Raccoon dilemma
Posted by: burpgun ()
Date: August 07, 2006 02:12PM

Can't beleive I'm actually using the forum for kind of what it's designed for instead of just talking smack, but am wondering if anyone knows where I can pick up a raccoon-proof garbage can. The raccoon I'm dealing with easily accesses anything available at Home Depot. And no, I'm not going to kill the thing with any of your wonderfully demented machinations...

Don't raccoons come out at night? Why not just put out the garbage the morning of each collection?

I'd get one of those heavy-duty AAA cans with a fixed lid. They're pricey @ about $100, but 1) no racoons or dogs can gain access and 2) are sand weighted so they won't blow down the street in a wind storm. -§

I set my cans out in the morning. Keeps the raccoons and the pesky garage-sale scowering illegal aliens away at night.

I'm thinking that this problem could be solved with a metal trash can and an extension cord...

Don't have a garage and the wife, prissy thing that she is, is kind of against having a one or two day old garbage bag with dirty diapers inside the house... I tried holes with wire hangers through them and the damn thing squeezed through. Then I tried three c-clamps, which worked, but I had to get out there and undue them before the garbage men came in the morning...

So who would have one of these AAA cans? Do these things have wheels on them?

Thanks for the help. And Gravis, I believe your mom is calling from the other room for you to come and apply the lotion...

You could do what my old neighbors used to do: wait until after dark and then just throw your trash in the dumpster behind the office building down the street. They probably hadn't paid for trash collection in the 20+ years they lived there.

quit being a fucken pussy.. just shoot the animal or hoist your trash up into what we call a bear bag. it will keep the trash elevated to keep rodents out of it.

I've frequently thought about throwing a bug-bomb into the dumpster after I've sealed the doors. We have racoons constantly hanging in our trash, and one night one jumped right out on me and freaked the fuck out of me. I was so scared I threw the thing 10 feet on a pizza box.

Anyway, so yeah a bug bomb, gas the little fuckers

You can call up AAA or whoever your trash service is and they'll give you one at a cost. In my neighborhood, American Disposal services sells em for 65 bucks or so, 75 or so gallon wheeled trash containers. But those aren't big enough for me, I like the ones AAA sells, 96 gallon, 100 bucks though I think or 3 bucks a month.

Ive also seen bear proof trashcans with screw on lids.

screw on lid would be no match for a racoon

Thanks for the info KOT - I'm on it. And those yellow screw-on bear-proof ones would beat my raccoon - I don't think he has the arm span to achieve the opposing grip necessary to unscrew one of those bad boys...

The 96-gallon AAA cans have wheels and a fixed lid. You can buy from AAA for about $120 or rent them as part of your trash service for $5 per quarter ($20 / yr.). I'd rent because they'll replace for free if stolen. -§

Wheeled trashcan? Just steal one from any townhouse community. There's always a bunch of slackers who never take their trashcan off the street after trash pickup day. You'd be doing the HOA a favor.

They apparently can't use it to find out what house the trashcan has been assigned to.

Just leave some Wendys burgers and fries out for them so they leave your trash can alone. TAKE BACK THE NIGHT!

The coon problem has gotten worse, but there are many more
varieties of coon roaming the streets now.

Shotguns are effective, and also a fun way to begin the morning!

I have never seen a larger group of UGLIER women in one place than I used to see at TAKE BACK THE NIGHT marches. These were dykes and other girls looked like some guy got the biggest and nastiest most serious YOO-glee stick he could find, lined up all these broads against the wall and WENT TO WORK and WORE OUT that YOU-glee stick.

I still shudder when I think about it.

I found that if you shit in your trash can right on top of the bags, they stay away. They don't like the smell of human shit. Just be careful perching yourself on the can while you do. The first time I did it the can tipped over and I fell
