Unsafe Places in Fairfax County
Posted by: Walking Shopper ()
Date: July 08, 2009 10:34PM

Interesting statement:

"At the moment, hundreds of Fairfax residents don’t feel comfortable walking from their homes to a nearby shopping center for fear of being robbed or assaulted."

See: http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/news/2009/jul/07/take-deep-breath-tough-times-arent-reason-politici/

In daylight? Which shopping centers? Which neighborhoods?

If you feel unsafe walking somewhere, don't walk or be there. If you absolutely have to be there though, get a CHP and be armed.

Two of the rougher sections of the county are the way which they are, due to the implementing of Public Housing in those areas. Portions of the Springfield/Mt. Vernon area, and sections of Herndon/Reston are the roughest in general. I myself used to live in South Reston near Shadowood, and it happens to be one of the higher crime sections. To be honest though, I've spent time in North Jersey and around Richmond, VA, so you'd be hard pressed to tell me that anywhere around here is too rough.

I knew there'd be some anon poster that would post that as soon as I hit post message...congrats!

Sure, they would work, but it's DAMN hard to find a holster big enough to conceal carry a police officer... If they made one, I'd sell my Glock and buy a cop to carry around right away.

Use your brain, CHP in this instance means Concealed Handgun Permit.

Fairfax County is no different than the rest of the country. More specificlly, the black and hispanic areas are the most dangerous. No surprise.

If you are reffering to the mclean bank robber that was a HS student in Arlington, you are wrong. He was killed in North Arlington near the Mclean border.

Don't know about the bank robber, but there was this:

FAIRFAX, Va. - More than 30 people are under arrest after Fairfax County Police broke up an "underground criminal economy" at a local shopping mall.

The crime ring operated in and around the the Build America Shopping Center in the 3800 block South George Mason Drive in the Skyline area of Bailey's Crossroads.

There isn't really anywhere that's really unsafe within Fairfax County. Try some of the rougher areas of southeast DC if you need a real wake up call on a dangerous area.

+1 - Except for the Glock comment!

My G19 is my car gun, but I carry two Kahrs at all times. Cops are too slow to react. By the time I got the cop out of my holster, he would still need to aim and we all know cops cant hit shit.

There's bad by Fairfax standards and there's bad by any standard.

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/news-releases/2008/061208crimerisesandfallsin2007.htm

Fairfax County:
Population 1,015,302 (Wikipedia)
Murders for 2006-07 32
Rape for 2006-07 168
Aggravated Assault for 2006-07 673

Washington, DC:
Population 591,833
Murders for 2006 alone 195
Rape for 2006 alone 185
Aggravated Assault for 2006 alone 4,589

Richmond:
http://www.disastercenter.com/virginia/crime/13986.htm
Population 195,271 (2005)
Murders for 2005 alone 85
Rapes for 2005 alone 80
Aggravated Assault for 2005 alone 1,045

Perhaps this is why many Fairfaxians aren't panicking about crime. Are the folks who're proclaiming Fairfax a crime hotbed Cassandras ahead of their time, or Chicken Littles who get scared from reading the front page of the local newspapers?

Any place can be unsafe if you're a woman walking alone. Baileys Crossroads is poor/shitty and old town Herndon can be sketch although the police are everywhere.
Some parts of Springfield (Lee High School/Springfield Mall area) are sketch.

No area is "that bad" is ffx county.

You people need to get real. I grew up a few miles away from the shit hole known as Camden, NJ. Seriously, you don't go anywhere near a place like that even in the daytime. There is nothing in Fairfax County that comes anywhere close to the ghettos of Camden, Newark, Chicago or Miami.

Now you're talking slummin and dangerous. Camden/Newark etc. Even Harlem/Bronx aren't as bad as that anymore.

Rt. 1 used to have some sketchy spots but even now that has calmed down alot. Anywhere else in No.Va., you got to be kidding. Definitely haven't been to a real hood if you think this area is dangerous.

Worst places in FFX I'd have to identify as 1) Cullmore, and 2) Route 1 near Hybla Valley (Lockheed Blvd).

I usually grab one of my old thrift store wallets and put in a few of those credit cards that come in the offers from the banks with the numbers 1234... on them and take strolls in the bad areas of fairfax like Virginia Run in the evening from 9pm to 1am. I usually put a $10 or $5 in there and sometimes for shits and grins I put in some of my girl's Euros... these dumb asses always try to give me shit about Euros and I just tell them it's money that I'm holding for this Spanish (from Spain not to be confused with shit from central or south america) chick I'm banging..... sometimes I think I should just take a tazer or something and blast them right at first... but who knows.. if I miss, I might end up being somebody's bitch...

