Cox's Movies Under the Stars, WTF?
Posted by: FUNdamental ()
Date: June 28, 2009 12:52PM

So at the Cox Movies under the Stars last night a family came in and plopped themselves down as close to the 40 ft screen as possible. the laid down their several ground cloths and pillows set up their three coolers, and climbed under their blankets and proceeded to chow down on their snacks, emulating being at home, in bed watching a movie. Should there be laws as to how to behave, and not to behave, at public performances? I mean, sloth and gluttony come to mind here, don't they?

So go sit somewhere else if you can't stand the look of them. Who cares what others do?

When they present glutinous behavior to the community, isn't it a bad and dangerous presentation for their and others' children?

Maybe people saw that and said, "Man, how disgusting!" and vowed to themselves "I'm gonna start eating more moderate portions from now on". What makes you think more people would want to follow their lead? I think your apparent resentment is more dangerous.

Fun- don't you know... They were pretending they were on the lawn at Wolf Trap watching Chris Issak doing an impromptu performance on the pavement. Did the movie presenters have a large golf cart to haul their fat asses and their mounds of doritos from the parking lot to the screen?

It's a free movie. Outside. With bugs and rednecks. Who cares?

The long term memories would be the family in the dead of night hauling all the crap they bought with them back to the car, as well the digestive problems the next day from all the crap they ate. What does"dyfunctional" mean? Is the book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" on your summer reading program? If not, I "definitely" recommend its addition.

No, but I can see hordes of weight challenged people at Cox's main offices tomorrow, Baconator in hand, demanding that additional service for next year's film festival.

Those bastards! I would of walked right up to them and said, "You are not suppose to be comfortable here!" "You see my kids back there, I didn't even bring a blanket for them to sit on!"

I brought a groundcloth, had them play at the playground beforehand, bought them lighted fans from the KoC,and bought popcorn & candy from the hospital vendor. I did what was expected as a good father. I did not teach them that bad public behavior was acceptable.

I think I've heard this tune before... Nice to know you are enjoying lawn seats theses days.

From FUNdamental posted about a year ago on WolfTrap lawn seats:

Lurker, you mave hit on an important point; perhaps many of these lawn people have big buttocks that don’t fit comfortably into the pavilion seats.

You know, when I walk in to wolf trap, I always see the same scenario, two college age kids on a date and were excited to see a concert. They show up 45 minutes early with their lawn tickets, and are horrified at the fact that in front of them there is no real estate to be had except for on the hill behind the side walk or on the side were there is no line of sight.

They look at those in full reclining mode on their blankets in front of them, people that have been beached like that for hours drinking and gorging in the sun, and they think to themselves "lawn people suck!," and vow to never to be a lawn person again.

We in the pavilion, will welcome these lawn converts as long as they play by the pavilion rules-no gorging, no reclining, if you have to use the rest room, wait till a song is over and there is applause before you leave your seat or return back to your seat, no dancing after the third song.

We in the pavilion try to be civilized, and courteous to the people behind us and around us, as well as the performers on stage in front of us. Lawn people , on the other hand, feel eating and drinking needs to be at least 50% of the concert experience.

In literature, they call that sloth and gula (gluttony).

I have read and reread your original post, and I fail to see the "bad public behavior". They set up blankets and coolers, laid back, and quietly enjoyed snacks and a movie. You accuse them of sloth - would you prefer that they jogged around the area while the movie was playing?

Personally, I would find these people much less distracting during the show than your kids with their *lighted* fans.

And the bad behavior that should be outlawed is what, exactly?

The fans were sold on the premises by the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children staff as a fundraiser for the hospital. You are a real piece of crap for chastising those working for charity and those supporting that charity.

FUNdamental I hope you called the police and alerted them to this absurb behavior. The nerve of those fuckers!

I don't see anything wrong. Now if their kids were running around screaming in people ears, trampling blankets and knocking over coolers I might have a problem.

On behalf of all the LPA(Lawn People Association) members we would like to formally to apologize for the behavior of the individuals at the Cox's Movies Under the Stars.

Please understand this was not an LPA sanctioned event. We are currently investigating the incident, but with the Fourth of July rapidly approaching and many events to monitor we will be delayed in inital finding report.

Here are our suggestions for you on the Fourth:

1) In order to avoid any Fourth of July incidents, STAY THE FUCK HOME!

It's funny how shocked people get when they go to outdoor events with lots of people. If you want to control your environment, stay home. That's why I haven't been to a movie theater in ten years and just built my own at home. But in an outdoor event where you can move around I don't know why people insist on hanging out near people they don't like. I LOL at the mental strain people subject themselves to, just take a deep breath, relax, and move somewhere else and enjoy the rest of your night if you don't want to sit next to "them," whoever "them" is in your head.

FUNdamental, you're a complete dumbass. It was a fucking FREE movie!!!

What exactly do you expect from a free movie? You outta be counting your blessings that there are so many family friendly activities in the area (and for no cost either).

If these folks really bothered you so much you should have moved elsewhere.

So tell us, what else went wrong with your evening? Did you get totally pissed off when the wind blew around? Angry that an airplane overhead distracted you from the screen?

Also-you complain that the other family is basically demonstrating sloth and gluttony yet you bought your own kids popcorn and candy??!!? Doesn't exactly sound like you've got the healthiest family in the world.

I honestly feel kinda bad for your kids to have a father like you.

lol...fundamental has really started a commotion. so what if he was disgusted with the fat dredges of humanity which made up of this crowd. Maybe his family is very attractive and in shape - if so, then his reaction is acceptable

i can just see it now...fun's family, sitting on their blanket, enjoying their candy and lighted fans. Indian style, whispering quietly amongst themselves. All the while there is some obese, distasteful, borderline redneck family spread out on some ratty blanket. Father probably had his ass crack showing. Junior probably eats two happy meals a day. Mother wearing capris from wal-mart with ultra-stressed spaghetti straps pinning down her enormous, yet disgusting rack. Talking right up until the opening of the movie. Showing surprising restraint in not hooting, grunting or farting. Yet still being annoying, and noisy, crinkling bags of chips, smacking their gums, eating their "brought from home" snacks -- probably too poor to even purchase concessions from the local vendors.

i get it...i totally get it.

You know nothing about me, nipple-dick. I have no problem with charity, or those who support charities. If you knew anything about me, you'd know that. But your holier-than-thou, sanctimonious attitude has blinded you to the fact that you are totally intolerant of anyone who enjoys an experience in a way that is different than yours.

Lighted objects are a distraction during a movie. The fact that they were sold by a charity does not change that.
