Washington Caps - 2016 Post Season Choke
Posted by: Gwaltney Great 8 Hotdogs ()
Date: April 04, 2016 09:38AM

Time has begun to get ready for the 2016 edition of the play-off crash and burn for the Caps.

Will it be a first round collapse, or a second round implosion?

My guess is a first round departure as usual.

I thought hotdogs were baseball?

The CAPs will look good until the last second and then blow all the games.

The collapse has begun. They won't make it through the 1st round - Losers.

Crap. I am betting on a second round choke. They are actually pretty good this year so even though they might try they can't blow the first round. But too many Russians on this team. They gonna choke. Look how good the Pens having been playing now that their Russian is injured.

A repeat of the past umpteen seasons except they are getting a head start on past seasons. The real discussion should be what is the source of the Washington sports franchise curse. My best guess is that it is Dan Snyder's purchase of the Redskins.

The past 5 of the 7 games? You mean the last 7 games since they secured the best regular season record in the league? That's by design, these games are essentially practices to keep everyone warm.

Caps may choke but nobody in this town knows a fucking thing about hockey.

Depends on if they can get past the pens in the second round. the Panthers should be a peice of cake in the third. Playing the stars will be a little tougher.

Success is making it to the third round- the Conference Finsls- further than they've been in the OV era. Honestly would be surprised if they made it that far. The peaked too early and are feeling the pressure.

OV needs to go. The Caps have been waiting for him to preform a miracle, and bring the cup to D.C.

Every year we get to the play-offs, and he refuses to perform. He is nothing more than a money grabbing Russian, and should be sent packing back to his Motherland.

No you are wrong the flyers are nothing but a bad miserable team that is going to beblown out of the playiffs and feel sorry for themselves and then go eat their emotions away buy eating lots of Philly Cheesesteaks and then gaining 30 pounds which will disqualify them from the 2016-2017 season which then prove how great the Capitals are since they will win the playoffs without loosing one playoff game and holding the Stanley Cup high in the air which will then allow them to return to DC with a heros welcome and a grand parade which I will be in attandance at since I am well connected and by far the most respected user on this forum and the entire universe galaxy solar system

The hardest game to win, is the game to win the Cup. After that, the game to win the conference finals, the game to win the conference semis and finally the game to win the conference quarterfinals. PHI is going to bring total douchebaggery on Wednesday night, hopefully, nobody is out for a long stretch.

You guys go ahead and live in the past. No question this team has frittered away series leads. No question they missed an opportunity to close out a series last night. All of that is in the past.

I refuse to get anxious about this team until PHI forces a game 7. There's no way that THAT Flyers squad beats this Capitals squad 4 times in a row. There's just no way. Not this year. It would take multiple injuries and or suspensions to several Caps players.

The Caps outshot the Flyers 44-11 last night and still lost 2-0. For one thing, they took way too many penalties. Defensive play could have been better as well. One has to wonder if the early fight fired up the Flyers despite the shot differential.

At least two other NHL teams lost a playoff series after winning the first three games. The Caps had better turn things around quickly or else they might join this infamous club.

Really haven't watched the Caps since the last lock out and usual lack of urgency they play with, especially in the playoffs. Once again they come out slow and try and win everything in the 3rd period. Once again they run into a hot goalie that is stoning them. Starting to look like the last time they won the President's Cup. Seems like no matter the coach, the same issues still remain.

Only 11 shots by the Flyers is somewhat indicative of playing decent defense, including penalty kill. Especially considering that shot #11 was an empty netter.

On the other hand, I can not remember a single one of the Caps' 44 shots that would have seriously challenged any NHL goaltender. The shot differential is thus a meaningless stat for Game 5.

Haven't watched much of the games, but read a few articles written about them and the Caps players all say generally the same thing "We didn't play at a level we should be. We let the other team have it easy". Same old, same old. They don't much care or else they would do something about it. Sure they may do it for one game, but then they lapse back into the old familiar. Happens every year they are in the playoffs.

This. Right here. All night long.

