How is Tysons Corner living?
Posted by: RLCMA ()

I'm thinking about moving from DC out to the Tysons Corner area next year, either by the Spring Hill or Tysons Corner metro. How is the area for a single guy who isn't into the bar scene anymore? I'm thinking of moving because DC is so expensive and I would like to reduce my state tax bill as well as be in a less busy area. Is this area growing from a resident standpoint and a good place to live for someone who could care less about the bar scene and would like a little more peace and quiet? I know my metro bill would double since I work in DuPont Circle. Would the commute be bad if I decided to drive to work?

Commute from Tysons to Dupont will be a nightmare.

Tysons a less busy area, um no, it will be worse then NW in another few years.

Metro will probably take you over an hour??

Not sure if Tysons will really offer you anything positive.

It's just a stone's throw away to the Vienna mattress corridor!

Friends of mine just bought at the Ascent and they LOVE it. They moved from downtown McLean - in their 50's. Drawback to Tyson's is the traffic between 7-9:00am and then again between 4-7:30pm. Route 7 is a B--ch during those hours! But there is a lot there -shopping, etc... If you like diversity, there is a lot of that in Tyson's too - increasingly Russian, Arab and Asian.

It would be like buying in Ballston in the early 1980's. Didn't seem like so much at the time, but you knew an awful lot was in the pipeline. People today look back and lament.

Not going to happen.

Transfer at Metro Center, platform waits, walk to Dupont, over an hour.

Best bet may be Anderson Street Condos once they have them finished in about a year or so.

Right on the edge of Tysons, near the McLean Metro stop.

You have a few ways around the gridlock in the middle of Tysons and can easily get to downtown McLean or get over to Arlington or Falls Church pretty quickly.

BUT as mentioned, DIVERSITY! Maybe not much different the Dupont, at least you will not need every restaurant to have Transgender bathrooms.

Awesome argument. Superb reasoning and counterpoint.

Peace and quiet in Tysons? Nope

Tysons = expensive

Commute east (towards DC) = bad

The Metro commute from Tysons = 60+ min

Parking in DC = expensive

You're better off living in Del Ray (Alexandria)

Yes, they do. The Ballston Corridor went from being a dusty wasteland to being the economic and social core of Arlington County. You could have bought there for peanuts in the early going. Now look.

And the same thing will happen at Tysons. New roads and infrastructure will be built. Jobs and people will move in. A vibrant, walkable, green-spaced place to live and work will develop. Prices will move accordingly.

As for West County, its days as a part of the DC area may well be done. Once OPEC decides to let oil prices rise, no one who needs to go into the city will want to live that far out again.

It is actually very nice, except when they had to bring the robots to look at a suspicious package that was left on Tysons One Pl. It's starting to feel a little unsafe since Paris attacks.

Transfer at Farragut.

Stay in DC! We don't need any more liberal assholes in VA - we're being overrun with them as they flee the consequences of their insane voting habits.

Traffic and stupid boutique stores close by. If there is something that you really need you'd drive further. I would get a townhouse or condo close to the beltway or major road in event you want to go closer to town to see some music or something. Tysons is famous for a mall. That is it.

You can't actually "transfer" at Farragut. The two stations are not connected. You can however exit the system at either Farragut North or Farragut West, then go up to the street and walk a couple of city blocks to re-enter the system at the other station. As long as you re-enter within 30 minutes of having exited, the entire trip will be billed as a single fare instead of as two separate fares. The DuPont Circle station is meanwhile about ¾ of a mile north of Farragut West. Simply Walking it would be a quicker and easier option under most circumstances.

With a traditional transfer at Metro Center, train-time from Tysons Corner to DuPont Circle would be 40 minutes.
