@fairfaxpolice: College Tuition Money Rep
orted Stolen in Purse Theft. Can you ID this suspect?
https://t.co/2JFpYoIOt9 https://t.co/rfcR2Jdm5VPolice are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who allegedly stole a purse containing a large sum of cash from a Dunkin’ Donuts store, at 6138 Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church. The victim, a 51-year-old woman, and her 18-year-old daughter were in the store on Sunday, January 10 around 11:50 a.m. They stopped there for breakfast before heading off to the daughter’s university out of state.

Shortly after leaving, the victim realized she left her purse on the back of a chair. When they returned to the store, the purse was missing. The purse contained cash intended for the daughter’s college tuition. Store video showed a woman, who was inside the store, remove the purse from the chair. She left the business and got into a dark-colored SUV.

The suspect was described as white, between 30 and 40 years old and about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build. She had long, brown hair and wore a light-colored jacket and dark-colored pants. The vehicle is believed to be a 2009 to 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor. (In the photo below, the sign is on the door, not the vehicle.)

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at http://www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

Anyone dumb enough to pay tuition with cash, or to leave it laying around, shouldn't waste their time in college. They should be working on the Hildebeast's election campaign.

If you took something that doesn't belong to you then its theft....

But. Karma's a bitch, and the person who forgot it probably is deserving, and the person who took it will get theirs...

I would imagine that the woman and her child are from a culture that deals in cash. This must be devastating. The woman who stole the purse sounds like a reasonably well off suburban mom. I can't imagine how completely devoid of a moral compass you'd have to be to do this.

A very good reason to 86 your culture's reliance on cash once you're here. Good luck getting it back once its left behind/stolen.

So many things with this. From the lady leaving her purse behind with $10,000 to what school is $10,000?

So since the money is tuition it is a terrible crime? As if $10,000 found would be ok if it was for another cause?

I am sorry, just not buying much of this.

Penn State 2016 calendar shows classes began Jan 11th. Most all colleges expect tuition to be paid by the first day of classes. The purse was stolen on Jan 10th.

So yes, the classes begin Jan 11th, so this was before Spring classes started. But how many women, much less an 18 year old would be comfortable walking around with $10k in their purse?? WTF, what parent would allow their 18 year old kid carry around $10k in cash? If I was carrying $10k in cash, I would be way nervous and most likely also be carrying a weapon. But I would also have it stashed in the trunk of the car in a hard place to find so even if the car was broken into, the cash would be the LAST thing found.

But come on, HOW MANY colleges accept cash?? Why would ANYONE bring $10K cash to the Bursars Office?? Colleges and most large companies/institutions are NOT set up to accept cash, much less $10K.

Out of state tuition is approximately $47.5k. So for the semester $23.75k.

This girl was 18, so she would have been a Freshman and maybe returning after the Winter break.

My guess is there is something fishy here about the entire situation. This family that had the purse stolen needs to be looked into very closely. I have made numerous tuition payments and I can tell you I have no idea where I would even find the Bursar's Office on campus, all payments have been made either by mail or electronic transaction. Additionally even if tuition payments are late, the schools love this because they charge interest and they make money off of this.

I call BS or something big time fishy about $10k in cash. $10k in $100's would not be took large physically, but a mix of $100's and $20's could be physically pretty large.

If the cops had stopped her car, they would have claimed it was drug money and seized it.

In the unlikely event that they recover the money, she won't see it back. Unless the money can be proved to be legit AND (emphasis on AND), there is a huge media outcry.

Who the hell carries around that amount of cash to pay college tuition? Ever hear of a credit card or a check? How about electronic payment from your checking account? Fucking morons!!!!!

The tuition rate at an out of state school has to be at least $1,000 per credit hour. If the daughter is only taking 6 hours you should just send her ass to a community college if she isn't more motivated than that. Her fucking degree will cost over $250,000 at that pace, and it will take her 10 years to get to the required 120 credit hours to graduate.

This is why you are a Mason Student!

Depends on the school.

Some schools, typically the smaller schools will De-register you from a class or classes if you are not financially current.

This is an incentive to get the bills paid and to put the seat back in circulation for others to choose. This way the school does not loose out.

Each school is a bit different, however, the larger state schools have a far greater fudge factor.

How do they prove that there was 10K in that purse? I don't think there was 10K in that purse. The whole story is way off.

The chick in the minivan is in on it.

It is all a ploy to get people to feel sorry for the victim and kick in tuition money.

Hilarious responses from people that can't fathom having $10,000 in cash and the guy who would be scared to carry the money and wouldn't know how to find the bursars office. What a sheltered snowflake.

No one is going to take $10k in cash. Even banks don't like to do it and they like money.

There is no place that won't take cash. Filling out a form or two isn't a big deal for most places. Almost anyone would also gladly take cash over losing 3% to a credit card transaction. I know I know. Most of you also can't fathom a credit card limit over $10,000 and probably just use credit on your bank debit card. It's a thing though. Writing checks or doing some sort of EFT isn't the only thing out there. Brb paying my tuition in cash.
