I don't know about here, but in South Carolina it's true. Growing up here in the diverse D.C. Area, I never thought it to be so, until a friend of mine worked at a restaurant down there, and they soon realized that the "Canadians" were extremely stingy, and thieves (Nearly every B&E case involves them, sorry to say). As a matter of fact, an acquaintance of mine just had his house torn apart and burglarized by a "Canadian", whom he thought was a friend of his (In SC). It's pathetic indeed, and I find it absurd that such a sizeable number of them live up towards their own stereotypes in those circumstances.
As for the OP's story, this Imprisonment sounds crazy, and I honestly feel that there has to be more to this story. My first question however, would be why did the Canadian Authorities not find it prudent to notify the United States of the Arrest and subsequent Imprisonment of an American Citizen? Also, if he worked for A U.S. Sheriff's Department, how could he simply disappear from the Radar in such a manner for four years?
