Why, oh why, did I know when I read the headline "NFL Owner Invests in Cruise" it was going to be this...

There's no excuse for this.

Dan Snyder has gone L. Ron Hubbard on us.

With any luck, Dan The Man will use the same hands-on approach with Cruise that he did with the Redskins when he first acquired them - chase off Brad Johnson for Jeff George (George flames out, Johnson wins the SuperBowl) or unload Stephen Davis for Trung Canidate (Davis goes to the SuperBowl the next year, Trung who?) And look at what Danny is doing for Six Flags, bringing in an ESPN Sports guy to run an amusement park. AWESOME! With Danny's track record and Cruise's enthusiasm, can Battlefield Earth II be far behind?

You know, after this weekend's successful debut of Invincible, Dan is probably going to cast Cruise in his epic: "I Have Two First Names: The Story of Jeff George."

It's the story of an NFL player who nobody wanted, until Dan Snyder had faith in him. Like George, Cruise has a lot of experience jumping up and down and throwing tantrums. The climax comes during the big game when Cruise as George confronts Marty Schottenheimer, played by Jon Voigt, and yells, "Marty, Marty, you don't even — you're glib. You don't even know what a play-action pass is. If you start talking about balanced offense, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Marty, OK. That's what I've done. You don't know the history of zone coverage, I do."

The movie ends with Cruise heroically throwing an interception to Jason Sehorn, played by John Travolta.

You put way too much thought into that.

And yet you know it will only pale in comparison to what Danny and Crazy Tom are going to come up with.
