Thai food recommendations
Posted by: gimmie ()

I am looking for some recommendations for really good Thai food. I went to a Thai restaurant recently and it was not very good. I am wondering if anybody has any recommendations for really good quality Thai food. Thanks.

Maybe you should tell us the "not so good" place so we don't recommend it and/or cab avoid it ourselves. I too would like to find a good Thai place.

Raibeng on Rt. 7 in Bailey's is fantastic.

Lemongrass on Van Dorn in Alexandria is also very good.

Thai Cafe, next to Springfield Mall is the best by far in this area. Looks like a hole in the wall place, but it's damn good!

^ +1 Drunken Noodles are awesome here.

In Tysons area
http://www.pilinthai.com
Less formal and cheaper than Busara, can be crowded at lunch.
If it's a dish with basil or Pad Gra in the name, it's seriously good.

OP here. Thank you for the recommendations! I will try these out.

I don't want to name the restaurant that was not very good--I would rather just find a really good place and it sounds like there are quite a few not far from me.

They have got many Thai Dishes in Boxes you just Whip Em Up..

Serious the stuffs not bad. I had some good Pad Thai carry out at a place in Springfield on Backlick Road, The center on the same side just a bit south of the Toyota Place that's gone.

Also there's a Thai place at Fair City Mall near the Pizza Place inside That's nice.

Okay, since my original post, I have eaten at Natta Thai in Vienna and Pilin off of rt. 7. Both were excellent. I have taken note of the other recommendations and will be trying them when I am craving Thai food.

Does anybody know if there are any Thai grocery stores locally? I am not talking about the big Asian grocery stores such as Hmart but the smaller 'mom and pop' stores?

Thank you.

Pilan Thai has gone WAY down hill many years ago.

Went for Lunch a few months ago and it seems much of what I ordered was pre-cooked or maybe frozen.

Thai Noy for Thai

Peter Changs for Chinese

Both in Arlington

Second vote for Thai Cafe in Springfield, always great.

If you want something really interesting check out ThaiBox/Le Thai Cuisine in Lorton. It's buried back in an industrial park off Telegraph near Rt.1. Thai with a plethora of Cajun, Croele, and Caribbean fusion options. Jerk Chicken Red Curry is pretty bitchin.

Its a Vietnamese place they have many similar items. In the center on Backlick Road by the Burger King near Lynbrook Ele. School. Theres a big International store there too. This place is a mom and pop type place. There's a Vietnamese Pho place there too that's good.

Rule of thumb: there are never any good restaurants in Arlington. All the food is cooked for dopes.

You CLEARLY have NO IDEA WTF you are talking about.

But stay in Fairfax, too bad for you Arther Treachers and Long John Silvers has closed so not sure where you are going to head now.

Maybe Hooters or Fuddruckers.

It's formerly called Tara Thai, but it's now disassociated with the brand of Tara Thai so now it's just called Tom Yum Thai.

Get the Golden Crispy Chicken from then, it's 10/10.

Why is it with the Thai places around here food always comes in teensy portions?

Go to Thai Noy in Arlington, you will not be disappointed with the portion size or the quality and taste.

Recently went and tried Kob Kun Fine Thai Cuisine in Oakton. Portions were small, food was not bad, but I prefer Thai Noy way better. Kob Kun seemed to have a lot of curry based dishes and the menu was a bit confusing the way they had entrees where you pick the meat. The layout was not very clear on the menu.

Thai Noy has far more choices and they will doctor things up if you ask, things like adding green beans or asparagus and so forth.

Thai Noy hasn't been good since about 8 years ago.

Bangkok Golden isn't far from Thai Noy, but the food is way better. Easier parking options too.