My old man warned me about Camden many years ago, he said it made Richmond, VA look tame. He also said that Newark made NYC look alright, and that was back in the 70's/80's (He once had to go into the South Bronx though, and he described it as a warzone).

I have to tell you though, I've been used to some real rough places growing up, but that doesn't negate the fact that there are areas in FFX. that you simply don't want to wander around at night. I'm glad that Fairfax doesn't resemble modern Petersburg, VA, or some really poor, rundown area, because those places are sad (Being around those type of locales always made me feel extremely fortunate to live up here). Be glad that you don't have to worry about your little siblings or children being shot in broad daylight for a pair of sneakers, or that you don't have to worry about your folks getting carjacked.

Remember that Virginia is an "open carry" state. You do not need a permit to carry a firearm as long as it is clearly visible.

An armed society is a polite society.

There is plenty of empirical evidence why the 2nd Amendment is more necessary now than ever!

Oakton. You gotta be straight up hard to roll into O town. I had to check myself before I wriggidy wrecked myself. And don't even get me started on Great Falls player. I laugh at all these minorities around here that actually try (on purpose) to appear as if they are from the ghetto. Go try your little act in LA or Detroit and see how "hard" you little gangsters really are. News flash: You don't intimidate me when you are driving your 95 caprice donk down 123 in one of the richest, un-gangster towns in the country. Now pull your fucking pants up, buy a shirt that fits, figure out the correct way to wear a hat, and cut the ignorance out of your voice because guess what? YOU LIVE IN NORTHERN VA! You just look and sound retarded to the rest of us.

Don't hate tha playa, son, hate tha game! Shit, ma homie just texted that he got busted by tha po-po for window tint and they found the dime he was bringin over hur. Now ima has to roll out to O town ma damn self en see if I can shake down a high school kid for there drugz. Whyza nigga always gotta hustle?

ugh. Just go to the McDonalds in the Oakton Shopping Center after 3 pm. They have "rap battles" sometimes. Ever heard a 14 year old white kid who lives in a mcmansion try to rap about life on the streets and how hard/thug he is? I couldn't help but laugh while I was waiting in line for my 10 pc. nuggets w/ dbl cheese burger. They didn't take kindly to my laughing...but what did I have to be afraid of? Their father would purposefully mis-manage my investments?

The Toll Road is some magical barrier that keeps all the filth north.

To recap:
Oak Hill = Safe
Herndon = Unsafe
Oak Hill /= Herndon

Though anyone who snuck into this country illegal should be ousted, the average Jose day laborer isn't so evil, just there. I won't hire em and have fired a company contracted to mine because they did. It was in our contract to have legal US residents for employees. Anyway, I have had thoughtful discussions in Spanish with some of the guys that are illegal to kind of get a feel for what they are about and aside from sending money back to 'home', they tend to like a beer or few like many others do. Still, illegal is illegal, screw em. Send em back.

HOLY CRAP! HUNDREDS!

...in a county of a million people. Even if it's 900 residents, that's 0.09% of the population.

If only hundreds of Fairfax county residents "don't feel comfortable"...I think we're doing pretty darn good.

There is public housing in Fairfax. It is in the form of section 8 housing. There were at least a couple in my old neighborhood. The owner rents their place and the rent is guaranteed by the government. The renter pays what they can afford. Sometimes the renter is paying very little.

The renters that we knew were not the kind of people you want for neighbors. We moved.

Unsafe places in Fairfax? LoL!

I dont think anyone commenting has ever been to a truly unsafe neighborhood. One where cops turn to the right when the open air drug market is obviously on the left with the 20+ dudes standing around yelling "rocks, blows, green"

A neighborhood where it is not at all uncommon to see guns resting on the top of tires of parked cars (so no one has possession of the weapon until it is needed)

Grow the fuck up and get some balls fairfaxians

To all the people who were citing Camden, NJ and other places OUTSIDE Fairfax County, read the title of this thread again. It reads, "Unsafe Places In Fairfax County" not "All the Unsafe Places in the World".

No one disputes that compared with Camden, NJ Fairfax County is safe! But that wasn't the OP's point. Try to keep up.
