It may not be currently active, but it's definitely happening at some point tonight. Thanks for posting that. Answer your phone next time, hooker.

I just saw some report on TV comparing a person texting while driving and a person with exactly the legal limit of alcohol.

The texter performed worse than the drunk driver in all tests.

When are we going to see text messaging checkpoints?

It would be really easy. When you get to the checkpoint, you have to hand your phone over to the police, who will be able to look at the text messaging inbox and outbox to determine if you have texted in the last (whatever time interval) and then could arrest you on the spot and take you to jail. Then, when you go to court, your sentence should be harsher than that of a first and second offense drunk driver.

Driving east on BCP I saw them setting up around 9:30pm and I thought that there was a major accident. Drive by again around 10:30 and still just a lot of flashights and the cops directing traffic were tough to see.

This is the first time I saw one of these and was wondering why they barricaded the intersection with Roberts. Is that just to make the flow of vehicles easier to manage? The checkpoint seemed to be mainly at that intersection, but there was another series of cones and FCPD vehicles near Terra Centre which was confusing.

I used to think these check points were bullshit, but really, driving drunk is about the most stupid thing you can fucking do. You should be caught and arrested.

It wouldn't fucking surprise me, but how could they prove you texted while driving? I never text while driving (fuck, I don't even like talking on the phone while driving), but have texted at a red light.

I agree there are a lot of loopholes and caveats.

I too hate to talk on the phone while driving. Mostly because I actually use my turn signals, and have a manual transmission.

Maybe they should just outlaw automatic transmissions, that way many people wouldn't even be able to drive, and 99% of those that could would not even try to text message, and the few that did would stand out like sore thumbs.

Of course, in High School, I was able to pack a bowl or roll a joint while driving a stick shift, but I would only do that while driving around a secluded back country road, not in traffic or anything.

So will the group now be called MATD??? Mother Against Texting Drivers?

If the stats are correct, texting driver will kill 7 times that of drunk driver. We already have an example where a train wreck occured because of texting.

Maybe we should setup video cameras in our cars to record soccer Moms in minivans on their phones and then call them in.

These checkpoints are complete bull shit and the excuse of stopping drunk driving is an embarrassment. When are we going to realize that if we give up liberty for security we end up losing both. These checkpoints are straight out of nazi Germany. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWAB_OaAprQ Watch this video the guys voice is kind of annoying, but he makes some good points.

What, were you one of the three out of hundreds that got caught last weekend?

I agree they are a waste of resources and inefficient, and that the "if we catch even one it is a success!" blather is bullshit in the face of targeted enforcement which has much more bang for the buck. But I think it's a far cry from Nazi Germany.
