Can someone please explain why the medians in Burke and other areas are so nicely taken care of? You drive anywhere and the grass and "wild flowers" are 3 feet tall, but as soon as you enter Burke it is nicely mowed and edged. Through the weekend last weekend they had 6 foot flags in the median every 100 feet, real flags not those cheap hand held ones. Does Burke pay higher taxes for this because it sure isnt the most affluent area?
There are gnomes residing nearby that come out at night and do landscaping, their names are Jose, Pedro and Manuel. If you turn on the lights they scurry back to the woodline,

It is not the state doing this mowing. I suspect some hoa's are paying their landscapers extra to mow the medians adjacent to their developments. I have seen this done on Rolling Rd near Interstate Van lines. As a resident of Burke, I appreciate their efforts. I just wish the state would do more.

I can understand their (the state) not mowing the medians to save money, but what really bugs me is the conditions of the drain openings. They are so overgrown it is hard to see how they can properly drain the run-off during heavy rains.
The Burke Center HOA collects dues from the area homeowners and those funds are used to pay for public area maintenance among other things. It is an example of what can happen when you belong to an HOA that has the ability to bill residents for upkeep.
