what is there to do in fairfax villa area?

I'm moving from Falls Church to a detached SFH in Fairfax Villa neighborhood in the near future but every time I drive through there I get a little depressed. It seems like a nice neighborhood but the houses are set so far back. It feels like it's miles from civilization. I'm hoping to hear from people in the neighborhood to get a sense of what it's like, if people are friendly, where the best places to get food are, etc. I'm coming from over 10 years in Falls Church, so this shouldn't be a huge issue but maybe I'm having my midlife crisis or something, just feels like it is not going to be an easy transition.

I know, first world problems and I should quit my whining. Snark away.

Lots to do... go for walks or bike rides. Just be mindful you don't get lost in the twists and turns, the roads that go around in circles. And by all means don't find yourself turned around and walking after dusk anywhere near Byrd/Andes unless you enjoy fending off muggings from the homeless hispanics that live in the woods between FFX Villa Park and the Waples Mobile Home Park.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

The neighborhood pool is pretty nice. My neighborhood didn't have a pool so we were members there. I haven't been there since the 80's so I don't know what it's like now though.

Great things about that neighborhood:

1. Nice pool that is a community hub, along with the neighborhood elementary school

2. Proximity to GMU, which offers a lot of sports, performing arts, and educational events you could attend.

3. Large yards, no major roads cutting through make for bike-friendly, kid-friendly lifestyle.
