FAA Change Causes Recent Uptick in Fairfax Aircraft Noise

Have you noticed the significant recent increase in local aircraft noise by the lines of planes from Reagan that now transit directly over Mt Vernon, Springfield, Burke and Fairfax as they climb out at low altitudes. Apparently FAA decided without any public input to please the airlines by allowing aircraft to save fuel by climbing out over heavily populated neighborhoods rather than being required to travel down the Potomac River while climbing and then turning at a higher altitude as was the old rule. On Google search for "FAA NextGen Aircraft Noise". Way to go FAA pinheads.

This is to reduce the carbon footprint left by the travelers flying away from this area. We all need to do our part to reduce the effects of global warming, and the extra noise is your way to do your duty to benefit the global community.

We had a steady line of jets coming over Burke - where can you complain about jet noise - why did FAA allow jets to fly over neighborhoods?

Living very close to 2 busy airports as we do in Fairfax County, there might a chance you will hear airplanes as they fly in and out of either DCA or IAD.

A lot of the older MD-80s go in and out of Reagan - those babies are loud!

You people should be thankful for the noise in my view. Maybe it'll drown out all your dogs barking all the time. :-)

I'm in Reston and my complaint is the large number of low-flying helicopters. I rarely notice any noise from airplanes.

FAA now allows planes to turn earlier and at a lower altitude causing them to climb over Springfield and Burke rather than going further South. Seems like they come across Edison HS toward South County HS. Saves fuel but is disruptive to neighborhoods below.

Its cheaper for the airlines to cut across neighborhoods at low altitude rather than climbing out over the Potomac river - doubt homeowners have any chance to overturn the new FAA flight pattern from Reagan.
