Hi I am moving with my family down to Northern Virginia from NYC next spring. We've narrowed down our search to two areas: Williamsburg in North Arlington (near Discovery Elementary) and Franklin Park in McClean. Can anyone give me a sense of the difference in the two areas? I've heard in passing Williamsburg called "liberal" and that Franklin Park "uber wealthy" stay at home moms, etc. None of this is bad, and I know generalizations are just that, but I'd love more opinions/feedback on the two areas.

Our kids would go to public school and people have said that North Arlington is more of a public school community, whereas in McClean people favor private (though I know the public schools are excellent). I also like the relative walkability of the Williamsburg area to schools and the Lee Harrison shops. However, we much prefer the housing stock in Franklin Park - more trees, land, etc. So in short we are torn and I'd love any and all thoughts and experiences from people who live in these areas.

Grew up in Arlington near Marymount on the other side of CC Hills. Live in McLean now.

Went to Taylor, Williamsburg (was the last 9th grade there), Yorktown. Arlington is a smaller school system and has less challenges than Fairfax County Public Schools, but my kids all went to FCPS and it worked out pretty will. Not sure what the near future will bring in FCPS. Arlington spends about double per student than FCPS, but look at the Schools. All the High Schools are over the top.

I have a friend that lives right around the corner from Williamsburg as well.

Any of the locations mentioned are nice. The only thing I would be careful about in Franklin Park are the houses with the major steps or on Valley Wood Road.

Jamestown is also a good Elementary, not sure about Discovery as it just opened in Sept.

Just be careful as Arlington County Board is ultra liberal and they play games with Bond money, spend it on things other than it should be spent on.

Arlington County will be buying as many vacant properties as they can to house Syrian Refugees. Two things Arlington likes, professional yuppies to fleece and being a sanctuary County.

We seriously need to deport some of these ignorant rednecks. Is Oklahoma open on the weekend? Arkansas?

You have hit the nail on the head. Bleeding heart Arlington County Board. The stunts they pull are unbelievable.

The Arlington County board is very far left. But there are a large number of Republicans in the county who just don't have a voice. Arlington isn't universally left wing at all.

Fairfax will be where Arlington is in a few years. That is my prediction. Wasn't all that long ago when the Arlington board was all Republican.

There are no Republicans in Arlington. We have Democrats and (wink, wink) Independents.

Arlington tax rate is under $1 per $100 of assessment - that's 20% less than FFX. Better schools, better commutes, lower taxes.
