Chesapeake Dock Dogs will have a free demonstration on Sat May 14 from 1 to 4 pm at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston.
I saw one of these demonstrations last year. Photos are below. In the 6th photo, it only looks like the dog is jumping next to the canoe. In reality, the canoe was at least ten feet beyond the line of jump of the dog.
Most of the dogs were true champions, four-legged athletes. They jumped after a toy thrown by their owners. Occasionally the owner threw the dog's toy too short, too far, or otherwise poorly. Most of the time though, owner and dog coordinated well to provide a beautiful display of canine athletics.
A few of the dogs had not jumped before. Some of the newbies didn't do so well, such as by simply stepping off the dock and then swimming after their toy.
I'm guessing that the event would be postponed or cancelled if there are thunderstorms.
If you like dogs or athletics, this is a fun event. Come out and enjoy.
