Compelling? On day one, no. This is just Stepping Razor's take tho. Whatcha think Tone? DonkeyTimes? With the demise of TMOMS we have a new show to pick apart. So, how do you like the way the show is being billed? it is THE LAVAR ARRINGTON SHOW!!!(with chad dukes)... I think I heard them come back from break just billing this gig as Lavar, as in solo as in dukes as an afterthought. So the format is dukies interviewing Arrington. It is ONE BIG Arrington one-man circle jerk. How long can they waltz in the Arrington Ballroom. How long can we listen to Arrington wax poetic about Lavar. Chad, do us a favor and challenge the guy once in a while. You are taking this man's word as Gospel, and letting it go as that. Be Chad. This show is bad. Then again it is only day one. I do not think this show's future looks bright.

Jeebus, Come to think of it, how many of you guys can take a 24 hour sports format. Good God, The Mike show or whatever the show is that folloed the junkies interviewed Joe Gibbs, and they actually reran the interview later in the show. Dukes made an appearance around noon, and mentioned that they were going to rerun parts of the interview.
The most compelling bit of info I heard today was the existence of the Erin Andrews peep hole video. Heads up on looking for that though... trojans abound. Sports radio. JFK you have screwed the pooch. Jail-sex style.

Guys, it's the first show.

I listened to a segment or two coming home today. The show isn't going to set the world on fire, but it was refreshing to hear LaVar diss Dan Snyder. Granted it was in round about kind of way, but it's better than all the dick sucking that goes on everywhere else, since that douchebag owns a bunch of stations to spew his propaganda.

If that show is going to have any success its going be because of Chad. Lavar is a seeming really nice, unfortunately, great radio is seldom made by being nice. I noticed a few times during the show when they were talking call that some of the callers were filibustering. I'm sure chad wanted to hang up on them but Lavar was probably holding Dukes back from hanging up.

I actually thought it was pretty good for a first time out. They need to do more than bash the Redskins, though. I think it has potential to be the best show on WJFK.

Seriously, how is this format ever going to work? How is it possible that WJFK or "THE FAN"(insert gayish chorus) will ever draw the kind of audience that the old format did? Thank you 106.7 for killing the one thing i look forward to everyday. Chad, I love you, but this is BS.

The audience that the old format drew? You mean, 20th place? The old format was competing with Pacifica Radio and God Talk. There is nowhere to go but up.

I don't see the format being a huge ratings winner. But sports will have a more natural tie-in for many advertisers, especially those that already support sports teams. I'm sure the format will alienate what few MoM listeners were left. At the same time, it will attract people who would like a good sports station who don't want to listen to Dan Snyder's B.S. over at WTEM.

shhhh.. id be quiet if I were you... Lavar can hear you... you dont want to see him angry. You wouldnt like him or his show when he's angry (or when hes not angry).

All I am saying is that the 1/2 hour or so of the show I listened to was not bad. I guess I assumed it would be much worse with LaVar, but he was okay. Yes, Chad is a "sell out," but let's get real. Is the guy supposed to quit his job over this?

If you listen to sports talk programs, this is about par for the format. I think they may actually get better over time. The Junkies, however, continue to be a debacle.

I don't have much issues with Chad - Lavar is ok, but I just worry that he can't go the distance and do his research everyday to do a compelling show.

Sure, they can bash Synder and etc, but that will even get old.

That is what is great (I think) about The Sports Reporters on 980. Andy and Steve talk about sports naturally, they don't cave into the Redskins Kool-Aid, they diss the team and praise the team, they are fans of the team. Danny Boy def. has NOT censored them.

The gay-ish 106.7 "The Faaaaannn" music gets me everytime. I can only hope they keep getting Novartis as a sponser. I didn't hear it yesterday, thank goodness 980 has some spots still.

I didn't catch that part with the impressions. I can't imagine they would be any good.

Regarding the segment I heard, I thought Chad had a pretty good retort for the caller who complained about the "sour milk" content of the show. As Chad pointed out, the Redskins haven't been to a Superbowl in nearly two decades, the Wizards can't get past the Cavs in the playoffs and the Nationals are the worst team in sports....not just baseball....sports.

Chad is obviously the best part of the show. LaVar is tolerable and may actually be good with some direction (if he is willing to take it which, with his ego, may not happen).

