I've got an engine light on, which one of the auto parts chains is the one that will come outside and run the free diagnosis scan?

Any Jiffy Lube offers free diagnosis. You can also go to Advance Auto and they will give you the diagnostic computer to run yourself.

I have a portable reader that will pull codes and clear the light, but I don't think I'm going to your house.

Advanced auto parts will let you use thier portable reader free (They hold your drivers license as a deposit). It's real easy to use (They tell you how to do it). They give you a computer printout listing the error code and what you need to do to repair it.

If it is just a "Maintenance Required" light, which Toyota has, it's just their way of trying to get you into the dealership. The light comes on automatically whether or not you need anything done. (I can't recall whether it's mileage or time tripped.) Manuals should tell you how to get the dumb light off. Or you can do a search on the internet. With Toyotas, it can be just pushing in the odometer set button while you turn the key.

O2 sensor? If you just went by the code don't be surprised if the Check Engine light comes back in a few days. The code is a starting point with a diagnostic test procedure, but Advance and Pep Boys are more than happy to sell you a part if that is what you are looking for. In many cases the problem is nothing more than a poorly fitting gas cap which can be had for under $20 instead of the $100 or more for an O2 sensor.
