Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
So On Friday my Daughter said her teacher told the class that "His done teaching His not coming back and he quit this bitch" What happens when a teacher quits half way? Will they sue him? Are they going to make sure they hire someone who can teach the class something?
Nothing will happen over break. So, any available substitute will be placed to "teach" (more like watch) the kids. Then the school will try to find a qualified teacher, and not too many are available in January for math. SO, then a long term sub will be placed and you will be very lucky if they are qualified. Sound like your daughter will be behind in a year in math, especially if she fails the SOL. You should hire a tutor NOW.

His done teaching - He is done teaching
His not coming back - He is not coming back
Maybe you should attend school with your child and catch up on the English language.
"Will they sue him" -- will who sue whom? FCPS sue the teacher for quitting? You've heard of Lincoln, right? Freed slaves? That was a while ago, I'm pretty sure it made most of the papers.
I feel sorry for your kid. She's not going to learn anything useful at home, it appears, and now no algebra, either.
My 8th grade English teacher quit but not in the middle of the school year. Funny thing was, a student asked him if he liked being a teacher. It ended up being like 2 adults having a conversation together. My teacher said that he didn't find teaching has fulfilling as he thought it would be and that he was going back to law school.
They don't get paid enough and teachers have to be pretty bright and responsible. Why should they teach kids whose parents make more than they do, to make more than they do someday. And, lets quit lying money is king. Self-righteous martyr personalities are faltering- the teaching profession once thrived upon the luxury.
There's a shortage of qualified teachers nationwide, and even in Fairfax County. When you're not paid as well as other professions, worked to the bone and are disrespected, people are gonna get the fuck out.
In answer to your question, when teachers quit in the middle of the year in Virginia, they are blackballed from applying to any other public school in the state. They might find a gig in DC, MD, or at a private school.

FCPS teachers aren't even on par with salaries in Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun and Montgomery.

Seriously, no big loss. When have you ever used Algebra.
Original post seems kind of odd. People leave jobs all the time. What makes a Algebra teacher so special they would not be allowed to quit? Not that common but when you consider the 1000s of teachers it is inevitable that a few of them will have reasons to leave mid-stream.
He was probably one of the few good teachers who gets fed up with the administration telling him what to do. He could not take that any more. The bad teachers never quit. They think they are always right and complain all the time and leave when the bell rings and want more money. He is probably front end manager at Target. There he can put his math skills to better use. Wish him all the best.
some courses (in college) HAD BEEN (in the 80's) something like boot camp or football practice: tightly timed for progress and coverage - even a day (of book material) missed by a student was un-acceptable and would result in noticeable grade penalty for the term
however - the same courses today have gentler books and schedules IN COLLEGE - worldwide
it's a total rip-off to those who schooled hard in the 80's - no access to free libraries (everything $$), grades curved DOWN to prevent "too much success", etc, to have a bunch of foreigners today being spooned and on usa taxpayer loans
Hmmmm, I guess when suddenly you start thinking about the SAT and college applications and so forth suddenly well-qualified and motivated teachers become quite a bit more desirable.
FCPS is going to be in a bit of a bind very soon if not now. Math and science are already critical needs areas, and if you're very good at math there are a whole lot of jobs that pay more than teaching. You can make a good bit of $ tutoring after school, but a very good middle school and high school math teacher is rare indeed.
Keep freezing salaries, FCPS. I'm sure that will fix the problem.
FCPS has been talking about how they started school with so many vacancies
I wrote to the hiring director in HR. She's been 'out' since the start of the year. Coincidence? Nobody is at the wheel!!
I called around..:FCPS has been paying her not to work this entire time. Great use of taxpayer money!
Also was told she treated her employees like dirt. Way to motivate people to hire qualified teachers