Did you hear the bit about Mike Vick? Chad def. didn't agree with Lavar - Lavar was all about Mike Vick NOT getting an NFL suspension on top of his jail time already spent.

Lavar wishes he was like Etan Thomas or something, like a poet and deep thinker, when he should just stick to what he knows...which is something about the NFL and big time college ball.

What happens when football season is over? Can he talk about college hoops, etc? I know Chad will be able to host, but LaVar isn't like Doc Walker. Doc at least makes an attempt to get into other sports, its somewhat comical hearing Doc go on and on, but I admit, I enjoy the DC Lottery spokeman...ahahaha.

LaVar, you ain't no Rick Doc Walker yet!!!

Here is my take. I'm going to give it a chance. I'll give these guys a few weeks to start to find their legs. As for the timing of the show, they need to run that awful Junkies repeat during the 2pm to 3pm time slot and move Arrington and Dukes to 3pm to 7pm to cover all of drive-time.

This show is horrible. Lavar's impression of Stallone was embarrassing, not even remotely funny. And when he went fishing for the saying, "he who is without sin, cast the first stone" I almost crashed my car laughing too hard. "Um, whoever has not got in trouble, throw the first rock.” Sorry, I didn’t write down the two attempts he made at the quote but it was something along those lines and Chad had to step in to save him. I personally don’t know why Lavar is even allowed on Washington radio. He was Mr. Redskin until he decided to throw a fit about not playing enough or the way he wanted. He called a Washington hero, Joe Gibbs, a coward. Lavar complained yesterday that he was being taken out of plays. Of course he was being taken out of plays, he couldn’t move anymore after the knee injury, he was lucky to even get playing time. His free lancing game only worked with his incredible speed, when he could make up for his mistakes, but his knee injury didn’t allow for that. He has been grinding his ax since before he was cut and he is still doing it today while trying to convince us that he is a huge redskins fan. In my opinion, everything joe gibbs did to him was justified, and the NY Giants verified gibbs decision not to play him by cutting him one year into a multi year deal. I was glad to hear the negative comments about Snyder (because he does suck), but you cant have 20 hours of radio a week on that topic. I’m all for redskin bashing because snyder is running the team into the ground, but I don’t want to hear it from Lavar. The last thing I want to hear is Chad having to interview this "celebrity" everyday about how the redskins destroyed his career. His knee injury destroyed his career and no one wants his sour grapes. Even if they were to change topics and actually cover all sports, Lavar doesn't have the personality or brain power to excite a large audience. The Mike O'Meara show had really dropped off in recent months, but at least they appealed to a large group of people, including women. This show will be cancelled within 3 months.

God, are we the only people who get a kick out of the constant Novartis adverts? Hahaha...when you start writing like Hailey Wong I can't help but laugh out loud. Damn, that shit is funny.

Have you seen the clip on youtube of the Mike O'Meara show dinner party at Peking Gourmet in Falls Church? You can see Buzz in his glory...I bet all he is thinking about is glory holes. Buzz is an odd dude. Has anyone got pics of his swinging wife?

God I hope this gets better. I heard the last 10 min or so and Chad just sounded so restrained. I am a week behind on the BO&D podcasts at work and am listening to an unrestrained Dukes and it's why I liked the show. I just hope for him to achieve that level of comfort and rapport with LaVarr.

This show is not goona last a month if Dukes doesnt grow some balls and start fronting Lavarr. Nobody wants to listen to a radio show with a host and a "yes" man.

What a trainwreck Lavar is. I feel for Dukes, the show has very little flow after day 2. I am giving it time, but there is no natural banter, and Laver has insight but its just so strange. His love/hate with the SKins is uncomfortable to listen to often.

They have to get into other topics. Perhaps they should have kicked this show off once training camp started - right now its summertime filler and its hurts.

Again, Andy and Steve and 980 understand how to keep topics interesting over the summer.

Well after five minutes of listening I now feel completely overtaken with a feeling of utter despondency.

I pity Dukes. I can only hope in the next few days the feelings of self-loathing and regret will imbue through him until he becomes so upset that he reunites with Oscar and burns down the station. But that will probably never happen.

This isn't a well seasoned show cast the MOM show was. A reasonable amount of time to give the show a chance is 6 months. In 6 months all the major sports will be in full swing with plenty to talk about.

