80's Movies in Rosslyn
Posted by: FUNdamental ()

So, I took my oldest son to Rosslyn’s free outdoor movies to see Top Gun Friday night. I thought it was a family event, but boy was I wrong. It was a place for arrogant ex frat boys and single women to hook up-like a bar.

This is what I saw

A) Guys walking around being goofy trying to pick up woman.
B) 20 something women openly discussing how drunk they were the night before.
C) Men, smelling like wine spritzers, passed out drunk on the lawn (winespritzers?)
D) Group of men yelling “Take it off” whenever a woman walked by, or Kelly McGillis appeared on screen.
E) Guys walking around in flight suits, and women with “Maverick” printed on their tight t-shirts strutting around the perimeters, wanting to bee noticed.
F) Women hooting and howling during the Tom Cruise shirtless volley ball scene.

A family evening it was not. Top Gun certainly attracted the 20 something bar crowd and some elements of Late Night Shots. My question is; this Friday they are showing The Karate Kid; do you think it will be safe to take the kids, or will TKK attract the same type of lushes, flirts, and ilmannered longing ex frat boys?

Well, Top Gun is sort of a macho movie, and Karate Kid isn't very much not. However, I'd be prepared for at least a small amount of the same kind of conduct. You just know that you're going to hear someone offer to show a memeber of the opposite sex their "Crane Technique" at some point.

I'm sure he didn't want his post to get lost in the flood of messages that continuously flow through the Arlington forum.

I think the latest Arlington thread is the one about Whitlow's moving to Wilson.

Are you serious? Top Gun is a little homoerotic, but winespritzers? That's too much.

WTF? Top Gun is not the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Again, a little to gay.

Like any of those fat hefers could land him if he wasn't gay and in a sham marriage to the carrier of L. Ron Hubbard's seed.

Where was this? Sounds awesome! Arlington preppy babes are always a good lay.

I was hoping FUNdamental would post how frustrated he was at an event over the weekend. One can only wonder how anal retentive he is and how much shit is backed up.

Anybody want to sacrifice a babe for FUNdamental to get laid? Sounds like he hasn't had sex in years and is very frustrated.

You seem to have a lot of problems at free outdoor shows. (Just saying...)

However, you combine Friday night, Top Gun, and Arlington, you are going to bring out a certain segment of the douchebag population. Karate Kid, I fear, is going to be just as bad. The same guys that idolize Tom Cruise in TG are going to mock Daniel-san in TKK. Drunken ex-fratboys being what they are, there may also be drunken karate competitions.
It's sad that not much seems to be done to control this sort of behaviour, because you are right, this sort of activity should be a fun, family experience.

I was once threatened by a guy who quote "...took 6 months of karate, 5 years ago." He was apparently threatned because I had politely asked his g/f to move over at the bar so I could pay for my beer.

No surprise, he had two popped collars and wore sandals.

Popped collars are so stupid.

LOL, FUNdamental.

I looked at the event flyer and certainly does imply a young family type crowd. However, that area is central yuppie drunkville. I know a ton of people who live in that area and their basic concern is working in DC at some elite business during the day and visiting the Rosslyn bars and festivals at night weekends.

Seeing as Thursday night was a party night and Friday they had the day off, not surprised. You also have take in account that they probably had a lot of friends in visiting for the 4th.

From what I remember, Top Gun is not exactly a "family" film. Instead of griping about it on the FU, exercise better judgment as a parent. It sounded like quite the party, and I'm sorry I missed out! I think you might be just a teesny bit jealous.

Rosslyn/Clarendon is pretty much a 20-something paradise these days.
