Tom Ammazzalorso has lived in the City of Fairfax for almost 20 years and was the past chairman of the City’s Republican Committee. But his candidacy for local mayor is the first time he’s run for office.

He has taught for two decades and currently serves as the Social Studies department chair at Suitland High in Prince George’s County Public Schools. An instructor in the International Baccalaureate program there, he teaches classes in the History of the Americas and in American Government.

Ammazzalorso, 43, holds a M.Ed. in Education Leadership from GMU’s College of Education and Human Development, plus an M.A. in International Commerce and Policy from GMU’s School of Policy, Government and International Affairs. He’s also a 32nd degree, Scottish Rite Freemason of the Valley of Alexandria Scottish Rite in Alexandria, as well as a member of the Shriners International Kena Shrine in Fairfax,

Now, though, he wants to get involved in his City. “The City government has critics,” he said. “But I decided to do something about it, instead of just complaining.”

He is a GMU grad and former chair of the Fairfax City Republicans, and the OP thinks he will stand up to developers?!? Even his website suggests his problem isn't with development in general, but instead is with certain types of development.

Well, he is terrible at promoting his campaign but the current mayor sucks balls. Silverthorn or whatever his name is went to Radford and is apparently unemployed and living with friends per a Washington post article. He also expanded ( approved ) the l amb center to a 5000 square foot hobo magnet just down the street ( thanks for more crime). Also all of the building the council has approved is laughable because the businesses that move in are gone within a year due to high taxes and other various factors leaving vacancy all over the city especially the Fairfax Blvd area. The public service have also been on the decline the last few years. I don't know much about this guy but it is time to send the current mayor to the l amb center for good :)

Silverthornass has seen to a few family business go to big developers when it could have been avoided. Someone who has personally filed for bankruptcy and lives in someone else's house has no business running a small city.

And he foreclosed on his house! Thanks buddy! That affects everyone. How can someone who cannot manage their own life feels as though they can manage a city? His foreclosure reminds me of all the businesses that have gone belly up in the city. He also sold a buch of city property in Loudoun county without bids. Seems sketchy.

Small city's can't afford a bad year. One bad year equates to 10 bad years. The circle is trash central, you can't even get a cup of coffee without being begged by 10 bums. He opened the gates by expanding the filthy l-a-m-b center to a massive facility. I also find him condescending and a know it all after attending a few city council meetings.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/former-mckinley-teacher-arrested-for-theft/article/109435

former McKinley Technology High School teacher was charged with second-degree theft on Thursday in connection with a $100,000 grant that D.C. school officials say vanished.
Rick Kelsey was the director of STEM -- science, math, engineering and technology -- at McKinley when the national AARP awarded the Northeast high school $100,000 for its efforts to help senior citizens use the Internet in 2008.

Police records show that Kelsey was arrested at 10 a.m., charged, and was held overnight. Sources close to the D.C. Public Schools investigation say the charge relates to the AARP grant, which staff planned to use to further students' assistance to senior citizens. The school system has been investigating the funds for more than a month.

A spokeswoman for the school system said that "at this stage, all we can say is that it's an ongoing investigation."

Kelsey's wife, Debbie, said her husband was given use of $60,000 of the grant, but that he has photos of the approximately $35,000 motorcoach he purchased, outfitted with computers, and used to take McKinley students to work with senior citizens. Debbie says her husband submitted bills for expenditures to the school system, which were paid.

"They did lots of different things" to help the students and senior citizens, she said. "He's innocent."

Sources close to the probe say the schools investigator is looking into whether or not Principal David Pinder had any role in the misuse of funds.

One former McKinley teacher said he has been questioned multiple times by Eastern Stewart, the schools' investigator. That former teacher said Stewart called the case "the biggest case of fraud, waste, and abuse that he's ever seen."

When reached by

The Washington Examiner , Pinder said, "I don't think it's appropriate to comment when an inquiry is going on, but I am confident the inquiry will reflect that the money was spent appropriately."
Stewart also declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.

Thomas Ammazzalorso, who wrote the grant application as a McKinley teacher, said Stewart asked him about "furniture purchases, dinners and trips people took" on Tuesday during a 90-minute interrogation on Tuesday at Coolidge Senior High School, where Ammazzalorso now teaches. Ammazzalorso said Stewart also questioned him on Nov. 23.

Exactly. Read thru the article it looks like Thomas A. applied for grant for students and was helping uncover the fraud when administrators used it on themselves instead of the students.

Tysons and the mosaic district are the development hot spots right now, the city of Fairfax taxes are too high. Granted they have built quite a few new strip malls the vacancy is astonishing high. Just The fierenza strip mall has 4 vacancys and a vacant bank pad. I'm guessing their theory is to fill them up with more title max loans.

Connell Loftus, husband of Nancy Loftus had business interests in Mexico. Given Murphy's Law, Fairfax would end up with Mexican power and become a center for sleazy debt collection.

Businesses fail because the people who start them don't do their homework. The business plan needs to consider location, demand, traffic, overhead, and a host of other important factors. You can't just have some pie in the sky dream and expect that riches will automatically flow your way. You have to know what you are doing, and you have to work really hard. I believe that to make development work, the developers need to be forced to own the properties for at least 30 years. If they go bankrupt, the municipality gets first crack at the assets, not the bankers, lawyers, accountants, high rollers, and other bloodsuckers.

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/City-of-Fairfax-Mayor-Arrested-for-Distributing-Meth-Police-Say-389282112.html

City of Fairfax Mayor Arrested for Distributing Meth, Police Say

Richard "Scott" Silverthorne, the mayor of the City of Fairfax, has been arrested after he allegedly gave methamphetamine to an undercover detective in exchange for a sexual encounter, Fairfax County police say.

Silverthorne, 50, was arrested Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tysons Corner.

Police say they received information in late July about a possible meth distributor. During their investigation, police identified a suspect who was distributing meth through a website used to arrange casual sexual encounters between men.

An undercover detective created a profile on the website, and within a few days, Silverthorne made contact, according to police.

The mayor allegedly told the detective he could provide meth in exchange for sexual encounters, according to police. The detective agreed to meet with Silverthorne, and Silverthorne agreed to bring other men to the engagement, police say.

On Thursday, Silverthorne brought the meth to the Chain Bridge Road hotel, police say. He was arrested and charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Silverthorne, who has been undergoing treatment for cancer, has been the mayor of the City of Fairfax since 2012. He was re-elected in May.
Police say Silverthorne is also a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools.

After his arrest, investigators arrested Juan Jose Fernandez, 34, and Caustin Lee McLaughlin, 21, Silverthorne's alleged suppliers.

Fernandez was charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

McLaughlin was charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say McLaughlin physically resisted arrest, and a detective had to deploy his stun gun. There were no injuries.

Silverthorne, Fernandez and McLaughlin were taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center for processing.

We are hoping that Mr. Ammazzalorso is running for Mayor and his name is on the ballot for the February, 2017 election. Since he had as many votes he had in the last election (after getting into the race so, so late) and would have won had he entered sooner, why doesn't he become the Mayor? Could it be that he is "not one of the gang." Please Mr. Ammazzalorso run for Mayor. On our street you got most of our votes - we didn't want Silverthorne in for another term. We, too know some employees with the City and they shared a lot of not-so-flattering things about not only Silverthorne, but the City Council. They are just too cozy with one another - they vote in unison - and don't want any outsiders into their inner circle. Please run Mr. Ammazzalorso!!!