Someone needs to tell Lavar to stop interupting and or talking over Chad the few minutes he gets to speak. Its really annoying and breaks up the flow.

The only explanation I can come up with for this format change is because the Snyder stations can only broadcast about 100 feet from the tower. CBS must be thinking that during football season more people will tune in to WJFK solely because the listeners will actually be able to hear it in their cars.

I don't think Lavar will have much to offer even during football season. He wasn't in the NFL for very long and didn't play for much of his tenure. His vocabulary is weak and so is his knowledge of sports, even football.

Mike Wise is a drone and his show is almost hypnotizing in it's boringness. I'd be shocked if he makes it 6 months.

I was listening to WJFK yesterday and I must say, it was a very painful experience. I couldn't help but get the impression that every caller was staged.

One guy, I think it was around 2PM, asked a question and the host started in on how it was his "responsibility" to report the news. It was so pathetic.

The problem is it's all about LaVar talking to "his boys" from the team. That is going to get really fucking old.

I've actually bitched about how WTEM was doing way too much Redskins coverage when Snyder bought the station. WTEM has backed off a bit. WJFK needs to do the same. Having LaVar isn't going to help in that department because that's who he knows and that's what he is comfortable with.

Regarding LaVar's fixation on the Redskins, he needs to follow the example of John Riggins. Even though Riggo's show wasn't the greatest when it was on Triple X, he would talk about things other than the Redskins. He had no problem talking about the Wizards, Caps or Nationals. He also discussed NASCAR and the NCAA. Yes, I realize that the NFL pre-season will start in a few weeks. But LaVar and Dukes have four hours to fill. They can talk about more than the Redskins (hell, the biggest football news right now is Vick, Big Ben and Favre. They can even talk about that!).

Who's a better speaker: Emmitt Smith or Lavar Arrington? I know Dukes must hate having the share the mic with "LA," too. He's a child and he sounds like it. At one point yesterday he was calling Chad a jerk over and over and over again for about 15 seconds. The guy is a train wreck.

Chad is top notch radio talent and he'll be fine in the long run but the only redeeming quality of this show, for me, is laughing at LA's vocabulary impediment.

With four hours of time, they should be able to cover both national and local sports. Part of the problem they have, as has been pointed out, is that this is probably the worst time of the year to launch a sports format because the only things that are going on are baseball (with two sucky teams that are local), NASCAR (which is modestly interesting, but not really relevant locally), and the PGA (which is a wasteland when no major tournament is taking place). The only thing really happening right now that is "newsy" is Vick, Big Ben and Favre.

It's kinda tiring listening when all three shows talk about the same thing.

Bits and Pieces:

• çhad mentioned that he is not allowed to discuss side projects; e.g., Main Street Mafia, thefukerton.com, etc,...
• implied that Drab is NOT supposed to be talking on air unless invited...

• today's (7/23) show, opened with AC/DC 'Shook it All Night Long', Arrington started to sing, chad sounded mortified, tried his best not to comment. chad seems to be listening to critiques as today he seems to be more inclined to countering Arrington.

sports talk is just not too compelling and topics seem to be forced, the same stories from show to show.

So Chad can't talk about TheFukerton.com, but LaVar can talk about "The Sideline." Chad needs to ask him if there have been any good stabbings/shootings lately at his place.

I hated the MOM show and I LOVED the Big O and Dukes show. But this is just terrible id much rather listen to THE MOM show all day every day than listen to this new Levar arrington show. Im soo distraught its not even funny. That dana white interview made me soo soo mad. A huge story in MMA broke about 4 hours before dana white came on and chad didnt even get a chance to talk about it because Of levars shilling for tickets and explaining how he can beat rampage jackson.


Chad please quit and do podcasts from your apartment with drab and oscar id be willing to pay for them.

I just feel terrible for Chad. He had such a great show and now he has to put up with this clown. You can just hear the restraint in his voice. I listened just about every minute of every show of BOAD and I can barely listen to one segment of Lavar and Dukes. It's a shame. At least the Junkies are still the same.

I mean seriously this format is awful. If I hadn't of heard Dukes before with O, I would think he was just some side kick stroking the professional football player's ego.

The Sport Junkies are fun and interesting because they are sports but wrap in a lot of other shit. I must admit when they get deep in sports and are talking serious sports I tune out. But that works for a good show.

