Police say a resident of a group home died after a confrontation with officers near a park in Virginia.

Fairfax County police Chief Col. Edwin Roessler Jr. says 45-year-old Paul Gianelos wandered away from his group Wednesday afternoon at a park in the Falls Church area.

Roessler said at a news conference that an officer found Gianelos about a mile and a half away and asked that his caregiver meet them. The chief said Gianelos became combative, and four officers restrained him, handcuffing him behind his back.

Roessler says Gianelos was alert and breathing when police summoned paramedics. He says when paramedics arrived, Gianelos suffered what appeared to be cardiac arrest and died at a hospital.

A spokesman did not know Gianelos’ race or the race of the officers involved.

Hope they had body-cameras and some dash cam footage

Yes, it does matter.

No, they will not release all of the footage. They will only release the footage of them arriving at the scene and then cut to where the paramedics arrive to take him to the hospital.

Condolences to this man's relatives.

What evidence do you have that it's murder?

In your mind, how have FCPD murdered this year?

Instead of murder, isn't it more likely that police tried to detain the mentally disabled man until his group home worker came to lead him away, man became combative with police, police struggle to handcuff the obese man, and man has a heart attack?

Here's a tip if you don't want this to happen to you.

If police announce that you're under arrest, comply with the police. Put your hands behind your back or wherever they ask you to. If doesn't matter that they have the wrong person, you have been framed, and/or you are completely innocent. Cooperate fully. If the police let you (maybe after handcuffed), you may explain to the officer that you just have the same name as the bank robber they are searching for. Otherwise, you tell your attorney and the judge about your many defenses. Hash it out in the legal process b/c the police are not going to let you fight your way out of arrest.

Resisting arrest is a serious crime, even if it turns out the police have the wrong man as you were unlucky to have the same name as the criminal they were searching for.

This is a very sad case, regardless of the outcome of the investigation into the police conduct.

Apparently the man was mentally disabled.

It's not unusual for drunk, drugged, or mentally ill persons to resist arrest. Criminals not subject to those conditions also resist arrest. All too often officers are injured making arrests on resisting persons.

While the investigation of this case proceeds, I'll just say that assuming murder in every police involved fatality of a resisting person is just wrong, morally and legally.

Finally, it has to be said: If you hate cops, next time you need help call a crackhead!