While it's true that none of these players were here to experience many of the Caps' epic playoff exits, some of which date back 30 years...there are enough players who have played enough playoff hockey in their careers either here in WSH or elsewhere in the NHL who should absolutely understand that each playoff game is 60 minutes in regulation length and requires at least 60 minutes of effort and execution to win. Mike Richards and Jason Williams were brought here as ring knockers to help the core understand what it takes to win the Cup. Those 2 need to call a players only meeting and light a fire under this team.

Everyone saw this Caps roster this season play some of the best hockey that's ever been played by any team in franchise history. I've said it before and I'll say it again...No team is going to win all 82 regular season games and go 16-0 in the playoffs. That's just not possible in today's NHL. It's actually never been possible in the NHL. And it shouldn't be.

Every team is going to lose games. But, for some reason the Caps refuse to bring their best game by every player, every game for the duration of that game. When they bring their best game, nobody will stop them. Again, I get it...do I bring my best "game" to my job everyday? No...nobody does.

But, you have to make the other team earn their victories. Make THEM beat YOU. The losses we've seen from the Caps in the playoffs this season have all been because they didn't play their best for 60 minutes as a team. Now on the one hand, it's been a bit encouraging that they can win games and close out PHI without having played their best hockey...and we all know, and I hope the players do too that if they don't bring their best against PGH for the remaining games in this series, it won't be enough.

Get ready for the same song and dance. CAPS choke in the second round. The "mediocre 8" gets shown up again....and then WaPo writes an article about "hot goalie" stopping the offense.

This team chokes year in and year out. Maybe instead of being at the Russia House or hitting on 19 year olds in Clarendon, OVi could spend some time on his actual craft.

After giving Orpik a 3 game suspension, the 2015-16 season is over for the Crapitals. Besides, Crosby is more marketable!

I wouldn't necessarily call the Caps' season over, but losing Orpik for three games will hurt. I expected a one-game suspension; three seems excessive. Evidently the Caps are still paying for Dale Hunter's hit on Pierre Turgeon 23 years ago.

I know Orpik is a repeat offender with a negative reputation but...if Maata isn't out for 3+ games, this suspension was too much. Bellemare's hit on Orlov in the previous series against PHI was much worse and Bellemare gets a game?

Orpik's hit was a hack attack - he should have gotten 7 games. They may let you have fist fights but hockey is not football - its not about making sport of watching people get crippled.

Repeat offenders get more games and no, it has nothing to do with Dale Hunter. No wonder the Caps will never get past the 2nd round of the Playoffs with a Russkie as their leader.

I hope you're right, but I wouldn't count the Caps out yet. I was at the game on Saturday. Yes, the Capitals looked pathetic in the first two periods, but the Penguins managed only ONE goal. Holtby was lights out. The third period was a different story. My Penguins were lucky to win that game. If the Penguins play the remainder of the series like that third period, and if the Caps do the same, it will be a long series.

I think it will be a 7 game series and the winner is a toss-up. The Caps are the real deal this year but they have the luck to be catching a team playing their best hockey in several years. Pens have been averaging about 5 goals per game the last 2 months and Holtby has held them to 3 and 2. If he keeps that up the Caps have an excellent shot at winning this thing.

Nice to see much less stupid BS like the with Flyers, and the games are more exciting. Who knows.

Fail...Caps have had plenty of non-Russkie leaders in their history and haven't won with a non-Russkie leader either...

I came for the Mittendorf nudes. I stayed for the hockey thread.

Well, if you came for the Mittendorf nudes...I hope you cleaned up after yourself.

Far more chaff than wheat here these days but, I could just imagine you were watching the evening news one night and spit out your bourbon rocks as you turned to Mrs. G&S and said, "An FCFD fire-fighter killed herself over what might have been online slut shaming on a local internet forum? I wonder..."

Your voice trails off as you flip back the head of the Meade bust on your desk in the study, push the button contained inside and sprint to the poles leading down to your mancave. You fire up your multimedia center and the camera pans back as your silhouette is seen staring up at your triple 60" screens and the montage of Mittendorf's nudes cycles frame to frame...your face twisted into a hideous mask of equal parts appall and confirmation of your first instinct as to where it all took place in the virtual world.

Pitts go up 3-1 tonite. This is almost the end for the season for the Caps.

1-7 post-season series record vs. the Pens. Deep trouble if the Caps lose tonight.
