Mnuchin donated repeatedly to the Democratic front-runner's past campaigns and has business connections to George Soros, the Democratic megadonor who has given millions to a pro-Hillary super PAC. It's no secret, however, that Trump has also donated to Clinton's past political efforts.

After spending 17 years at Goldman Sachs, Mnuchin became founder, president and CEO of OneWest Bank Group LLC from 2009 to 2015, a bank backed by Soros and several other hedge fund managers and billionaires. The group sold the bank to CIT Group for $3.4 billion in a merger that was completed last August.

During his tenure at Goldman Sachs and beyond, Mnuchin contributed more than $7,000 to Clinton's New York Senate bids in 2000 and 2006 as well as her run for the Democratic nomination in 2008, according to federal contribution data on OpenSecrets. Mnuchin also donated $1,000 to Republican candidate Steve Forbes in June 1999, along with several other presidential and congressional candidates in both parties. Mnuchin contributed $2,000 to Barack Obama's 2004 Senate campaign and $2,300 for his presidential bid in 2007.

Other beneficiaries of his largesse have included John Edwards, Chuck Schumer, Rudy Giuliani, Al Gore and John Kerry.

Few businessman in this country can claim the kind of record Steve has with regard to helping people.

His programs and businesses have enabled thousands of people to get into homes and start building equity for themselves, not to mention the tens of thousands of jobs created as a result of his economic contributions through the years. Congrats to Steve for accepting this position and we look forward to having him on the team.
