Fairfax Jail no longer serves "The Loaf"??
Posted by: Sheriff Joe ()

Say it ain't so!!!! I heard that the sheriff was going to stop serving "the loaf" to inmates who break the rules. Does anyone know if this is true?

For those of you expecting a crowd of constipated vegetarian felons for dinner this holiday, here's the Fairfax County Prison's recipe for The Loaf, courtesy of Newsday.com:

The Fairfax County, Va., Adult Detention Center's recipe for The Loaf

120 slices of wheat bread
25 cups grated nondairy cheese
10 cups raisins
4 cups vegetable oil
15 cups grated carrots
15 cups well-drained spinach
60 cups vegetarian beans
8 cups tomato puree
15 cups nondairy powdered milk
12 cups instant potatoes
1 pound brown sugar
1 cup white sugar

1. Mix.
2. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.

Makes 60 servings.

Jail is meant to bad.

Not all people who go there are bad*, but all people who go there will realize that it's a bad place.

*
Some people in jail are not bad people; they're either innocent, or a good person who just did a dumb thing

Non dairy cheese makes completely no sense. Cheese by definition is made with dairy product. It should be called imitation cheese. One of the local bars near the jail should offer the loaf.

The "Loaf" will sustain Human Life..But Even I thought it was Over the Top. For baddies, there was a 600 calorie diet that the state was Ok with years ago. Feed to those in isolation cells for punishment.

Day 1 several slices of bread and all the water you can drink

Day 2 a grapefruit several slices of bread and all the water you can drink

Day 3 The same as Day 1 . Then on day 4 a regular meal 1500-2000 or so calories and then day 5 back to the diet at Day 1. They could only do this so many days..

The Loaf every day would be a dream meal compared to that.

Anybody need a Diet?? It does work..

DAJAX

I'd prefer the Mexican system where the inmates get no food unless the family brings it. Let the flunkies starve.

Solidarity is right. The bread and water diet as punishment was popular in the good old days. The courts ruled that this could be considered cruel and unusual punishment so facilities had to cease the practice. Coincidentally, Fairfax jail was the last in Virginia to cease the practice in the late seventies.

I prefer keeping the inmates weak so they cannot overpower the guards.

Talked to somebody who works at the jail and yes The Loaf has been taken off the menu. Too many complaints, which leads to legal issues, etc.

The residents have more rights than the people they killed, raped, and robbed, you understand.

The Loaf was used as punishment.

It's absurd.

Feed the prisoners normal food, and punish, appropriately, without mixing basic needs into it.

I'm Conservative, but if this Democrat Sheriff gets this, then I'm with her 100%.

The nutritionist said they could live for quite a while on The Loaf. Somebody threw a bunch of stuff together, it stuck when baked, and they created something to eat.

Great meal for constipated felons.

The recipe doesn't sound too bad actually, and the photo is not unappealing. It would be better with real milk and cheese though.

Just divide the recipe into a smaller batch.

About 1/10th the recipe would be doable.

You could then cut it to 1/20th.

I would suggest using real dairy cheese and milk, and perhaps adding additional spices, onion, garlic, etc.

I agree that using real dairy products would be an improvement. What really makes this bad is the addition of the raisins--I really hate raisins and cannot see how the addition of them helps this "loaf".

Raisins---yuck. :(

Yes, use real products.
I like raisins, but it is an odd addition. Considering it is a fruit, that rounded out the concoction.

Let us know how it goes. Post a picture. Stock up on toilet paper.

Corn and raisins can be consumed over and over.

I'm not sure how Charles is doing on this home economics project--hopefully he will post an update and pictures. I am sure he is making a much smaller batch because the original recipe is just too much.

I put the 1/10th amounts in parentheses. Approximately. I don't think it will make a huge difference. You will need to weigh the brown sugar. You can cut those amounts in half to make an even smaller batch.

You can try this for Easter.

Indeed, this is true. And rest assured that nobody that goes there comes out better.

Mistreatment and rape by the guards makes people mean. They come out with a will to get even.

What???????

I think the goal is to not make it too pleasant for two reasons-
They have done something really bad.
You want them to not come back.
We are paying for this.

Who goes to jail because they have been really good?