The show that follows is holy shit....awful.

And then we get to the Lavar show... From the stupid song that says the FANNNNNNN to everythign about the shows.... The junkies would have ripped those shows apart making fun of them if they were on another station and I think even those guys know it.... The big O and dukes show would have made fun of those replacement shows and even though I wasn't a huge fan of the Mike O show, it was still entertaining.

Now I am finding it very hard to listen to 1067 the fan...even that sounds cheesy. The station sounds like amateur hour....but it goes on for the whole god dam day.

I am looking forward to the shows failing, I'd like to see them promote the other shows they had as much as they promote the crap on their now.

Regarding the whole FANNNNN thing, that has been played up by ESPN, and especially Mike Greenburg, in recent years. Like the fans aren't represented and ESPN or WJFK has to somehow become a voice for the fan. I have news for the fans out there....nobody fucking cares what you think. Dan Snyder doesn't give a shit about your tailgates. He doesn't give a shit if you don't like how much he charges for a hot dog, beer or shitty seat. Neither do the Lerners. They don't fucking care.

Ted Leonsis may care that he has a winning team. But he isn't going to cut prices for you, either.

No...fans are not even a consideration. You are all dollar signs. That's it. Nobody likes you. Nobody gives a fuck about you.

To be fair about the Ted and the capitals, the guy hasn't made a profit from the team since he has owned it. Its basically a hobby for him. He has also been very forth coming about all of this. Cut Ted some slack, he at least deserves to break even off his investment.

I read this AM that Loverro is not going to be on the Locker Room with Kevin Sheehan.

T. Loverro is very good on the Sports Reporters as a guest a few times a week. This is only going to hurt Mike Wise more. As many have said, 106.7 the Faaaannnn is amateur hour.

I think if Danny Boy "could" buy JFK, I would so something like this for the day to evening shift:

- Junkies AM 5AM - 10AM
- Doc Walker Show, maybe with Chad Dukes (lockeroom back as it should be) 10AM - Noon
- Sports Fix w/ Loverro and Sheehan (or fire Sheehan and bring in Dukes with Tom) noon to 2pm
- John Thompson show 2pm to 4pm, bring back Al Cokin or something stupid
- Sports Reporters 4pm to 7pm

So I finally found a message board that I could come to to blast this piece of s**t show. I HATED the MoM show, but this is excruciating. LaVarr truly has nothing to say. He stumbles and mumbles through 7 or 8 incoherent sentences to communicate complex things like "Yes" and "No". Like he thinks that since he's on TALK radio he needs to TALK as much as possible, even if it makes no sense. I was stunned the first time I heard the lead in "The LeVarr Arrington Show with chad dukes" . What a slap in the face that is to Chad who has cut his teeth for years in talk radio to be disrespected like that. I even heard a few lead in's that were JUST "The LeVarr Arrington Show!". The sad thing is that Chad is clearly carrying the entire load here as LA has yet to start a conversation. He just responds, in completely uninteresting ways, to Chad's comments. Yesterday's retarded "interview" with Rohan Marely was a joke. All this talk about spiritual cannibas etc... It seemed like LA was just trying to show off that he was friends with this BIG CELEBRITY that no one cares about. How many times did he say "The huge, big monster celebrity Bob Marley..."

Poor Chad and Oscar. I predict that CD will quit before X-mas and hopefully LA will be released too. CD just has to feel disrespected by all this.

The Junkies will not be able to keep 106.7 afloat by themselves.

Did anyone catch the discussion about the UFL? Why did it take a caller, after 20 minutes of conversation, to point out that a Spring/Summer league has NEVER worked? XFL, USFL, WFL, NFL Europe, AFL? So if Arrington can jump into afternoon drive radio, shouldn't Chad be able to start in the Redskins secondary? Arrington may have potential in radio but is the smart thing to make afternoon drive the developmental league of DC sports radio? He needs to listen to more Jim Rome or even Dan Patrick. On that point, a caller yesterday said the USFL was successful until it lost its TV contract in its third season. LaVar then said, "That makes sense. A league like that can only be successful if it doesn't have a TV contract and fans have to pay to go see the games."

So either he didn't understand the point the caller was trying to make, or he was making up shit as he went along, or both.
