A large group of youths descended on a Diesel store in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Tuesday night, rushing into the store and stealing merchandise.
Around 6 p.m. the group of between 25 and 30 teenagers entered the store and stole clothing in what police describe as a flash mob-style robbery, WUSA 9 reports.
No one has been arrested in connection with the robbery, and police did not release a description of the teens. They were last seen running down M Street, home to a popular strip of upscale retail stores in Georgetown.
Retailers along that same strip of stores got in hot water last month after it came to light that workers in the stores were using an app to contact each other and local police. Some in the community say the app is being used to racially profile customers.
The idea came from a D.C. police officer who wanted to give retail workers a direct line of communication to officers patrolling in the vicinity, but was abandoned after cries of racism.
According to an analysis conducted by The Georgetowner, 330 people were mentioned as potential shoplifters in group messages between Georgetown stores and police officers between March 1, 2015 and July 5, 2015. Of those mentions, 236, or nearly three-quarters, were identified as black people.
Last week, a similar group of teens attacked a woman and her baby just blocks away from where the flash mob robbery took place.
The woman had just picked up her child from music lessons and was strapping her in the car when the group of teens ran up on the family and tried to surround their car.
The teens smashed the window with a large rock before the woman was able to pull away and flee to safety.

Several black teenagers approached a woman in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington Monday, shortly after she secured her baby in her car, and smashed out her windows with a large rock.
The incident began around noon when the woman picked her daughter up from music class. She later gave a detailed first person account of what happened on a neighborhood listserv.
She had just strapped her child in the car and was looking for snacks in her diaper bag when she looked up and saw a group of teenagers rushing up on her and trying to surround her car.
According to the woman, she frantically locked and closed the car door and ran to the driver’s side and safely locked herself in the car. The door on the other side of the car was still unlocked, but she was able to hop over into the other seat and lock it as well.
“By some miracle I was able to jump into the other side of the car, again locking it behind me and evade one of the teens as he tried to get into the car,” she wrote.

As the woman tried to pull her car away from the teenagers, one of them jumped on top of the car and smashed a large rock through the car’s sun roof.
A report from Metropolitan Police Commander Melvin Gresham confirmed the story Tuesday night, saying “one of the subjects jumped on the running board of the victim’s vehicle and smashed the window of the vehicle’s sunroof with a large rock.”
Luckily, the woman said, the inside of the sun roof was closed, so none of the shattered glass cut her or her child. She laid on her horn and all to the teens scattered before she drove away with her daughter.
A Washington Post account of the incident claims “police had no descriptions of the teens,” though the first sentence of Gresham’s report, which the Post cites, describes the assailants as “black males.” (RELATED: A Strange New Mugging Trend Is Sweeping Capitol Hill)
Gresham said the event “appears to be an isolated incident,” but the police have still increased the number of patrols in the area.
