This issue came up before. If cable dies, you're not in the dark....

1) Dialup still works
2) You can piggyback of some elses unsecure WiFi on another network
3) You drive down to Starbucks and tap into their Wifi
4) You use your wireless simcard from Verizon...

I've been having problems with Cox outages for a few weeks. The audio and video go out, sometimes for 10 seconds, sometimes for a couple of hours. The re-fresh doesn't always work. Tech came out and replaced anything that looked even a little off but problem is still happening. I've been through four HD DVRs now. I have one TV with no box and that does not go out. When I bypass the box on this TV it works fine. Cox internet and phone function fine during the TV outages. Mine was out Sunday morning, too, during the British Open. Went to a nearby restaurant and their Cox cable was working but they did not have a DVR. I'm suspecting signal problems that affect the DVRs only. I'm going to change my DVR for a non-recording HD box to see if that solves the problem.

For others that are experiencing similar outages, what equipment do you have?

Well, this is an update to my previous post. Still having problems with cable TV. Two techs have been to the house and can't find the problem. We have the newest DRV available. We have been seeing a lot of Cox trucks in the neighborhood so I'm thinking it is a general problem in our area. Last night (12 Aug) the problem got worse. Apparently there was a general outage. When the cable came back on, the signal kept dropping. The problem is continuing today. We even got a message on the screen that said poor signal quality. Anyone else near the Government Center in Fairfax having this problem?

I got an idea, get FIOS. No problems whatsoever. If none of your shit works with COX, you shouldn't have to pay for downtime. Also, if you insist with Cox, you should able to break your contract for free.

<Sarcasm>
But those Cox commercials say people keep switching back from FIOS because the installation takes too long or they get bored waiting for customer service reps!
</Sarcasm>

I have FIOS and I have to laugh every time those commercials come on. Yes, the installation process sucked a little, but you have to figure that they're installing more than just a cable box, most of the time they have to wire the connections up to the house.

Oh, and having had Cox, their customer service waits aren't any better than those for FIOS.

Cox can eat a bowl of dicks.

When I had cox, I always got shitty reception. I got like a year of free cable from them because lightning blew out my t.v. I argued that the box is supposed to serve as a surge protector, and that it failed. So, free cable for me:)
Granted, that was like 6 years ago.

Can you pick up any QAM channels with FIOS? You basically get what's over air and a couple of public access channels with Cox.
