Springfield Town Center- Wow Packed
Posted by: Surprise ()

I drove by the Springfield Mall\Town Center and I was surprised that the parking lot was complete filled.

I thought that place had died out?

It is dead other than the restaurants and theater.

Go inside and look in the stores.

I've been there maybe 7-10x since its opened, and that's a bit of an exaggeration. The restaurants are definitely packed and hard to get into. I wouldn't call the mall part "dead," but it's certainly not as heavy as i was expecting it to be. They still need to lease out a good amount of storefronts, but it seems to be happening slowly every time I go there.

The Dave & Busters opening will likely drive more traffic, especially since it will be the only one in the whole region, if i'm not mistaken. I just wonder if it'll bring the kind of traffic they are looking for. The one that used to be in MD could get a tad shady here and there, but I enjoyed it well enough to drive all the way over there from N VA to go.

When you can stand at one end of the mall and easily count the number of people that you can see as far as you can see, and some of them are cleaning, that's what I'd call dead.

When Target has only 2 of about 15 registers open and you'll find maybe two other people in line in front of you, I'd call that dead.

Dicks is deserted. More people working there than there are customers.

JCP is a ghost town. Macy's, a ghost town with a few more caretakers.

The other little stores mostly you'll see the workers standing at the doors talking to each other because they're bored.

I can do that at Tysons and Fair Oaks. Just depends on time of week and day.

Why do you want it fail so badly?

Except that's any time, all the time even when the parking lot is "packed." Whih was the point.

Thanks for playing.

I was unaware it was a game.
Given your limited reading comprehension and spelling ability, I'm really dubious you can count high enough to make a valid point.

The last refuge of the loser... pointing out a typo. Christ. lol

No objective person who goes inside the mall at virtually any time on any day will think that it meets any reasonable definition of 'packed.' The only parts of the mall that ever are busy are the restaurants and theater. That's it. Nothing else. That was the point. Whether they consider 20 people as far as you can see 'dead' or not, they can call for themselves.

Regardless of renovation, which isn't any great change to begin with in this case, it still has the same problem that all but a very few malls in the country do -- people don't go to 'shop at the mall' much these days.

That's not limited to Springfield. Go to Tyson's or even better, Fair Oaks and play "count the whities". You won't get very many.

Vornado Realty bought the mall in 2006 for $36 million. They sold it in 2014 for $465 million.

The residents of Springfield have moved on. Many just shop online now.
