VDOT pre-treating 395 for a dry weekend

Heading from Springfield to Shirlington, I just passed about a dozen VDOT trucks pre treating all lanes of 395 north. I'm not sure what weather forecast they are operating off of, but this weekend is supposed to be dry.

Seems to me that this type of mobilization costs a lot of money. Perhaps they are tying to get ahead of the Monday/Tuesday storm without staffing on the weekend? I'm miffed, as is Bob Imler on WTOP.

Actually started sleeting late Friday night, early Saturday morning in my area. Also had snow flurries in my area Sat mid morning.
