot of space. They could fit a Trader Joe's in there, but it is probably too close to the one at 28/29.

WTF."
LOL Great summary. The crime aspect is key. Read the crime reports in the local section of the WaPo. Some weeks there is literally nothing listed for the Dulles District, which covers the neighborhoods you listed. No CDs stolen from a car, no tools stolen from a construction site, nothing. Never mind real crimes.
But some people would prefer the "urban flavor" of C'ville, I guess. To each his own.

Nope. That Safeway just doesn't do enough business. They're relocating the employees to other stores, and they aren't renewing their lease after September.

London Towne area and over by the library are the more run-down areas... the rest is very peaceful. Actually they tore down all the run-down building by the library, but there do seem to still be a lot of South Central LA elements that still roam around there from somewhere.
I really have never encountered what that poster describes in Centreville.

centreville:Estimated median household income in 2007: $92,493
south riding:Median Household Income:$102,363
ummmmm, you arn't exactly bill gates compared to centreville
and i bet you spend all that money on gas for the extra 2 hours a day it takes you to drive past centreville down rt 50 on your way home from work. and don't forget about the extra 2 hours it takes to get to work in the morning too. get off your high horse. new homes doesnt mean good homes, and south riding is just as shitty as centreville.
believe there's a Walmart Supercenter arriving in Manassas.
They have a Walmart in Dulles undergoing conversion to Supercenter this fall. The prices at the Costco and Wegmans have dropped due to Walmart Supercenter, Super Target, Sam's, anc Costco all located near each other.
Hey Dumbfuck, The guy was from Ashburn and killed her at home. So, SR still has no murders. Can't say the same for ghetto ass Centreville. Your shopping centers are all shady as hell too.
The commute is the same considering most people who live in SR and Centreville commute to DC, McLean or Reston. SR has the advantage of the Loudoun Co. Parkway, which has less traffic than 50 or 28. So suck it, ghetto resident.

That was the guy who strangled his gf, then wrapped her in plastic and stuffed her under the bed. I think he's referring to the Indian guy who chopped up his wife, then threw the parts in a dumpster. But that guy wasn't in SR either. I think he lived in Brambleton or Ashburn.
It really all depends on where you live in Centreville. Most neighborhoods in Centreville nice very low crime suburbs. I've lived in Centreville for 20 years and I think it is a great place to live.
I drive through SR every day on my way to work (very nice reverse commute) and while it is certainly newer Centreville offers a lot more conveniences in my opinion than SR. But let's face it - the newer developments a little farther west and south of Centreville (Gainesville/Bristow/Haymarket/SR/Brambleton/etc.) are basically somewhere between 10-20 years behind the Centreville development curve. 20 years from now living in SR will be like living in Centreville now.

They already own all the shopping centers in central Centreville, just a matter of time. Drive through Annandale if you want an idea what it wll look like in about 7 or 8 years....

Now I have worked at that Safeway for a few years now. I must say, most of you on here seem like you don't really care. The elderly people from behind the store how ever really do care. With out us there serving them where can they go? If it hurts anyone its them. Last few years, Safeway has been on par helping you the customer by listening and going with what you all say. A lot of you might not know that but they do listen to your thoughts. As for what's going in to this location where we are currently I hear is going to be another Asian market, like a grand mart ect. No bloom, no harries teeter no wegmans ect. I honestly have enjoyed working at this store and meeting a lot of regulars that shop in the store about daily. I've come to know most by first name and have really enjoyed having them in my store and department. I honestly will miss a lot of them and my co-workers when we get transferred to other stores. So to all you loyal shoppers, I would personally like to say thank you for shopping with us and in my department.

No. Nobody cares. It's a fucking Safeway. People will just drive to Shoppers or Giant or Bloom or whatever.
Unlike "whut," here, most of us don't become emotionally attached to a corporation that sells food.

Depends. Safeway is expensive on some items and cheaper on others. I prefer my local Safeway over my local Giant from a price perspective but the Giant is about 3 miles closer - which means 10 minutes closer.

Veronica Wrote:

I doubt it's older than me. It's depressing because all the sorrow in the world congregates there, forming a black hole of despair. That is why it's depressing.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. They have all gone on to better things...Mike moving to Florida to do his weekly infomercial for Harley Davidson, until it is canceled for lack of interest; Buzz, writing his boring and inept "guest columns" for POLITICO, until The Right outs his perverted lifestyle; Rob(b), pretending to be working on a new radio show; Beth Ann, back to selling carpet remnants in N.C.; and Joe....who is answering phones at WJFK (guess he is the same). And Katie who, with any luck, is nowhere near a microphone and never will be again.

It's meant to symbolize what that Safeway means to people. Yes, I could have put a crappier Safeway photo in there. But what message would that have conveyed? I mean, I do need some artistic license here.

Can't be. The safeway fire in BC was night time...
"The fire caused the store, at 3600 W. 144th Ave., to close Monday night, but it has since reopened. A resident in the Broadlands neighborhood noticed the fire around 9:40 p.m. and called 911. A crew from North Metro Station 64 had the blaze out within minutes."
